I was going to wait for IB-E but I'm tired of waiting. So. If you were going to pick up any motherboard for s1150 which one would you pick? I like the Maximus VI or whatever it's going to be called. I saw I think an Asus with a front control panel too. Anyone else's thoughts about who they're taking the plunge with would be sweet.

First picking up the Gigabyte z87x OC then depending on some real world reviews of the EVGA z87 classified mobo I may pick it up also.

Asus Maximus, MSI X Power, or EVGA Classy...but I hear EVGA mobos suck now so not sure about the last one.

I haven't heard good things about EVGA mobos lately either. I'm learning towards the ASUS Maximus VI Hero.

I bought he z77 ftw when it first came out and it was awful. Not the motherboard itself but the bios. There was constant issues, but they have been working with Vince to redo the bios for at least some of the boards from the ground up.

It will be really interesting to see whether Asrock have switched to proper PCB's for this generation. With the heat Haswell is putting out, I don't want a bendy motherboard messing up the mating surface.

If not, I'll probably go with Asus, ASUS Z87-A or ASUS Z87-Pro depending on prices.

I hope motherboard reviews come up soon.

It will depend on if Z87 will take the ram I bought for my X79 rig GSkill ares 4x8 (10-10-10) or not. ASUS Extreme or Hero for me if I do.

Depends if Microcenter will carry the Gigabyte Sniper G1 or not, if not then I'll most likely get an Asus Hero or Extreme.

I just want something with at least 3 16x (physical) PCIe slots, so after I upgrade to haswell, i'll have the door open to add a 3rd or even a 4th GTX680.

Looking at the Gigabyte Z87X-UD5H, ASUS Z87-Pro, or the ASUS ROG Maximus VI Hero. Kind of basing my choices around the prices of equivalent Z77 motherboards and different rumors and such I've read. The last motherboard I bought was made by aBit, so I've been out of the game for a little bit.

The ASUS ROG Maximus VI Extreme grabbed my interest but the Gigabyte G1.Sniper 5 option to switch op-amps is neat too. I wonder when the MSI xpower will be revealed. I can't wait to move my fx8150 into an older computer

Asrock xtreme3

don't have use for all the bells and whistles. I just want a decent oc/er board.

Formula VI provided they don't fuck up the PCI-E layout. All I want is is 2 well spaced cards and a slot for my STX where it won't get in the way of said cards.

I need to see what's actually in stock and then decide based on the first couple of full reviews.

Do we know what mobo Kyle is reviewing on Monday?

I'll probably go with the Maximus VI Hero--seems like it's got just the right set of features that I'm looking for.

Ended up ordering a G1 Sniper 5 off Amazon because Microcenter was lacking in the top tier motherboards dept.

I don't need tons of features and I'm not worried about getting the absolute most mostest super highest overclock EVAR, so Z87-UD3H was ordered with my chip. Figure anything I get is going to be a night and day improvement over my current system. I'm guessing the biggest improvements I'm going to see is the upgrade to a Samsung 840 Pro at the same time and letting the GTX 670 run on the pci-e 3.0 standard instead of 1.0.

Can I ask you what made you decide to get the G1 Sniper 5 instead of the Maximus VI Extreme (which I still can't find anywhere)?
I'm trying to decide between the two mobos and it's driving me nuts!

A lot of things really. Color scheme (green), feature set is the best I've seen ever in a motherboard. Bigfoot E2200 LAN and if that doesn't tickle your fancy, they have Intel's NIC as well, Creative's Soundcore 3D chipset built right in with replaceable omps, PLX chip in case you ever decide to go with multiple graphic cards, the best UEFI bios I've ever seen. I hear a lot great things when it comes to Gigabyte so I decided I'm going with them this round.

Oh man, I'm so tempted to buy it. The only thing that makes me hesitate are the added goodies the Maximus comes with like the 802.11ac wireless module that I'll need since my PC will be far from the apartment's router and I doubt my roomates would appreciate a huge chord through the appt. Also, the fact that the Maximus draws less power and overclocks better has me slightly hesitating.

I'm sold on this I just thought the front plate for the Asus Maximus VI Extreme was cool even though I have a fan controller and multi monitor. I still wanna see one! I might go down to Fry's right now and pick up the Gigabyte and 4770k though

Why aren't they being sold anywhere anyways? It seems like that line is the only line that didn't come out last night. Are they waiting until tomorrow?

Do we really need to drop $300-400 on an Asus this time around for a haswell that doesnt OC to double its rated speed? If you told me I could get 5.5 ghz out of the chip but only with the amazing ASUS HERO then yeah, I'd be all over it.

It seems like the Gigabyte Z87X-OC, while providing a slightly lower maximum CPU voltage, still provides more than enough to fry your chip overclocking on water and that the ASUS would only be necessary when going with an extreme cooling solution, not to mention its $200, has a killer looking BIOS, and buttons on the mobo for upping the clocks live (no, I dont need one more thing sitting out on my desk with a wire no matter how cool it looks, I'm looking at you maximus extreme)

Gigabyte burned me in the past, my i7 930 that I'm running on now has a terrible coil whine unless I turn off several of the idle state features in the bios, meaning ive been wasting power for 3 years now, but it has been running like a champ at 4.1ghz, so I'm willing to give them one more chance to get a great overclocking board for only $200

It would be one of two options - ASRock Z87 Extreme4 (direct descendant of the Z77 Extreme4) or the ASUS Z87-A (which is actually $10 less). In both cases, it's bang-for-buck. Also, in both cases, I'll be buying at MicroCenter (Fairfax, VA).

Either the EVGA Z87 Stinger ITX or the ASUS ROG ITX that should be announced on Tuesday.

I agree this build is meant to clean up the crap on my desk. Although I don't think it will help. I am setting up a computer room because I have outgrown just my bedroom.:( Especially cause I'm using a cosmos 2 .

Noticed there was no Formula announced and the Extreme will be stupidly overpriced, settled on the Asus Z87 Deluxe instead.

The Maximus Hero is the Formula.

Hmmm didn't strike me as a replacement, less PCI-E slots than the Formula V. In any case it doesn't really matter, the Deluxe looks just fine and dandy. Hopefully my 4770K won't be a dud.

All 4 of my previous 4 PC's were Asus but now I'm leaning toward MSI and their MPower or the GD65 Gaming. I really like the Bigfoot lan, dual bios, msata, and color schemes. To me the hero doesn't offer what the GD65 does. I kind of like the bluetooth and wireless that the MPower offers over the Gaming. Might be moving and wireless might be the only option so the extra 20 bucks seems like a good deal!
I really wish there was a greater selection of Thunderbolt as it seems right now to be DOA and a real missed opportunity.

The Gigabyte GA-Z87-OC looks really good and its not too heavily priced as well, not to mention the colour scheme is great and the board looks great.

I'm thinking of an Asus Z87 Pro.

Anything wrong about this?

I'm just looking for good solid OC options and reliability down the line. I guess the fact that [H] article had good impressions of the new Asus Z87 line helped. I'm sort of hoping the extra 4 motherboard phases will keep my board alive longer than 4-5 years.

I was looking at the Asus Z87 Pro but the wireless module it comes with is only N speed and when compared to the Asrock Z87 Extreme6/ac it's a hard sell. $10 more for Asrock and you get a wireless ac module, two intel nics, and the hdmi in switching capabilities.

The one thing I do like better on the Asus boards is the extra USB3 controller which is why i'm still kicking around ideas myself.
