Hot Deals at Microcenter. 25% off open box!

wanna pick up a pair for a brother?

There was only two, and that was looking online. Who knows if they are orange stickered. Thought it was ALL open box items at the time I reserved the stuff.

OP needs to update the first post to say this is going to be extremely YMMV. The video cards technically aren't eligible for the extra 25% off, so it's likely going to be manager discretion. Only items with an orange tag are eligible. In my store, that means a bunch of junk in a bin.

Any price online already represents the 25% off. Its 25% off the price of new, not normal open box price. At least that's what Mayfield Heights Ohio store said.

Rofl someone in Rockville was already watching this thread, cuz that eVGA 680 is now out of stock. Noooooes :/

Not showing anything on the web page for me. They don't have anything good at the Denver store anyway though :( I wish they had the 2 7970s I returned as open box :)

Just checked out the website and they're running 25% off all open box and clearance items.

I called the store and confirmed that its for an open box items including electronics, computers, and parts so I quickly placed an in store pick up for a couple things.

Picking up a GTX680 MSI twin forzerIII for $277 after tax and a fully loaded retina MBP (2.7ghz, 16gb ram, 768gb ssd) for $1850 after tax.

There's a bunch of other stuff, just check out the open box section on the website and place an order for in store pick p so they old if for you.

Supposed to run July 1-14.

edit:

I guess this should be put as YMMV. I tried to pick up the macbook, but they wouldnt apply the discount because they said it has to be a "red tag" item, even though when I called TWICE this morning to make sure it would apply to the macbook so I didnt waste my time driving out there. This was at the store in Yonkers, NY. Waste of 2 hours, gas, and toll money.

Then I went to my local MC (Paterson, NJ) to pick up the GTX680, and they applied the discount no problem, and there was no red tag on the item.

SHOULDVE CALLED THE CORPORATE OFFICE.

There were 2 GTX780 for $602 each before 25 percent discount at my store. I decided to reserve EVGAGTX660 supercloked for $280 with tax.

Microcenter near me has a reference MSI 7970 for 275, what are the odds of getting the extra 25% off? Just go in and pick it up and mention the sale?

What? Why? You can buy a GTX 760 new for $250 which is faster than a 760, which you're taking an open box one for $280 of. I don't get it.... and $450 + tax for a GTX 780 would have been a great deal.

Welp, didn't get the 25% off, but still a 7970 with 2 year warranty for 300 bucks ain't bad.

and it's a reference board so my waterblock works.

Heh, I got my 7970 at the Denver store about 2 hours ago :)

Ditto for Denver

Thanks for the info. Was about to head over there today or tomorrow. Sad that they didn't apply the discount. :(

So the DTC Microcenter is not applying the 25% off to just anything then?

They have a big ass sign that says ORANGE TAGS 25% OFF and then a completely different area marked clearance.

I asked at the register and they wouldn't. :(

Good luck at whoever is going to the Yonkers store, the Manager knows about it and isn't applying it to nothing apparently. If someone does get it though, feel free to post it here.

That's stupid. I was looking at these MSI 670s, would have run about $180 with the 25% off. Still not a bad price at $240, but I'm not gonna get them for that.

Ya, the "clearance" price on some of the stuff is silly. They had a bunch of 7950s in the open box bin that were 259. I got the 7970 for 279, but then again it was the only reference card in the bunch. The prices didn't really make a lot of sense. I also wonder why the only things on clearance were open box. It's like they sit on their open box items for such a sale or shuffle them off to stores that will be able to clear them out. Microcenter is odd. I almost wonder how they stay in business, but then again I go there often enough to see the huge lines of dumbasses buying overpriced gear.

They have their problems, but they are better than any other brick and mortar store in the Denver area. Though that's not saying much when their competition is basically Bestbuy.

$452 780gtx before tax?...hmmm

Right, but you have to think these are super rare. All three local MCs for me only have new 780's...but yeah, those are no-brainers to get if you see em listed. For now, the $280 range 680's are probably the main draw, assuming you have a compliant manager and obviously stock of these open-box items.

^^It's $602 open box and then applying the 25% off results in ~$452 price before tax :p

That's not how it works. The listed online price is already included the 25% off if it qualifies for it (has an orange sticker).

Their wording is terrible. It should read 25% off retail, not save 25%.

My store had 660Tis for $175, thought it was $131 after the 25% off. Called in, and $175 was already with the 25% off. They said the price online is what you pay.

Now the website has only certain qualifying items listed when you click on the deal link.

Considering I've already taken advantage of this deal ($280 GTX 680), I think I do know what I'm talking about. It's YMMV on whether you get a manager that will play ball, that's all.

I've bought all my recent CPU's from MC they always seem to have the best price. Other deals are more spotty but great when they have what you want.

My wife has just come back from a Yonkers store with a GTX680SC. She paid $274. It looks brand new with all the accessories (poster included). The manager was kind enough to offer the discount and said the card was a yellow item not orange.

Mayfield Heights store is just retarded. Called the Columbus store, and they said 25% off online price if it has the orange tag.

Its 40min to Mayfield Heights for me, and over 2 hours to Columbus, but Im going to start going to Columbus I think.

Should anyone get this to work at the Fairfax, VA or Rockville, MD stores, please let me know. I was turned down a few days ago at Fairfax, but perhaps another manager will be different.

If it takes $40 worth of gas and takes 5 hours of your time is it still a hot deal?

omg I need to just move to where these stores are at.. I would die and go to heaven

You would be better off living in a state with no state tax such Florida or Nevada. I still think Microcenter is great.

Guess they are all liars. Got to Columbus, and they said there was no one in that store by the name Donald (who I spoke to on the phone). They said he must have been in a central call center and lied to get me in the store. Open box items are already priced at the 25% off if they are a qualifying item.

Two managers were standing there. At first they acted like they didn't know what the 25% deal was even though its on all the fliers. Then they said it doesn't work on regular open box stuff, only open box "discontinued".

Yeah it's YMMV.

That said, since you actually made some calls you should have been CRYSTAL clear that the call center's cannot speak for local manager policy. I forgot who I spoke to earlier this week, but he told me about the distinction (between yellow and orange tag). He also emphasized how most local MCs don't answer the phone anymore (lmao) so it's all from a call center. In my mind, that meant that pretty much anything he told me would have to be further confirmed locally.

So when I drove to my MC, I came in with the mindset that I would walk if they didn't apply the 25% on open box. Fortunately, I got a good draw of managers and BYOPC rep (who would back the discount, if needed). Just luck of the draw anything really.

I was explained that the 25% discount would only be applied to items that were discontinued. I had asked if that meant any of the 600 series Nvidia and he said a lot of them were still being distributed so most of them did not apply for the discount. Being impulsive I still grabbed a 660 ti for $200 after tax to SLI and I am quite satisfied with the results. Guess it was still a good ploy to get me into the store.
