Tomb Raider reboot will make PC gamers "very, very happy"

Well, then you guys need to be more vocal on the Square forums :D Only mentioned this cause some guys were complaining about it here earlier.

I don't mind the lens flares. I had an issue with the water and splash effects, because sometimes they would be so much you couldn't see very well or they would last too long. I'm glad to be able to turn this off now.

finished replaying the game on 'Hard' and got to 100% completion...there were a few items that were hard to find and I needed some online walkthroughs before I could get them...the Fast Travel campfires don't even list the Cliffside Bunker level which is what confused me in the end...fantastic game!

Agreed I'm about 5 hours in and this game has surpassed my expectations. Fantastic graphics too.. I loaded up Crysis 3 last night to see how it would run on my rig and the first thing I thought was: Tomb Raider has better graphics than this.

Better graphically than Crysis 3? No...but it does look nice.

To me Crysis 3 has this "flatness" about it, there's no sense of depth. I felt the same way about Crysis 2 so maybe the Crytek engine is just not for my eyes. I thought both Tomb Raider and Bioshock Infinite looked better.

Perhaps...though Crysis 3 unarguably has higher-resolution textures and whatnot than either of those games.

Finished with 100% as well, fantastic game. Crystal Dynamics really figured out the right balance of interactive storytelling, quick time events and normal gameplay. I'd go as far saying its the best game I played in years. I would like a hardcore difficulty mode together with new game+ or something like that as future update.

I feel the same about the Crysis games, visual quality is top notch from a technical aspect but overall the graphics didn't appeal me as much as TR and other games.

I would love a replay with all the abilities intact from last play through and higher difficulty.

One hit kill would be a bit extreme, there were some instances in the game you couldn't get through without taking some damage (chain gun sequences and the likes), but increased damage, yes please.

Fun game. I made an extended run through the game this week. Very polished and it kept me going hour after hour. If nothing else, the consoles have made PC game ports a lot more polished in recent years.

IMO, the only major issues were the cover system and the weird difficulty spikes. With cover, it seems like sometimes she uses it and sometimes not. I never did get a very good feel for it, although I did love how most cover was destroyable.
With the difficulty, it was very uneven. I'd go for several hours only fighting 2-3 guys at a time only to have 4-5 spots in the game where you got assaulted by an army of like 20 guys. I wish they would've spread them out a little more.

I got 100%, but I'll admit I had to cheat to find the last "Firestarter" location. Calling that one in a crack in the ceiling hidden is the understatement of the year.

I played with 360 controller and always switched to mouse for the moments I needed precision aiming....just liked the general movements more using a controller. SP is probably ok with a controller all the way, MP was impossible for me without mouse aiming.

I played through only using on the the 360 controller. It wasn't bad at all. 75% of the time it's a platformer. There are 4-5 shootouts that might be easier with a mouse, but you won't miss it most of the time.

What a terrible person lara croft is, someone takes the time and man power to get that island to a liveable state and along come's lara at the last minute, kills everyone and takes the credit for the discovery, tomb maker would be a more appropriate name for this game.

I thoroughly enjoyed Tomb Raider, my first excursion into any Tomb Raider game. My only real criticism would be the replay value for the single player game is pretty light. Play it once and that about wraps it up. It is a great concept and a lot of fun the first time through, and I went back through the environments item hunting and even found some areas I missed the first time through. But I think the game lacks a real draw that compels one to start out on a second adventure. Maybe in a couple of months I'll boot it up again.

I can see this happening when I finish the game as well. Doesn't seem like it has much replay value, however the single play value is [so far] more than worth it to me. This really is a great, well polished single player game. I see no reason what-so-ever on why it should not be the top selling game on Steam for a while now.

Unless you have a real big problem against third person view, this is a must have game for any PC gamer.

This coming from a guy who really, really dislikes third person view. I stopped playing Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction after less than 1 hour of play because I just couldn't stand the third person perspective. I also play Skyrim almost strictly in first person view. ;)

Trying to run at 1600p with 680 SLI, anything worth turning off/on for smooth gameplay?

I played at 1440p on a single Titan with everything maxed and FXAA, was very smooth most of the time. I think the only options really making a significant difference are TressFX and the AA settings. SSAA is nice but at 2560x1440 FXAA was just fine for me.

Have everything maxed including TressFX, but with FXAA.

WIth the 680 SLI I get really low FPS sometimes 15's or so.

Shadows to medium or so, does seem to improve framerates, but they still drop heavily sometimes.

I'll give it a try on my 60" TV at 1080p first, to see how that fares without sacrifying quality.

Never did finish this game...I ended up turning off TressFX, the performance hits were massive sometimes and totally not worth it for what it was. I liked it a lot but not for the shit performance.

If the frames are dropping during fights it's most likely a CPU-bottleneck issue, not GPU.

Most notably during cutscenes.

Anyway seems to be very playable at 1080p with everything maxed except shadows medium, and FXAA.

Was afraid it would look bad at 1080p on the giant screen, but looks very nice after all. World is very detailed.

If you're having FPS issues - drop TressFX. It drops my FPS from 60 to 40'ish in the benchmark, and that doesn't even factor the action you'd see in normal gameplay. It's compounded with shadows and other effects, too.
While clever, I honestly don't even think it looks "natural" and is more of a nice idea than one I think is worthwhile right now.

Yeah, it's definitely TressFX. Basically you get massive slowdown whenever the camera gets near Lara's face/head. Which is why you're seeing a lot of slowdown in cutscenes, because it focuses on her at close-range a lot of the time.

After turning it off I was glad to see that her "normal" hair still has physics effects, so really TressFX is only good if you've gotta have all those individual strands flopping around.

I'm on my 2nd run through. The first time I played with max settings, including TressFX, at 1080p. It was stunning. This time I'm playing in eyefinity with TressFX turned off and no AA. I think it's even better this time around, eyefinity is awesome. :D

I bought this on a recommendation from a friend during this weekends Steam deal ($28) and I have to say, it is easily one of the best PC games I've played in years. It really is a fantastic overall experience.

Finished it.

Great graphics, but rather average game and story. Also a bit too "phantasy" with all the collapsing bridges and what not.

I just started playing it on my 660ti and it runs great. Awesome graphics, I'm having playable framerate even with TressFX on and everything maxxed out. No SSAA though

hey i started replaying this game, its great! im at that part that Lara shot the deer and she is all "ooh poor dear, im sorry im sorry.." lol. its crazy because you know that later on she'll be all "BLOOD! BLOOD!!! OH IS SO PRETTY!!" into it :D

Great game. Turn off tesselation and tressfx. The first causes crashes and the second just bogs down the game. Otherwise fantastic visuals and gameplay. A+ title that really needs more publicity. Really flows along smoothly.
