Geforce 770 & 780 coming in May

Erm, nope, you never said it was an educated guess. You said that it would be less than $599, in fact you said for definite that the highest price would be $599 and anyone claiming it was going to be $699 was only spreading Fud. People were guessing their prices just as much as you were guessing your price, your guess had no more evidence than theirs.

In fact, they were probably more right as there are 780's for sale at $800 but you won't get any for $599 :D

That is a complete rewrite of the conversation on your part.... And people saying 800 were off by three times of my estimate of 600. 150 vs 50. They also continually insisted their numbers were hard fact when no one could know yet. Big difference there. I am surely wasting my time replying here but hell, I may as well try...

I think some Titan owners were secretly hoping that the GTX 780 would be 800-850$ just to justify their purchase in their mind, meanwhile another poster mentioned (i'm sure you know of who I speak) that the used FS/T forum here has Titans selling for MSRP @ 1000$. (hilarious). I just saw one the other day for 850$.....there goes that theory huh?

There are a good amount of ticked off titan owners I'm sure. However, they should have known in the first place that their card would probably be worth 600-700 in a span of one years time.

I think the 780 is a far better buy, but I don't agree with that at all. Titan has a niche - it differentiates itself from the GTX 780 by being tailored for multi monitor use; Titan will be able to flex it's muscle in surround while the GTX 780 may be VRAM limited, which causes the user to disable anti aliasing or use FXAA in place of MSAA. This isn't an issue with more VRAM.

Multi monitor is precisely what the Titan was designed for, and anyone who purchased the Titan for something such as 1080p clearly made a poor decision (IMHO). But if you use a Titan what it was designed for, it is easily a better card than the 780.

Speaks the truth.

a 770 GTX heavily overclocked MIGHT catch a stock 780 GTX.

But a 780 GTX overclock will easily go past a Titan in performance...and for $350 less ($300 in GoldenTigers case).

Just made a purchase on gtx780. Can't wait to OC. Upgrading from a HD 5870.

Yep, the Titans would stretch their legs at surround resolutions with high AA, otherwise you're really MUCH better off just buying 780s at this point given the small performance gap and the huge price gap.

The top titans in the valley thread around the same speeds pull an average (for slots #3-16 on the chart) of 81fps. My OC'd 780 on the ACX cooler without having pushed things to the complete limits yet is pulling this... a difference of 7.8% from the average top-end oc'ing Titan:

Mind you I'm also on only a 4.4ghz 2600K and 1333mhz 16GB DDR3  .

Nice score, GT. I wonder what the heavily OC'ed GTX 780s get when paired with 3930/60K/X CPUs? CPU speed definitely DOES make a difference in 3dmark, valley and heaven, so i'm very curious about this. While the Titan does hold a 2-3 fps advantage over the GTX 780 in that test, all of those submissions over at OCN were performed on SB-E CPUs. From what I can tell, the scores with similar CPUs are much closer. CPU type would make an appreciable difference when paired with a 780. :)

I get my cards today! Sadly, I don't have a SB-E to test with, just a mere 3770k (which is overclocked, of course)

Thanks! I'm very curious about that myself, so far haven't seen any results with the better CPUs and mem around, and yeah, I figured the CPU probably accounted for a lot of that difference considering even at Ultra (except 2x AA instead of 4x) in BF3 multi I am being CPU limited at times (90-95% GPU usage for small stretches, instead of being pegged at 98-99 the whole match). Add in my slow RAM and I probably could gain 5-10% just by getting quicker mem (2133-2400) and even an Ivy Bridge or Haswell CPU... easily. I agree and have seen that Valley/Heaven/3dmark are noticeably affected by CPU oc.

I gotta tell you, holding 100+ FPS on a 120hz 2560x1440 display consistently (~90% of the match durations probably) is pretty damn fun on a single card.

you always do this crap. you were wrong just as much as they were wrong. And I didn't rewrite anything

Old news. It is preorder price gouging, and even then obviously placeholder prices as the versions are priced identically to the penny for superclock and reference. These vendors always have far higher than msrp pricing prelaunch. It will be 599 usd, or less, no questions asked.

Wrong. And nowhere did you say this was in your opinion or anything, you stated this as fact.

The people who said $800 were basing their prices off a placeholder that appeared in a shop for $712 or something like that, and that was early days. And even back then they were saying it would be $699 or $799, you were saying that it was going to be $499-$549. So at that stage you were just as far out as them.

There was only two people in the thread that insisted their prices were hard fact, you and ragecase. He said $699, and that quote above was your reply to it. You insisted your price was right because of placeholders you saw in china and europe he insisted his price was right because of the ones he saw. You were both wrong. Jason-42 and That's_Corporate were the only two to guess right.

Eh, most games aren't CPU limited anyway. I have an i920 at 3.5Ghz with my 5850, and I'm sure the 770 will be a huge improvement since I'm running 1440p.

That was stated in response to people saying gems like "More huge gk110 rape is coming. who even believed there would be a card not much slower than titan for half the price." And yes, I was basing my guess off of the $712 (which I posted, by the way, on OCN long before it showed here) also which was indeed as I said a price-gouged preorder, not a "low preorder price" as some tried to run away with to up their guesses when that basically never is lower than it comes out at.

As I said, I was basing my "hunch" as I called it in one post off of european preorder prices of 599 (I said "it will probably be" here: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1039895969&postcount=722) (I called it a hunch here: http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1039883613&postcount=445). It's not really even about who "called it" so much as how they arrived at their guess, and how they stated their guess as fact, consistently and rudely. Most were pulling it out of a hat to be polite, while I was basing it off of pricing history of the last several nVidia releases. Also, simply saying "it will be X" after saying "it's my hunch" pretty much directly implies it's my guess.

But hey, it's convenient to ignore the conversation when you want to snag one thing out of context :p . Speaking of "you always do this crap"... ;). Finally, being off by $50 is not "just as wrong as they were" for saying 800, that's 50 vs. 150 off-base.

Contrast statements like the bolded one above to mine:

I'm sure everyone is hoping for 499, but doesn't expect it. Personally my hunch is 499-549, but I wouldn't be shocked at 599.

By the way, NDA lift @ 9am Eastern, on May 23rd (date already well-known).

Clear difference there.

lol you are still wrong. Don't you get it, wrong just as far as out as those guys. If you call them trolls, then you are as much of a troll. And I made reference to both of the posts you mentioned in my previous post. So nothing was out of context, in fact, it's you who are talking crap, as usual.

*brofist* :D

...and don't bother trying to get GoldenTiger to admit any fault or bias. It's the attention that he's after, nothing more. So don't fuel that fire :)

Nice performance. My VApor X HD7950 over clocked to 1300/1500 scores about 65% of that.

GTX 780 is the kind of performance I would like to get into but its way over my budget.

I've ordered a reference gtx 780 today. How much performance penalty should I expect considering I am still on a PCI express 2.0 x58 platform (i7 920 @ 4.3ghz)?
I am gaming at 1920x1080 resolution.
I am asking this because the cpu upgrade is probably still 3-4 months away.

I'm about to sell my 7970 (1265core/1700mem) and upgrade to GTX 780 SLI. I'm gaming on a Dell Ultrasharp 30" @ 1600p, so I'm looking forward to the performance increase SLI gives me. I'm still running X58 with an i7-970 @ 4.4ghz so I shouldn't have a problem pushing the 780's in SLI.

You shouldn't have any issues with running a single GTX 780 on the X58 platform.

I won an auction yesterday, two Gigabyte GTX670 Super OC versions for $600 for both with 2 years warranty left, is this a good deal and will it fare decently against the upcoming 770?

Looks like the GTX 770 is in full swing on Newegg starting at $399, considering these are GTX 680 with higher clocks, not bad. EVGA Classified and ACX cooler style is starting at $419 and there is an cheaper ACX, but its out of stock.

EDIT: for the lazy http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...269 600451260&IsNodeId=1&name=GeForce GTX 770

The GTX770 are $450-500 here. GTX780 will near $600.

So I think I'll keep the 2 GTX670's for now.
