Diablo 3 Discussion Thread

I'll be all up in PoE once it releases....Dat Skill tree be hot.

I'll probably play D3 on and Off for years I'd imagine.....I just hope my gear doesn't become useless after long breaks....Like it did from 1.03 to 1.04.

I'll pop back in after 1.07 but then likely break until Expansion pack (Fire Emblem, Etrain Odyssey IV, Phantasy Star online 2)

PoE is already out SteveDave. Well it's open beta meaning no more wipes. They are going to add in more acts later though. Their servers are stressed to hell and back so you might get a queue though. :)

Oh and it's free with only cosmetic items in the item shop. So you can play D3 and PoE at the same time if you get tired of either. www.pathofexile.com

I'm going to hold off until it is out of beta; don't want to get tired of the game before its even officially released.....Plus Fire Emblem came out today.

One other thing I noticed, and that's probably a coincidence is that since the PoE Open Beta started my drops have become better. I've been able to earn a few million every day since last week and with one legendary (Skorn) getting around 50 million. Is it possible drops are getting better if fewer people are playing?

But more likely it's just the RNG. (Barbarian Paragon Level 31)
It's a coincidence that any changes have coincided with POE changes but one of the advantages of an always on server-side game like D3 is that changes can be made continuously without bringing down the server and/or requiring client updates.

On a separate note, I'm surprised more people haven't leveled their hardcore characters in D3. I wonder how many people expressing disinterest in the game have actually tried hardcore mode extensively. I'd like to see some of your profiles.

Yeah, it's hard to tell if they change settings outside the patches as well but I wouldn't be suprised if it does happen sometimes. It's a great way of keeping or drawing back players. Last week legendaries were almost dropping like candy (although only one or two were worth something) and now I haven't seen one in several days. But again the RNG can do that to you.

I agree, Hardcore really brings new life into a game like D3. I haven't really tried it yet because I have trouble losing a character I put so much time in, yet I can imagine it is a real adrenaline rush. Maybe I should give it a try soon.

===

I do feel D3 still needs a lot of changes to ensure its long-term survivability. I really hope they'll implement an end-game random map/dungeon system one day. It gets boring over time playing the same Acts over and over. A Monster Horde (doubling or tripling monsters and Elites) option and a Increased Monster Damage slider (damage above the normal damage settings on MP levels) would be great as well IMHO.

I really recommend you try it out. The adrenaline rush you suspect does exist.

The first time I lost my character was because one of my buddy's told us that as long as we were in a MP game we could resurrect each other. So I was trying to power level while everyone was back in camp (because I was a couple days behind the group). I rushed a boss and died...and just so you know there was no headstone!

Anyway, the second time I *almost* lost a character was when I had to powerlevel the second character since I had to start over (and I actually told the group I was done with hardcore because I'd just lost a few legendaries and didn't want to be a couple dozen levels behind everyone perpetually) but the group said they wouldn't mind starting from the beginning until I caught up.

Anyway everyone went to sleep and I said oh well what can it hurt the map is cleared and I just need to find this one more thing to complete the quest line and fill up two more bars of XP for my next level...except that I stumbled into a patch of woods that wasn't cleared and it wasn't a big deal until out of the grove came not only the small handful of baddies but an elite pack on their heels! And I ran off trying to find the portal back to town (because that's instantaneous rather than trying to manually portal out and getting killed during the few seconds of channeling) and wouldn't you know it but I aggro'd about twenty or thirty creeps that were on the other side of the map! I had to run around the map for a good 10 minutes dropping potions while every once in a while a creep would catch up to me and tag me a little and I occasionally picked one off. Finally drew them to a bridge where I could tackle three at a time!

Whoa! I was sweating and shaky a bit after that. I don't play by myself anymore. Not that anyone can res someone (to clarify my friend was wrong in him remembering that he'd been ress'ed in a MP hardcore game so don't test it) but it's helpful to have someone fight a big clump of baddies. But I'm thinking when I get up into the really high level stuff I don't know what I'll do or how I'll feel when I'm dead and gone.

And despite people thinking that RMAH is all about making Blizzard money to the detriment of the game and loot drops that would tend to be contradicted by the fact that RMAH is not available in Hardcore mode where gear literally means in-game life or permanent death.

@ mope54

Thank you for sharing your experiences with Hardcore. It sounds really intense, sorry about the loss of your first character.

I think I'll try a HC character coming weekend. Maybe this is what I need to fully get back in D3 again, although I'm also waiting for the 1.07 patch.Currently dividing my free time a bit between D3 and Torchlight 2.

Does anyone feel the AH is very slow lately ? It take a long time for movements to register in the AH (like buying and seeing in the completed list or waiting for both lists to display). Even the latest maintenance didn't fix that.

They have a blue post about the Auction House on the blizzard forms....Something along the lines of "Its fucking busted but still fucking works just takes a long fucking time so fucking deal with it" give or take a few fuckings.

lol typical blizzard

I just logged and there is a announcement there will be a maintenance period tomorrow starting at 10:00 pst to investigate and solve this.

Nice, warm and happy over at PoE thread fellas. Come see the light. ;)

(I occasionally read various D3 forums for laughs, like they say "the forums are more fun than the game itself")

Hardcore is interesting, gets the heart pumping... but I recommend you really stack yourself with AH upgrades before moving from one difficulty to the next. Going from Nightmare to Hell scales a fair bit, so much that my poor wizard couldn't handle the first blues of that skeleton king dungeon in you get dropped into (with no way to escape) at level 50 in Act I. I'll have to try again for 60 sometime, maybe next patch if they work in some kind of XP boost.

Blizzard confirmed that patch 1.0.7 will come tomorrow. If there's still someone around interested in it. ;)

Personally I'm especially looking forward to the MP levels in Public games. There's barely any tension anymore in current Public Games (or life left, but that's another matter) as most players aren't being pushed to their limits at all, it just becomes boring.

Hopefully this will bring some new life and excitement to Public Games.

Nice ! I was wondering when 1.0.7 will come out last evening... Especially the public games when I'm getting tired of pulling the whole group forward.

Sweet. I was wanting to get back into it, but it felt kind of pointless. A new patch is a good reason to give it another go. Monster Power Pub games are going to be hilarious. Frustrating, but hilarious. Hopefully they can help me get to the higher MP levels though!

^

I felt the same way about being kind of pointless, especially with the upcoming experience changes. I did level up a Demon Hunter over the weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the news about the patch.

Sorry, I forgot to post the link. The release of the patch was announced in a "blue post" on the Blizzard forums.

I'm sorry, Blizzard, but minor spell tweaks, monster power tweaks, and a meager little dueling area just aren't quite enough to bring me back.

I know you don't care though, seeing as I've already given you my monies.

It's become glaringly obvious that anything they fix or change in the game, that has any substantial value or draw, will come in the form of an expansion one must buy.

1.0.7 is out.

Still haven't done much of anything in it....but wave of light is WAY over powered for 2-handed weapon monks 390% to 829% was way too much....They really want people to get off of the standard monk build.

I haven't played in about a month now. Maybe I will, but I dunno. I guess I will get the update at least.

I probably should sell one of the accounts.

im loving the new patch

Me too, especially the MP on public games. Finally a worthy challenge (I can pick a higher MP and be sure the people in the same game can pull with me instead of dragging leechers and weak players across the maps). I also love the increased XP bonus so I will do trials to find the sweet spot. Before that, it's best to do leveling runs at MP0 because a 10% increase of MP1 isn't worth the 1-2 mins increase in run time. Now at 25% for MP1, 50% for MP2 and 80% for MP3, it's becoming harder to find the sweet spot.

I didn't check everything yet but so far, the patch is a excellent one.

agreed. Last night I only got to try MP3 and MP5. I felt the MP3 run was just as quick as MP0 run resulting in a VERY nice XP gain. I'd have to run the MP5 again.. But i guess it really depends on the type of group you get matched up with too.

And the dps of your character too. While normal monsters get a % increase in live which is little enough to use a extra hit or two only, elite monsters seems to be increased much more, taking longer to kill them. That's the problem with a flat HP % increase across the board (10% of 100,000 = 110,000 HP while 10% of 20,000,000 = 22,000,000 -> 2 mil HP increase).

It's why it's best to determine the right MP based on the time to kill a elite pack (or two if you aren't as lucky). If that add a extra minute or two, just lower the MP or increase the DPS.

I might play a little more to see if I can craft anything, but I dunno. Still feels boring. XP felt better though

I ran a quick MP5. Didn't last long. The whole group wiped on the first blue pack, except me. After I died, I quit.

Basically my experience was whites were a challenge for most. They'd be fighting a larger group for a while and not do much damage, after I entered the fray, the mobs would go down. This gave them over confidence and they attempted the typical "GO AS FAST AS YOU CAN TO GET THE LOOTZ BEFORE EVERYONE ELSE!@" until they met with blues, upon which they died one after the other in a train. I tried to tank the blues until they got back, but died relatively quick.

Frustrating.

I'll probably stick sub MP5 for Pubs.

I can play mp6 with my "tank" demon hunter build where I have 224k SS or roughly 100k dps and 50k hp and 1200 all resist meant for uber boss runs. My damage canon build has 291k ss or 140k dps but has speed, 1100 all resist and 32k hp. I played the damage canon on mp4 with a pub. The 2 groups I played with were being massacred by elites. I think this is going to be the trend where a lot of players overestimate where they can play and then during elite battles get killed when they "speed" like mp0 runs.

I netted an amulet plans and my first attempt made me regret. Had 291 dex I think with vit, str, and dmg but no all resist, crit dmg or chance which made it worthless. Wasted a square emerald on top of it.

I have yet to play a public game.....I might someday considering all my normal crew is no longer regulars.

This patch super nerfed reflect which is the only thing that made me play more carefully. I'm trying to determine the best difficulty to farm demonic essence. I've experimented mp7, mp8, and mp10, solo of course. I'm toying with mp8 right now.

I did play pubby for the first time last night too. That was a blast. I was on mp8 or mp10. Don't recall.

Tried out my Wizard again with 1.07... got 85K dps, 27K health, and 1000 all resist. I pop Archon and my damage and resists jump up, and stuff becomes doable. Enough white mobs and I stay in it practically forever, doing the usual Act III run back from Azmodan. Did it at MP4 but anymore and the mobs take way too long to burn down. Wish I could upgrade more but every gear slot is like a million plus gold, and in 250 hours played I've never had anything better than a legendary amulet that I sold for 2.5 million ever drop. I'll play it a bit more, maybe my luck will finally happen.

try out the new Temporal Flux with Akon mode its pretty bad ass for extra health or fast mobs 60% slow stops them just enough so they die before hitting you.

arcane orb is still pretty lame. 175% to 200% vs something like wave of light 390% to 829%.

did some battling for the first time.

Monk seems to be the best. Either dodge monk or 2 handed Wave of light won for me 80% of the time.

My wizard could do anything except max out DPS at 230k at switch to lighting armor and mirror image and run away till something dies.

Barb 2 handed rend sprint seems to be about the best I could come up with. Pretty fun but god damn that should have been handed to us months ago or even better at launch. It looks like they put pretty much no work into it.

HOTA + Rend is almost not beatable.

I think the easiest way to farm them was to invite some buddies to your group then have them drop them for you to pick up. Well at least that's what KingKongor was doing on his stream today. :)

Aren't demonic essence account bound? I played last night and I think I noticed they are...

There's an exploit going around that lets others pick them up. I heard that guy was also transferring his valuables to another account in case the one he was using got banned.

Blizzard is aware of that exploit and I believe they are working on a hotfix.
