Larian has put up a Kickstarter for their upcoming Divinity RPG project. I've had my eye on this for quite a while and t looks like it will be a fantastic game.

•Divinity:Original Sin is an Isometric cRPG.
• You can play in single player mode but also in cooperative multiplayer mode
•It's a real epic CRPG so even in multiplayer, you're engaging in much more than just combat and item fever. A nifty cooperative dialog system, a highly reactive world, a deep character development system and plenty of choice and consequence situations see to that.
•You can create your own RPG adventures with our powerful RPG editor and share or play them with friends
•Combat is very tactical. It is turn-based and features things like skill and spell combos, attacks of opportunity, action points and much more.
• Exploration is greatly rewarded.
•You can develop your character(s) to fit your playstyle using our classless skill and stats system.
•There are countless item interactions and item combinations waiting to be discovered.
•No Divinity game is complete without music composed by the brilliant Kirill Pokrovsky.

What's really interesting is how the co-op will work. In dialogue with NPC's, players can use skill checks to further their goals, as is customary, but in co-op each player can have their own input in how a conversation or situation plays out. Sometimes you can even overrule your team member if you have the proper attributes or higher skill.

You will be able to interact with every object in the game, much like the older Ultima games. This includes a crafting element that will allow you to put together objects in unlikely combinations, sometimes making bizarre items.

This will be prequel to the other Divinity games.

In for $25, loved the Dragon Knight saga. Beautiful blend of humor and gameplay.

In for $100. It looks like it has a lot of potential. Hope it delivers.

I think it will deliver in spades. Plus, a fully featured game editor with an extremely powerful scripting language. We haven't seen that in a multiplayer RPG since NWN.

I haven't played any of the other Divinity games (have considered buying some though), but this does seem to have tons of potential. If it comes close to NWN / Baldur's Gate, it will be money well spent.

It's intended to be more of an Ultima style game. Sandbox, non-linear, reactive and interactive. The combat seems much more like ToEE (which is good), while the isometric graphical style leans more towards BG/NWN.

Sweet, I'll keep my eye on this at the very least. Looks like designing a henchman is dirt cheap.

Enjoyed the heck out of Divinity 2, pledged @ the $150 level. I want to name a pet after my cat

If it's like Divine Divinity, I'm all for it. I need to retry Divinity 2 again & see if I can get more out of it.

I thought I remember seeing this on KS a long time ago .. or was it just first shown middle of last year?

No KS, but it's been featured on some gaming sites several times. Their CEO has had more than a few "Quote of the Day" quality things to say. You can tell it's a dev studio that likes playing games, not just doing it for a job.

Came here to post this and found this topic already created, can't believe I missed it until today :D

This game is looking great and looks like it'll be a blast for co op play.

Now if I could just convince a friend to play it and not the usual CoD and other fps games most of them play.

It does look interesting... but man, I'm already in for Sui Generis and Grim Dawn. I don't know if I really want to get into another top down rpg. Though, did they say it was turn base?

That intimidation thing seems cool, but I think it'll end up kind of gimmicky. That said, I think I've heard about this project a while ago, because I remember that multiplayer decision making thing before.

Yes turn based.

You probably have heard of it before because they have been in development on it for a while now and it's been previewed and shown off from time to time.

it's meant to be finished this year, November'ish (so you don't have to wait 1-2+ years for it like most other kickstarter games.

I've always liked the Larian humor and it looks like this will have it in spades.

Holy shit that looks awesome!!

Love kickstarter and all these badass games getting funding!

12-year-olds on xbox wouldn't have the patience for this kinda game.

Couldn't see the ETA for the finished game on the KS page. Anyone know when they expect it to be complete? I'll put my coin in if it has a reasonable release schedule :)

EDIT: Nevermind.. Saw November 2013 on their website.
EDIT 2: Oh, and under all of the pledge amounts haha

During the AMA on Reddit David gave the following answer:

"What follows is my guess. Alpha: this summer. Beta and preorder: September/October."

I was hoping they'd make their 1 million stretch goal. Day/night/weather cycles and schools of magic being affected by them sounded neat.

Oh, that would be awesome. Sadly I don't think we will hit the 1 million mark, maybe more like ~925k max.

Edit: that would be including their paypal funding.

$50,000 and one hour to go. They are a quality studio with a proven track record. I'd like to see them hit all their goals.

They fell just shy of the final goal, but IIRC Paypal donations stay open until May 10. They need ~$20k to hit those NPC schedules.

The game was already in pre-alpha state, we just funded additional development. Larian went full independent so they needed to raise funds themselves.

The Twitchtv closing party is hilarious. These guys... these guys are good guys.

Been asleep on my gaming fast. I should have funded this and the planescape torment.

Beat Planescape before you give anyone money for a second

I've played it twice more in the last year (making 5(?) playthroughs so far). Worth it every time.

...

IMO, Original Sin is a new Ultima 7 without the terrible combat.

I'm not sure I would equate it to Ultima 7 - I think it is perhaps closer to TOEE ?

By Larian's own admission it has many similarities to Ultima, at least the sandbox and world interaction parts. The ToEE'ish influence can only be seen in the combat.

I feel this is a good balance because Ultima 7 had terrible combat / ToEE had terrible world interaction. I'm willing to bet this is Ultima7+ToEE, but better than both.
