Haswell and Z87 Bundles Now On Sale at Microcenter

Prices on the mobos are also a little jacked up, eg. $215 for the MSI Z87-GD65 vs ~$200 on NewEgg.
Still save ~$60 for a 4770K + Z87-GD65 combo compared to newEgg (when 8.25% sales tax is factored in), plus you get it in your hands right NOW :D

Microcenter didn't have the Gigabyte G1 Sniper 5...So I ordered one on Amazon. They actually don't have any of the top tier motherboards from Gigabyte or Asus on hand.

This deal will be off and on (mostly on) throughout the end of the product cycle if their trend continues. Going all the way back to when I bought my Q6600 on release.

Nice that they have the MSI Z87-GD65, but the other two mobos on my shortlist (Gigabyte Z87-UD5H, Asrock Extreme6) aren't stocked :(

I don't see anyone with a top tier Asus board yet. Thanks for saving me the trip. :)

Don't forget to pick up the 4770K while it's on sale (although it'll be on sale later as well but you never know...). That's all I did, went in, picked up at 4770K, paid and walked out.

Quick question -- I bought a 3570K and ASUS Z77 board for $240 AR about a week ago, still unopened. It's for a gaming build for a friend (GTX 770 at 1080p). Future-proofing is moderate-high priority, but I don't see any real benefits to Haswell in that respect. I'd have the 3570K pegged to ~1V and 4 GHz.

Is it worth the extra $70 to go for 4670K/Z87-A combo? Maybe the cheap MSI board for just $30 more? (I don't think it'll ever have more than 1 GPU since it's a one monitor setup)

Gas price/time is irrelevant.

Thanks in advance

If it was me ..yeah just go back and exchange. $70 to remove doubt and possible buyer's remorse = emphatic yes for me.

Waiting on better combos in the next couple months myself. Maybe even a killer 3770k deal to clear inventory.

Thanks for the response but any tangible benefits for the given application to warrant the ~30% increase in price?

About 10% OCed performance increase plus newer platform (more USB3 and SATA3).
That's pretty much it.

I'm going to Fry's now, but does anybody know if a SoCal Fry's will price match Micro Center? There's a Micro Center in Orange County, but I live in LA and the closest Fry's is a bicycle ride away, while Micro Center is a drive... I'll probably try for a 3770k bundle with a motherboard since 4770k offers no advantages, especially when factoring in price...

Get an SSD instead. You'll see a way bigger difference in every day usage with that vs. a spinning platter drive.

Frys had a strange mix of Z87 motherboards. Asus Z87 deluxe and sabretooth, but not Pro or Expert.

Fry's price match is a joke. I was there for an hour just so the could verify a tigerdirect price and I don't think they will match microcenter because they don't match things with limits ie. microcenter's limit one per household.

I'll just wait till some [H]ard overclockers get done with their benchmarks and sell their chips. Now those are real deals.

What is the motherboard to get? I'm going to be making the mc run tomorrow and I don't know what board to pick.

In case anyone's wondering, not all the motherboards available at MC are listed on their site,
eg. Gigabyte UD3H, UD5H, Asrock Extreme6. Best bet is to go in store and poke around.

<-- Just got home with 2x 4770K + 2x MSI Z87-GD65 :D

What was the cost of that combo before tax?

SSD already in the build (I have an idea of how to get the most performance for my money--just a bit uncertain on Haswell given the application and availability of MC deals).

Decided to keep the 3570K combo.

Thanks for the responses guys.

I picked up a 4770K and Z87X-UD4H, though they tried to charge $470 for the bundle instead of the $430 listed on their website. Not sure if that's an advertising mistake on their part (since the list price for the board is $230, and with the advertised bundle it would be $150, so $80 off instead of $40). In any case, I showed them the website on my phone and they gave me the advertised price, but just something to watch out for.
