Aliens: Colonial Marines Performance and IQ Review - Today we evaluate Aliens: Colonial Marines, which uses the Unreal 3 engine with an updated renderer. Since it is a DX9 game, we expect to see faster performance on less expensive video cards like the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Ti and AMD Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition. We'll determine if SEGA is taking a step forward or backwards with the Alien series.

It sounds like that the whole project should have been scrapped. That would have been preferable to that POS.

Did somebody on the H staff misbehave and, thus, get tasked with testing this game? ;) Kidding aside, we do appreciate an objective look, even if we're pretty sure what the outcome will be.

Surprised you guys reviewed this...it was overall pretty terrible, and to date we still have ZERO statement from Gearbox or Randy Pitchford as to what happened and what they plan to do about it.

EDIT: What is really sad, is that the 2010 AvP game was better in virtually every way (graphics included), and even it didn't get amazing reviews (underrated IMO, but admittedly it was flawed in several ways). A TWO YEAR OLD GAME.

While this game is not as bad as people make it out to be...you know how the herd mentality goes... but it does look and play like a game from 2008. Pc Gamers want games what push the hardware...you can play this game with a Voodoo2 Sli set up.

As someone that played through Duke Nukem forever saying it was mediocre, I could not finish this game. I can forgive quite a bit but the AI and mission design makes it unplayable.

Duke Nukem forever only had 1 horribly designed mission which was the underwater mission.

It's so sad because this game had great potential. I picked it up on pre-order (yeah I know I'm a dummy) and couldn't believe my eyes when I first loaded the game. There are games 3-4 years old that look better and PLAY better than this one. It's a big fat TURD sandwich.

The game is bad, but I'll be honest and say I've played far worse. My biggest disappointment is how hyped I was to play it and it was given such a low priority. When competing with BL2, it really had no chance. AvP3 was a step backwards in several ways to AvP2, and in some ways this game is better than AvP3 oddly enough.

Guess I have to go back to NS2 to get a real Aliens vs Marines type of game and even THAT game lost out to NS1 in some areas.

I hate turd sandwiches

i will say this.. it will be very tough for Gearbox to get me to buy another game they are involved in.... very very tough

I think what happened was they or some studio started working on this game 5 or 6 years ago then canned it. Gearbox was digging through the archives, found this and decided to release it.

Duke Nukem Forever wasn't great, but it was fun for a cheap pick up to see what it was about. Also, Gearbox more or less just did the finalization rather than make it from scratch. From everything I've heard, I'm prematurely disappointed by the game. I know actually playing it might change, but I'm not holding my breath. When it drops to $5 in the next six months, I'll consider it. Maybe I'll have played through my back catalogue of games not even started.

I've been around here a long time, and I think that's the first time I've seen the [H] fail award, lol. So glad I didn't pre-order this, I was so close back when it was $40. Gearbox needs to realize that just because BL was great, you can't release crap like this without hurting all of your brands. Anything gearbox releases has gone from a solid, "gotta have it, day on pre-order", to an "I'll wait and see", for me.

1. Not surprised by the score.
2. Surprised it was reviewed.

Duke Nukem was a better quality game. Atleast that had boobs.

Trust me, it didn't take long to do the review, nor did we spend a lot of time on this trash. We wanted to get the word out there about this to you all to warn everyone.

Or is it a "giant douche"

/Can you make the reference? :p

It was doomed from the get go. Sad. But Gearbox mislead us all , the E3 demo's and countless previews used a totally different build of the game that looked MUCH better and had sequences removed that sold us on the game to begin with.

Jimquisition did a video on it actually comparing the two and just how much Gearbox utterly contrived the entire thing. Unless its Borderlands (which is a different group internally inside Gearbox) I will not be buying anymore Gearbox games. I wasted my money on Aliens : Colonial Marines , learned my lesson.

I wasn't expecting [H] to waste their time reviewing the A:CM since there is already so much negative publicity from reviewers and gamers alike. Comparing the video to the actual game makes me believe GearBox did a bait and switch or someone blew the pooch and put the wrong graphics engine build into the game. Whatever the case I won't be getting A:CM unless it is in the $5 bargain bin.

So is Gearbox pumping out this garbage so they can have the rights to do a proper game later down the line???

Fuck that...even if it is Borderlands, and I like the series, Gearbox can go fuck themselves if they don't do something to fix A:CM. Never trusting them again.

I have been waiting for a Crysis 3 or Tomb Raider review from you guy's. Not to be rude but, Aliens: Colonial Marines? Seriously?

I was hoping to see Crysis 3 perf. review and I find this ugly port. That game is not worth to be looked at esc. because all the marketing crap and lies before release.

Tomb Rider has some problems with Nvidia GPUs and its to early but nice looking game and it will be nice to see review later.

I love Borderlands too much. If they make a Borderlands 3 and its even 3/4 as good as the 2nd? I'll be in I won't lie. I had a HUGE amount of fun doing it co-op with 3 friends.

But I can understand why you will avoid them entirely.

People were warned. Did they listen? Uh no.

Are you kidding? Warned how?

The E3 demo and countless previews shown to the press looked NOTHING like the final release. Hell I watched a live stream from IGN with Gearbox dev's and all I thought during the entire stream (which was hours long) was "What THE FUCK??!!!??? This is nothing like the preview builds.."

But since the game was releasing only hours after watching that I didn't want to prejudge. I figured IGN was just running a console build or crappy gaming PC.. NOPE I was right and should have trusted my gut.

We got screwed , without warning of any kind.
