Is it 120 Hz Movies?

I'm sure many of you have seen 120 Hz televisions at the department store. I can easily discern by the movies being demoed. Are the movies actually recorded at 120 fps or are the televisions filling in the missing frames to create the illusion? I am thinking the former. It is remarkable the stark contrast in how the movies look. The higher frame rate gives the movie a live shot look.
 
No, almost all movies are filmed at 24fps. However, since 120 is evenly divisible by 24, whereas 60 is not, 120hz should theoretically give you a smoother picture when viewing 24fps content.
 
The TV artificially fills in the missing frames to make it smoother which is why you get frame skipping and hitching on most programs. It just looks bad. The new Hobbit movie is the first, I think, to film at 48fps instead of 24p. A lot of people complained about it. Only a few theaters showed it in 48fps though. That's naturally showing more frames and people didn't like that. So I really don't know why some people enable motion smoothing on their TV's. 120hz will give you a smoother picture if you play a bluray. It's most noticeable on scenes where the camera pans. There's significantly less judder but then again it's STILL only 24fps.
 
I personally hate it with a passion, it just looks wrong. Movies at 24hz are just fine.

movies are filmed at 25fps
