Verizon Replacement Policy...

I've got a bricked Verizon Droid (still powers on, can get into bootloader, flashed the latest (official) ROM, flashes fine, but upon normal boot always freezes on the "DROID" logo --- phone has never been root'd, water indicator is white) and would like to replace it.

I know with Sprint, all I have to do is walk in with an account, tell them "I bought this phone for use on your service, it's bricked, I want a replacement" and they charge me $45 and order me a replacement.

Does this work with Verizon and if so, whats the cost? I personally have no interest in switching (middle of Sprint contract, got unlimited sprint LTE @ ~20mbps, $50/month) but if I can get a $15 prepaid account (or even a 1-month $50-$75 account) and them replace the phone for almost nothing, it might be worth it.

Verizon uses standard warranty procedures. If you've had the phone less then a year, or have a extended warranty or total equipment coverage and there is no damage, they'll replace it with a certified like new replacement of the same model or similar if your model is no longer made. This does not cost anything, but you'll need to mail the defective phone back.

If not, unfortunately they don't have a out of pocket replacement program. They'll check and see if you're eligible for upgrade or look at a certified pre owned device (will run over $100) but does not use your upgrade or extend a contract, and you get a 1 year warranty on it.

If I sign up for a plan with Total Equipment coverage, will it cover this phone since I had it before I signed up? (and if so, will that require me to continue the service for X months after?) if so, what's the approximate cost? (like I said, if it's gonna end up costing me $100 or more, it's not worth it since the phone, working, is only worth $125 on eBay)

I was with VZW for 2 years back when Sprint and T-mo had no coverage here (only options were AT&T or VZW). They ripped me a new one and charged me out the ass and my only option was to pay it or have no cell service (AT&T had worse coverage and same prices). I have no love for them...

Not to mention I'd be paying likely 1 month of service (which I'd barely use) @ $60-$75, and they get their phones heavily discounted from the OEM, so in the end they'd be losing next to nothing.

Not at all. He wasn't asking from an immoral point of view. He was simply saying, "Hey, my phones doesn't work. Sprint used to handle warranty service in this way, how does Verizon handle it?"

Trying to get over on Verizon would be, "Hey, how can I scam the system?" He states that he never rooted and flashed an official ROM (not a custom one). Phones can (and do) brick this way in rare circumstances. Now, is there a chance that he flashed a pre-release? Yes. Should we assume this is the case when he didn't state it as such? Absolutely not.

Someone asking about a carrier's warranty service is not equal to trying to get over on that carrier. That's why Bman was called out for trolling.
