Micheal Dunn, Program Manager on Xbox Live explains the new reputation system for the Xbox One. Looks like a bunch of people might be stuck playing with themselves. :D

With the new community-powered reputation model for Xbox One, we want to help you avoid the players you don’t want to play with. If you don’t want to play with cheats or jerks, you shouldn’t have to. Our new reputation model helps expose people that aren’t fun to be around and creates real consequences for trouble-makers that harass our good players.

But what if the "jerks" report other people as "cheats" just because the huge social experiment that is online gaming has showed that humans can't get along.

Wow, I cant see how this will be abused at all....

It's called Ignore/Mute people. If you don't like how someone acts, then use those functions or stay the hell offline. I spend my entire day playing the whole PC game at work. I don't give a flying shit if your delicate ears (eyes) get offended at my language. Don't like it? Either stop being so horribad at the game and making excuses or go play angry birds on your phone.

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say it will work like follows (guessing here).

The rep votes are weighted against your own reputation. So a highly liked player down-voting someone weighs more than a player who has a poor rating.

Those who are frequent shoppers of the XboxLive store will get major rep bonus points.

You sound like one of those Battlefield nerd ragers. People shouldn't have to put up with other abusive players.

It is like every internet forum anywhere that has a "reputation" system...pretty soon it becomes a contest to see who can have the most negative points.

Ahh..., but haven't you heard?
Those delicate flowers with easily offended sensibilities have the RIGHT to keep you off of the playground, Mr. Filthy-Mouth!

Momma couldn't be bothered to monitor where her little sweet-pea goes online, but once he/she is there, she'll go into Defcon 1 mode to make sure her little sugar-dumpling doesn't have to interact with anyone who's mean.

Another step towards the death of the time-honored Trash Talk Tradition.

I simply want ability to block(not avoid) a person for good. If you are and a$$hole and obviously cheating then I don't want to see you again.

Do they not see this as like a 99% likelihood for online bullying? Online gaming is srs biznuts. Some people get shot and killed over a game. Better not talk so much shit about someone elses' mom online.

For the young teen with IDDQD delusional syndrome: your beast-like personality online ain't gonna stand up against a guy wielding a weapon that can track you down to your very home.

Problem is most of the players are kiddies. Funny when Im playing and some ones mom tell them Shut that **** off and got to bed. Kid like but mom one more round.lol:D

I don't think that is quite it but I can tell you I myself being almost 40 not a sensitive kid I can't stand all the overtly foul yelling that goes on. If we were play a game in person there is no way most of these people would behave this way. Have fun but don't be a dick.

People shouldn't have to put up with shitty players ruining the game because they want to blame everyone else for the fact that they suck and can't be bothered to practice. Tell you what, I will stop yelling at people when those who decide they want to play competitive cease being terrible. Of course since the ones typically whining about people yelling at them are the source of the problem in the first place, I am pretty certain the problem will resolve itself.

Years ago when I still bothered with xbox live because my friends were all playing L4D/L4D2 I actually heard some little mickey mouse voice shit say "But I wanted the dino nuggets"

Apparently mom got the nuggets wrong.

My crystal ball tells me they will get law suits for blasphemy of their online character and unfair game play. If I was to play a online game with this ( which I never will ) I hate consoles but if I did ya I would report everyone for being a jerk :)

Ahh, I see. You play a video game "competitively". You don't play it for fun.

What they need to fix is stop exposing your ip address to DDos'er in the lobby and have dedicated servers.

God, this got bad with MW2, there were so many walk through on how to DDOS individual players if they bugged you on Youtube. The same worked on PCs since the player who hosted the game got all the incoming connections, if you had a really got round and the player that was hosting knew how to find your IP address you were screwed. Initially this started as a how to kick cheaters, since VAC wasn't doing its job, but like all things with good intentions it was quickly abused (mind you, this method was illegal to begin with).

Yet not competitive enough to have a strong enough back to carry shit teammates. Or at least have good enough solo play to have a competitive personal score regardless of the situation.

Who gets mad in a PUG match? lol. Not worth it. Quit blaming your team mates and play smarter. Account for them being shitty and adjust accordingly.

And the truly top competitive teams never get angry. It's not constructive or conducive to creating victories.

I wish they'd ban the jackasses that think they need to keep their mic open while playing their shitty music.

Yeah, the constant stream of profanities gets old real quick too. Trash talk is fine, but come on....you don't have to say fuck every other word.

Quoted for truth. Normal players just don't say anything. Posers/wanna-be greats rage and cuss constantly at their team. Actual greats kick ass and let their actions show they're good, rather than thumping their chest like a child.

Guild or clan-wise, same deal pretty much ;), except for strategy discussion of course on the top end. I know from experience as far as MMO's go, having been in the top guilds of each I've played pretty much.

Quoted for truth on both counts. Saying shit/fuck every other word doesn't make you look like anything but a fool who can't communicate with people in any regular fashion.

Hopefully they'll group the assholes together with matchmaking. I've never played DOTA 2 but I've read about how it rates players and how the assholes get stuck playing with other assholes until their behavior improves.

I'd even call it an artform. Subtlety is key. But the mountain dew suckers and hot pocket eaters don't understand subtlety.

It's not even the stereotypical basement dwelling manchildren that are the most irritating.

Nothing like getting home from work, loading a game, and 30 seconds into it whether I was doing good or poorly...

"FUCK YOU, YOU CHINESE N***** PIECE OF SHIT, I HOPE YOUR GAY MOTHER CHOKES ON AN IRISH DICK"

Coming from the mouth of an 8 year old screamed into my headset or through my speakers. Hell, it might not even be directed towards me.

But I can just mute them? Ok. Muted.

5 minutes later the next pre-pubescent moron is shouting random crap into the mic. So you mute them. Then the cycle repeats, over and over and over... So I guess I should just have to put up with that, right? I mean, that's got to be why I spend my money on games, to hear children improperly use a bunch of profanities that they don't even understand well enough to form sentences with.

I don't understand why all this is such a problem, is there no ability to mute individual players on most console games?

Planetside 2 has a pretty good mute/ignore system that usually works until the next update. Their voice chat is almost constantly broken but at least they have the right idea.

Best thing is to have dedicated servers with admins that are 25 years or older and intelligent. I play with some great guys and our only rule is to have fun, be cool and never rage. If someone is obviously cheating or being a douche, we just report it and move to another server or area depending on the game.

Walked in on my 12 year old nephew playing Halo online, saying "I'm going to f#ck you up thew @ss because you're my b1tch now!" while "teabagging" a kill.
I cut his ethernet cable, put up his Xbox for a week, and snapped his headset in half.
He's not received a new cable or headset from me.
Its little shits like that that completely turned me off of Xbox live to begin with.

I've had pretty good luck playing Defiance online with my PC as far as avoiding idiots go.
Did I mention I prefer playing online for free on my PC with other adults over getting razzed by pre-teens for $15 a month on XBL?
Maybe if MS had age brackets XBL would be more interesting to me.

lol you must have a nice family member if they let you break their kids stuff in half.

One of the best Microsoft ideas I've heard in a while, hopefully these features make their way to Steam.

Nope, I was raising him because his mom was in jail and dad was too busy out doing coke and getting hammered every night to spend any time with him.
I raised him since he was 3 till his 13th birthday and I just couldn't take it anymore.
"Mom and Dad" kept getting their court ordered visitations, and they'd tell him if he misbehaved enough they'd get him back, so he made my life Hell, including threatening to bring weapons to school and killing other kids.
So his grandmother decided best thing for him was uproot his thankless ass and move him to Canada waaaay out of the reach of the influence of mommy (who's back in jail for her 8th time) and daddy (who is back on probation), both who just lost their visitation rights again.
I feel bad for the kid, I love him, but I just couldn't take dealing with him and his parents anymore. I hope he learns how good he had it and he figures out how to straighten up. God knows 5 different shrinks didn't help.

Same bullshit system they said was already on the 360. I really doubt they would be willing to ruin ANY paying customers experience , even if they are a total asshole. Another "system" behind the scenes that we don't know if its even working.

Hype confirmed.

Right on, man, keep fighting the good fight.

As for the subject at hand, this is nothing but a good thing. Time for people to grow up and treat others with respect online. And for the people with complaints, just about every one of them was addressed in TFA if you had actually read it. But who can be bothered to actually be educated on a subject matter? Just spout off with your nonsense.

What happens when redditors or /b/ conducts digital warfare against someone?

Microsoft can identify orchestrated reporting and nullify the reporter's votes to mitigate exploiting the system. I'd also imagine you can only report people you've played with recently. To orchestrate an attack they'd have to put in a fair amount of effort and probably find it difficult to spam report.

Between the two obvious counter methods I think it'll make it quite difficult to abuse it.

However I am of the PC master race and only play online with people I know so I care not twice.
