We are struggling with Apple 10.8 + OSX server addon + latest Deploystudio.

We want to create master images for a Mac or PC (on ESXi) and store them on our ZFS NFS storage to
restore them over Ethernet (mainly university pool usage) either via netboot or boot via USB stick on newer Macs.

If someone has it working with a step by step howto, please share (pdf with screenshots would be nice.)
The docs at Deploystudio are not really helpful (mostly refer to 10.5)

I can offer a howto for the PC side (boot via PXE over Deploystudio and save/restore images with Clonezille)

Here is a writeup I did a while back on how to image bootcamped macs This method is working on OSX 10.7 with the server pack installed.

If you have any questions Just let me know I will try to answer them.

Edit: I don't think this is exactly what your asking but it still might help. If its not let me know and I will try to help

That is perfect for the OP, that is way the school system that I work for did it. However with multicast we had some of them time out depending on how your network bandwidth is.

Your network needs to be configured for Multicast or at least be able to handle the load with multicast.

If you do not use multicast you can boot all and hold N, but it will only do like 1 or 2 at a time waiting till it images before the next systems boot.

Thank you, at first nor netboot or USB boot of Deploystudio worked.

It seems now that netboot on OSX 10.8.4 server is buggy (results in kernel panic)
and USB boot from 8 GB USB sticks only works with newest Macs.
Using older 4 GB sticks on our 24" iMacs solved the problem.
