Hey all, I'm looking for some game suggestions for my GF. I recently put together a pretty budget computer for her with an i5-750 (OC'd to 3.6GHz) and a 6870 (stock).

She really, really likes the Sims and she enjoyed playing Portal when she gave it a shot. She doesn't have too much experience with FPS games (read: using WASD and mouse to move). Anything suggestions for something light and easy to start her off on?

plants vs zombies?

if you're looking to reel her into some fps action, then I'd start with Chex quest. It was a great game that came in a cereal box. Basically, it looks like doom, but you have really cool tazer looking weapons and kill booger-like creatures called flemoids.

then bump her up to Chex quest II. And soon, she'll be into MW or CoD.

She loves the puzzle challenge of Portal, so probably similar puzzle games. SP for the most part, but if there is MP she'd probably play with me (something like Portal 2 MP).

I'll definitely look at Spore, Overlord, and PvZ. Not sure about Chex Quest :p. MW and CoD might not be her genre, although she likes Halo.

She also seemed really interested in Diablo 3 and it's play style (she remembers her brother playing Diablo 2 when she was little) so I'll be letting her make a character on my account to see if she likes it. I'll probably pick up Torchlight 2 if she does.

She's tried Amnesia before but she was too freaked out to finish playing :p even Slender scares her, so scary games (even puzzle ones like Amnesia) might not work for her

Shadowrun Returns just came out. It's not too long or difficult, and it's a story driven game. Another story driven game, is The Walking Dead episodes by Telltale Games. They also did the modern Sam and Max series, which is another one she might like.

An obvious answer is Portal 2 (even has co-op, so you can play together/help her out). Awesome game.

If she seems to like tower defense games, Plants Vs. Zombies is easy to get into, as is Defense Grid (although hard to master).

If she has access to an Xbox controller, Bastion is nice-looking, story-based action RPG. Not too complicated with the weapons/skills.

For FPS, Team Fortress 2 is relatively easy to get into and not much pressure if you're looking for a multiplayer FPS. You can be her medic, make sure she plays something easy like heavy, pyro, or soldier (not that they don't have high skill caps). You could also do co-op Borderlands 1/2 and take your time.

Terraria could also be fun for both of you co-op, building and adventuring together.

This would be an easier question to answer if you said what genres she might be interested, or ones she's completely not interested in. Good luck though, finding a partner who shares the same interests can be awesome.

Oh, and if you're looking for an MMO, Guild Wars 2 is a great game that's very easy to get into and play casually, and the world is absolutely beautiful to explore at whatever pace you want. Will show what PC gaming is really capable of, world-wise.

spore/portal/portal 2/old school games like fallout maybe/magicka/

Torchlight may be a good game to get her to try. Pretty easy to learn with tons of rewards, whether it be constant items or her general improvement in the game.

Have you tried the game of sex?

On a less serious note, that's a pretty solid rig. How about some indie love, Limbo?

Trine might be worth a try, if she liked platform games.

Otherwise, maybe some puzzle games, like the Curse of Monkey Island?

minecraft... well, not unless you want to see her again ;)

Best puzzle games i have played are the myst series. the original myst is a bit basic but the sequals have some hardcore puzzles.
and they are really easy for people that don't have much pc experience.

We have, and it's a game we both enjoy, but you know, there's a limit to the number of times you can play in one sitting :p

For 250 bucks I can't complain :D Limbo. Now that is a game I will definitely look into.

I'll definitely look into Trine and Curse of Monkey Island! Thanks :)

Haha she is the creative/artistic type so I'd be interested to see what she'd create.

Dark Souls.

Ha... I don't think either of us have the coordination and patients for that game. :D

The Myst series is quite good from what I've heard. I'll be looking into that one :)

If she does like puzzle games, Crazy Machines 2.

I might have my copy laying around still! I'll install it and let her have a whirl.

Here's a good one, not out yet, but fairly far along in development. I got my wife into the beta, and she couldn't be happier.

Mass Effect series.
Portal 2 co-op.
L4D2 co-op. Just beware that lots of children play this game and you might have to deal with mic users. Sadly the AI, even on the easy setting is rather brain dead so you might need 1-2 more friends.

She might like Mass Effect since it's very story driven, she just might need to work up to the FPS parts :p

Definitely Portal 2 and possibly L4D2, a bunch of my friends play so she could join.

Recommended the game to someone I knew and she really enjoyed it. Ended up buying the other two games and DLC. And on the lower difficulties the shooting sections are really rather easy if that is a concern. I liked Payday: The Heist, which is similar to L4D. Though that is a bit more complicated but nothing too hard.

I will also mention Alan Wake & American Nightmare. It is not too hard, though the story is nice and while there is shooting it is not too complicated. If you want a copy of that for cheap I believe I have an unused copy.

I would recommend games that can be played co-op that do not require many people. Or load up a shooter you enjoy, host a server, and play 1v1.

I will definitely be looking into the Mass Effect series then. I already own 2 so she can try that one.

I just purchased Payday the afternoon actually :D I'm going to try it out tomorrow and let her try it out as well.

I actually have Alan Wake from the steam summer sale!

If you're looking for something story driven how about The Walking Dead?

I think those two would be a good start. Sims is very popular for them isn't it? :p

IN my experience I have found a lot of my female friends to enjoy adventure games. Mainly because they rely more on puzzle solving, good storylines, strong characters, and usually well in-depth female characters that aren't just window dressing.

I highly recommend the following:

Syberia I and II - One of my personal favorite adventure series. Follows the story of Kate Walker. Excellent storyline, good characters, beautiful art style, thanks to Benot Sokal (A well known Belgian artist)

The Longest Journey and it's sequel, Dreamfall - Regarded as one of the best adventure games of all time, they have a new one coming out thanks to kickstarter..

Gabriel Knight series - This one is a little older but it's an all time classic. Follows the story of Gabriel Knight, a cajun detective. A good mystery adventure with supernatural elements. The series is also unique because each game was a step up in the medium. THe first one is a classic 2d point and click, the second one was an FMV based adventure, and the third one was a full 3d adenture. All of them are good.

Gray Matter - A great mystery/love story adventure. It's from Jane Jensen (She made the Gabriel Knight series). Has some supernatural elements to it as well. If she likes romantic stories along with a little supernatural things she might like it.

Still Life - I loved this game. It's set in the modern times and follows a polie detective as she's trying to track down a serial killer. It can be a bit graphic but it's got a strong storyline and character. IF your gf likes CSI/crime shoes she'll likely enjoy this.

The Walking Dead - Probably the best "new" adventure game to come out in a while. It got GOTY from many websites for a good reason. Great storyline, some great choices/consequences for you to make. If she likes the TV show or comics, or zombies in general, she'll like this.

I would also like to mention Sanitarium. However I must say, this game is CREEPY as hell, it's a horror themed adventure game with a great story, it's a very surreal creepy game, but well worth playing. Regarded as one of the best horror adventure games.

Also of mention is the excellent The Whsipered World, a newer adventure game from Daedlic with a cartoon like quality (Think old Disney movies or old Lucasarts adventure games). They also recently released Night of the Rabbit, which got favorable reviews and has a similar style. I'd recommend either of these too.

You can find most of these games on either steam or gog for fairly cheap. If you just want to give her one to try I'd recommend Syberia or The Longest journey, then if she finds out she likes those kinds of games go from there.

Hide the quarter. Also pick up the DLC : "Make the weasel spit."

The wife and I went through Borderlands together. If you’re liked Portal you’re already off to a better start than me. It was an exercise in patience for me at the start since it was her first FPS ever. Yet it paid off when she was sniping my kills near the end. :p
