Has anyone ever attempted this? at my current home I only can get DSL and its 40 for 1Mbps. Its killing me game wise. Im thinking of getting a mifi for gaming purposes but Im not sure about the lag.

Advice and Experiences?

Probably looking at a little over 100ms ping times and depending on where you live, you might only see between .25/1.5Mb/s

Will the 5GB data cap hurt you?

Damn thats not much different from what I am already getting. I dont see the point. I was planning on trying virgin mobile as they have ulimited 4g data with the first 10gb at high speed. But after the reviews on that I think I'll just update my hard ware and see where that takes me.

Verizon 4g actually gives me good gaming performance the few times I've used it. Under 50ms ping back to my own servers was quite impressive I thought.

On 3G out here almost 10 miles from a tower when the network isn't overloaded I was getting 90-110ms playing BF3.

you have to be REALLY picky on the servers.

It works, but it's not optimal that's for sure.

So you're that asshole that teleports all over my screen as I'm shooting them. ;)

That's about the time I quit

I haven't been able to play now for about 2 months, my 3G just isn't reliable.

It would be used for more than just gaming, Ill be running my laptop from it as well. Im just looking for something solid with decent speeds really.

You can get an antenna, and amp too to help.

That's what I've done for 5 years now.

If you can get 4G you are set, we don't have 4G here yet.

.

I didnt know you could do that for a mifi. Could you elaborate more? I live in a area that is a mixed bag when it comes to cell/amfm/tv signals.

The Mifi just needs to have an antenna port. Then you purchase a small adapter that is compatible with that Mifi and connects it to the larger cable that runs to the antenna. I have an outdoor high gain parabolic grid antenna along with a Verizon 4G LTE amp which gets me perfect signal 5.5 miles from the Verizon tower.

If you're in Verizon coverage area I would suggest you purchase a Mifi setup through a company called Millenicom. You can get a 20GB 3G/4G hotspot plan for $69.99/month and the Mifi they include has an antenna port. You can also just take the 4G SIM card out of the Mifi and put it into a 4G LTE USB modem which is what I use along with my own router setup.

How are the speeds? I would do Verizon but they don't seem to offer unlimited plans which is what I need. I hear sprint is the next fastest and tmobile is last. What I really need is something faster than less than 1Mbps.

Have you tried torrenting on it? I do love my tv shows.

This is my current speed:

YEP!

We have an air card with verizon and millinicom, and have seen Millincoms go from Unlimited to 5GB to 10gb to 20gb over the years. I`m on my original "owned" 3G USB modem from Millenicom still and what's funny is it stays connected better than my 4G LTE card from Verizon (set to run only 3G).

I plan to swap to the 3G/4G MiFi setup from Millenicom in the future, and completely ditch my Verizon Air Card now that we've got the T1 coming.

I still need 1 air card to travel with. However, now that the Shared plan on Verizon includes free hot spot on the phone it's less of an issue for day-to-day and more so used mainly when I`m in a hotel for days on end when I need to talk on the phone AND be online.

3Gstore.com is where I've gotten my router, amp, antenna, cabling, etc... their support can answer questions and guide you too.

Most video games do not come any where near using 1Mb/s.

Here are some numbers:

Please post a screenshot of your results from this website so that we know your upload speed and your latency as well:

From your posts, im getting the impression that you are torrenting at the same time as your are playing video games. If that is the case, you should either pause your torrents during that time, or purchase a router that supports QOS Traffic shaping (preferrably one with plenty of ram and a fast cpu). Such a router can put high priority in your gaming packets and less priority on your torrent packets.

If you get a wireless 4g solution it probably will give you more bandwidth (check that your area gets LTE first!). However, it's not guaranteed to give you the same latency as an ADSL connection (important for gaming). Also, if you run your torrent while gaming anyways, it might not improve your situation much.

Here's another look at 4g LTE gaming, im actually kind of impressed.

Well I share the same house as my mother in law and shes always streaming religious videos. I usually torrent at work or while asleep and turn it off when gaming. The main problem is while gaming using my ps3 or computer it takes quite some time to even find a match-up and I get the laggy side of the match. I do also work from home with people across the country and my current situation just doesn't cut it for this application.

And while reading your seperate article about gaming through 4g I did notice the date was 2 years ago. In really hoping that things have improved. Also Ill be using a mifi instead of a cell phone. Its really too bad the author hasnt returned to update the article or make an entirely new one. And he also never answered the questions his readers asked at the bottom.

I have a Verizon mifi in rural Illinois. I get 4G speeds between 4-15Mb up and down. I play FPS's over this with no problem at all (mainly TF2). My pings range from 50 - 100ms. Obviously, you need to try for servers close to you but I have many to choose from.

I do quite allot of remote work as well, VPN's, RDP, etc.

I have a 12GB package, I don't even use 1GB playing games.

I did spend about $300 on a directional antennae, cables and pole to help get a stronger signal from my house. I called WPS and they told me what to get.

HTH.

Alright guys. You've got me ready to go mifi all up in this bitch. Ill start with the mifi and build up from there. Cell phones and the like all seem to get different amounts of signal in the same places and if it stays low Ill definitely get a antenna. I just need to figure out if I should go sprint or if I should go Verizon. The pirate in me likes the 35$ unlimited 4g. But the Business man in me likes Verizon cause they are much more dependable.
