Xbox One Reputation: No More Cheats or Jerks

But what if the "jerks" report other people as "cheats" just because the huge social experiment that is online gaming has showed that humans can't get along.

Eh, it's pretty easy to automatically spot someone who is reporting an inordinate number of people and just neuter their reporting ability entirely.

People shouldn't have to put up with shitty players ruining the game because they want to blame everyone else for the fact that they suck and can't be bothered to practice. Tell you what, I will stop yelling at people when those who decide they want to play competitive cease being terrible. Of course since the ones typically whining about people yelling at them are the source of the problem in the first place, I am pretty certain the problem will resolve itself.

I'd rather deal with shitty players than abusive players. If you're getting into yelling matches with people just because they're not up your standards, then maybe gaming isn't for you?

What happens when redditors or /b/ conducts digital warfare against someone?

Then the victim can wait a year or two before Microsoft recognizes and admits certain flaws in the system and implements a fix that will come with its own set of problems.

Oh that won't work.

Exactly. No one cares if you're good at something, if you're also a dick.

>We will keep abusive players from playing with other people
>System currently rewards the biggest fuckheads in online gaming http://youtu.be/R7HbCkU_-cM and gives them money

Yeah no, nothing will happen

Yeah... there's a difference between what can simply be competitive trash talking, and screaming like a raging moron just because you can. Unfortunately, people seem to not understand the difference.

Walked in on my 12 year old nephew playing Halo online, saying "I'm going to f#ck you up thew @ss because you're my b1tch now!" while "teabagging" a kill.
I cut his ethernet cable, put up his Xbox for a week, and snapped his headset in half.
He's not received a new cable or headset from me.
Its little shits like that that completely turned me off of Xbox live to begin with.

I've had pretty good luck playing Defiance online with my PC as far as avoiding idiots go.
Did I mention I prefer playing online for free on my PC with other adults over getting razzed by pre-teens for $15 a month on XBL?
Maybe if MS had age brackets XBL would be more interesting to me.

SGA76, good for at least trying to put a stop to that crap.

I don't understand why all this is such a problem, is there no ability to mute individual players on most console games?

I'd rather just not have to hear them at all instead of having some new moron screaming into their mic that interrupts my gameplay because I have to stop to mute someone every 5 minutes.

Exactly. No one cares if you're good at something, if you're also a dick.

Exactly. I've been really turned off lately because of trash talkers. And i'm not talking the normal, jovial fun you do with decent players that are having fun. It happened multiple times with the same kinds of people. Now i'm usually pretty thick skinned but combined with this particular games very annoying bugs and its inability to create a server that is local (i.e. 800ms+ latency) mean's even if you're a good player... you rarely win a kill let a lone a game. But these players are the kind that totally exploit to make themselves appear like god players. OK.. yes i realise 'good' players do these things. But not this kind of exploiting. The kind that makes the playing feild actually not fair. on top of this their play style is all about Kill Death ratio and they quit as soon as they come up against a player that will not let them get their 30 kills to 3 death matches. And of course as you predict.. because you're the guy spoiling their fun (while you're just trying to have some fun after a days work) they start the verbal abuse with things that may as well be "so you carry around a gun with ammo now..." and its just pathetic.

There really does need to be as system that gives REAL penalties for these jack-asses. i don't think any kind of (seemingly) automated system will work. As most know it can be used against honest people. Just like now... i get bad rep because i'm a decent player that can hold my own. I never trash talk people and i'm always polite to others unless they ask me to treat them otherwise. yet i look at my rep and apparently i'm a trash talker that acts unsportingly because these guys that get their exploiting spoiled don't like it and bad rep me. I never quit games where i'm getting it handed to me ( i enjoy the challenge and i also like to test the other players to see if its just a lucky round or two for them or an unlucky session for myself. usually i end up coming out on top or at the very least holding my own against them.

So its good to see MS doing something. I most likely won't get an XBone anyway just for the record as their direction doesnt seem to be one i wish to partake in. But hopefully its a successful system.

My intitial thoughts:

"Thought Police, Unite!"

Any system will be manipulated to screw people.

Is there a way to flag people as Prudes?

You expect this system to work? They claimed the same with Xbox360.

And lets not forget the actual game devs making little to no attempt to stop griefers, cheaters, hackers. Talk to me when they can figure out that a guy with Prestige 1000 and 124892327328 kills within the first week of release, isn't legit, then we can talk.

This will be yet another system that is half-assed, only kept active as long as the marketing campaign allows it. After that it'll be an excuse to ban anyone who isn't kid-friendly (despite M-rated games).

It's called Ignore/Mute people. If you don't like how someone acts, then use those functions or stay the hell offline. I spend my entire day playing the whole PC game at work. I don't give a flying shit if your delicate ears (eyes) get offended at my language. Don't like it? Either stop being so horribad at the game and making excuses or go play angry birds on your phone.

You can ignore/mute modders and rage quitters, nullifying their game ruining effects? Oh wait you can't. Just like how people can't resist authoritatively asserting their naive opinions on forums. haha

You see, this mechanic want really designed as an alternative mute/kick function.

I don't have a problem with them trying to clean it up but I would like to see a "Non-child zone/Everything goes zone" I can ignore peeps and I like calling a D-bag a D-bag.

Reading through this makes me glad I don't online game with others. I have to deal with jerks in the real world. Why would I want to deal with jerks in something like a game? A game people! I feel bad for those commenting on how they are serious competitive gamers and how they hate dealing with people that suck at the game. That perspective is foreign to me, and frankly kind of pathetic in the grand scheme of things...

On GFWL/XBLIVE I have a 60% or higher negative rating. Not because I talk trash or send hate mail, but because people get salty when they lose.

Shit-talkers have never bothered me. I actually get kinda tickled over the fact that something I've done in-game has bothered someone so much.

That and I know all the idiots hurling threats and racial slurs over the internet likely don't have the balls to walk alone to the corner store.

If the system works well, it should boost the already huge Xbox Live subscription base.

I agree there would be cases that sneak through the cracks, but say a lot of crap players give good players bad rep points, perhaps those losers will get grouped together to. The more people use the system maybe it will find better matchups. Until it goes live there really is no telling how well the system will work.

Let me just say this... CHROMEHOUNDS!

Anyone remember this game on 360? I always had a 5 start rep in XBL. But when that game came out, it became customary for opposing teams to give you bad rep if they lost. This exponentially increased negative rep for everyone that played, fairly or not.

The only negative rep I ever received on live has been from that game, when defeating the enemy team. So, yes this can and will definitely get abused.

You should play NS2 on the pc then. I never run into trolls in that game and everyone works together as a team. It all depends on the game really, look at League of Legends, worst community ever.

To be fair, much of the abuse people receive over Xbox Live is through the messaging system after the game has ended.

I'd say that for one in every five matches of EA NHL I win online, I get a voice message or a text message telling me how cheap I am, how lucky I got, or how much of a try-hard I am.

I used to get a lot of trash talkers during games as well, but I've long since learned to just keep my headset off when I'm playing a game that doesn't involve me talking to teammates.

Does mute / block not work for this as well?

Microsoft can identify orchestrated reporting and nullify the reporter's votes to mitigate exploiting the system. I'd also imagine you can only report people you've played with recently. To orchestrate an attack they'd have to put in a fair amount of effort and probably find it difficult to spam report.

Between the two obvious counter methods I think it'll make it quite difficult to abuse it.

However I am of the PC master race and only play online with people I know so I care not twice.

I very much doubt MS can outsmart determined internet rage.

I simply want ability to block(not avoid) a person for good. If you are and a$$hole and obviously cheating then I don't want to see you again.

Yea this solution seems way better to me.

I've never understood these rep systems. Just let me block people i never want to play with again.

I actually like the premise and would welcome a system that would discourage trolls with minimum false negatives but I doubt this will be up to snuff

1 I hope he patents his idea before someone steals it.

2 would be awesome if you could actually play it on your phone and it would display over blue tooth.

3 Increase the size just a little so you have more columns, same number as a real board. That board is too narrow.

Wrong thread oh well cant edit.

And again... just how much time do you want to spend muting/blocking people?

I'd rather not deal with them at all in the first place.

Well if you end up on the receiving end of false reputation trashes you might change your mind when you cannot get into any good servers. How about another option to only allow people who are on your friends list to contact you, it just seems like this issue has been long since dealt with in the PC gaming world and console players are set to make the same mistakes as the AOL warn fiasco for years to come till they finally figure out that this is life just like bad drivers etc...

If you spend a great deal of time blocking or muting people, it might not be the people that are the jerks.

I always just create a party when I'm on regardless if any friends are on

I'd just be a giant douche and report everyone. If I could be bothered to 1. Care about xbox 2. Care about xbox.

Why is it so difficult for you guys to grasp that people don't want to put up with these people to begin with? It doesn't matter if it takes 5 seconds to block the screaming 10 year old. Who wants to put up with that crap at all?

Muting one annoying person (or more), versus that one annoying person and an army of his most annoying "friends" voting/rating your ass into the stone age. Take your pick, personally prefer running my own server or hanging out in a server with people I get along with that kick people we don't, screw this rep shit (rep is something for you to do with NPC factions, no real ppl).

I don't get it. Are you really running into a large amount of assholes and idiots in the games you play? Outside on CoD on xbox360, I've never run into more than a couple people that truly annoyed me.

Yes actually, and I only game online on the pc and have for a long time now.
