I am looking for a Windows 8 tablet and came across the Dell Latitude 10. I like the specs of this device especially the USB port that can power a external HDD. Would be even better if it was 3.0 but whatever. I was looking at the 499.00 model as I dont really need a ton of internal storage. This would mainly be a backup machine to my Latitude E6520. That sucker is a monster to take on the road with you. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Budget-500 or less
Purpose-browsing, light work, excel, word etc..
No android
No IOS
 
So what are you planning on doing with this device? I have the Samsung Atic Smart PC 500T which uses the same Clover Trail platform that the Latitude 10 does. It's fine for web browsing, video playback up to lower bit rate 1080P video, mainstream desktop apps like Office, etc. So not a lot of top line performance but fantastic battery life in as light of device that you can currently get in Windows x86 device.

Main use for the tablet would be for web browsing, minor MS Office work and movie streaming from my internal LAN. I have an iPAD now, which became the kids, and I have a Dell Latitude E6520 but its a beast...more of a desktop replacement. Also the battery life on the E6520 is horrid.
 
The Latitude 10 should be perfectly fine for those purposes. I do the same things with my Samsung Ativ 500 and they work well but streaming 1080P high bit rate content from a network file system probably won't work well.
 
I really like the fact that the Dell has the removable battery as well as a USB powered port. A lot of tablets have the USB port, but it will not provide power so you can use an external HDD for example.
 
The replaceable battery in a tablet this thin and light is pretty impressive.

Yup, I actually bought the 4 cell for mine and it works great. It sticks out a little and adds more weight but still nice and light for travel.
