Aliens; Colonial Marines a Sci/Fi L4D ?

I think it should be very interesting to wait and see how gearbox responds. They are, generally, a good gaming company, and I suspect they are crafting some kind of response right now.
(I might re-nig on my promise not to buy into games before they launch)

Wow, that before and after video is mind boggling.

Gearbox, fix this shit! and give us answers!

AND PEOPLE WONDER WHY THEIR GAMES GET PIRATED!

GOD DAMNIT

Gearbox, you are disgrace to the community the fans the movies and to yourselves. I will never buy another Gearbox game again.

Amazing. Says it all.

That and that Ripley GIF from yesterday.

It's downright mystifying.

When was the last time we saw a situation like this, folks?

I'm not sure I get that logic... "Gearbox, you've made some amazing games before, but because this one sucks, I'm going to pirate it and play it anyway... despite being terrible!"

Everybody is mind boggled at this. The difference is such that the demo comes of as shady publicity.

I'm waiting to see some of the gaming outlets pick up on that and run with it. I hope they go after this and pin their ears back because something stinks here.

who's the surprise character that makes an appearance at the end of the game?...post in spoiler tags...that's the only thing I'm interested in...

I'm just done pre-ordering sight unseen

I made a pact with myself after I pre-ordered 'Dishonored' and was slightly disappointed after all the hype to do the same...I've surprisingly been holding up as I held out on Far Cry 3, Dead Space 3, Hitman and Colonial Marines...I will buy the first 2 when they go on sale...in years past I would have blindly pre-ordered all of them

very few games are on my Day 1 must-buy list for 2013...Crysis 3, Metro: Last Light and Bioshock Infinite

I wouldn't even buy any of those day one TBH. Especially Bioshock Infinite, which has seen a VAST number of changes since the first trailers we saw.

I think I'm done pre-ordering games period. Honestly the only reason I have pre-ordered games is either for the bonus (when it's something cool like BF3 with Back to Karkand) or because it's a significant discount ($30-35) off of MSRP.

I spose I'll finish it sometime tonight I'll post later.

Same I'm actually seeing more bad things than good with Bioshock Infinite. Stylistically it's an extreme departure from the original or SS2 which is what the whole thing was inspired by. I'm even hearing rumblings that those guys are out of gas artistically. I'm sure it'll be ok but I'm not very enthusiastic about it.

It's weird but not awful. They're a throwback to the 90s when they made like 6 million alien toys with weird powers. Basically they're walking bombs. They only move around if they hear sound. If they see you they rush and explode ala Serious Sam. It seems awkward and silly but it's pretty tense when you wondering around in the dark with no gun(you got captured and almost mouthraped) and get all jumpy when one of those things walks by. Honestly this game is more intense than the last 3 resident evils combined. I should note I dropped my ingame contrast to 0 so most of the game is very dark anyway.

lol...but you did buy Aliens: Colonial Marines and don't understand why so many people are hating on it ;)

I think we have very different tastes in games...Crysis and Metro are graphics powerhouses which I can understand if not to everyone's taste (and hardware specs)...but Bioshock Infinite is back under the guidance of Ken Levine...the same Ken Levine who was creative director for System Shock 2 and the original Bioshock...that alone should make this another classic...the guy knows how to tell a great story...add to that all the DX11 enhancements this time around and it should not only be a masterpiece in storytelling but also graphics

but that's the whole entire reason why they ditched Rapture!...they had basically run out of ideas and weren't content with repeating themselves...so they went and created this whole new world...how can you say that they are out of gas artistically when they created an entire new canvas...change is very good in this case

What are you even talk about? Try reading some of my posts after I played the game and gave my impressions. (EDIT: Not trying to rip on you, but I fully understand why people are hating on it. I'm upset with it, too.)

And buying this is precisely WHY I wouldn't buy any of these games day one. Luckily I only paid half MSRP for A:CM...if I'd paid $60 I'd be way more pissed.

I still don't think it's a 2/10 or 3/10, reviews giving it that score are garbage. IGN's review is about spot-on, though...4-5/10 for the campaign, a bit higher for the MP.

It doesn't make sense. People are just pisst off and reasonably so it would seem. Not only are they out $50, a lot of people were looking forward to this being "the great Aliens game."

Note to self: If a preorder goes on sale for %50 off, RUN LIKE HELL.

Thing is, that happens with quite a few titles...I only paid like $35-40 or so for a BF3 pre-order and that game wasn't awful by any stretch. Personally I didn't care for the MP balance much, but it was generally well-made.

You can't really tell based on discount alone...best option is to just wait a few days, or better yet, wait for the first sale after release.

Yeah I paid 30 for BL2 and BF3 around launch.

Examination of the bullshitting showed up on escapist

The above is pretty much why this game got all 2/10's. Because it is literally not the game they purchased.

To put it in perspective. Monster Hunter is a pretty ok game. 5-7/10 in most cases, but lets say you saw footage of Diablo 3 and then when you started it up the night of launch it was Monster Hunter instead. Then it would get a 2/10 if that. Reviewers are wrecking havok on this game not just for being subpar but because they were lied to.

It appears Randy Pitchford was too busy sucking Nvidia off and taking their cash to add PissX into Borderlands 2 to care about Aliens:CM and it shows.

Simply mindblowing! Okay, its common thing to say that demo does not represent final product accurately but usually that means things get better and more polished. The hell!?

Wow!...does Gearbox continue to get a pass?...this is now 2 games where it was not only bad but absolutely terrible beyond words...they can't live off of their Borderlands 2 rep forever

Okay, I feel like I need to address something here...I'm pissed about this situation, but I keep hearing this, "We were lied to!!!" business, because people are watching a two year old demo video and claiming the game is not the same. Well, that's true, but a game is likely to change over a two year period. Why they made it change for the worse, basically scrapping all of the atmosphere in that demo...I have no fucking idea, they should not have. But watching a two year old video and claiming you were lied to is disingenuous.

We had that two hour IGN video of actual, recent gameplay. People didn't watch that, I guess...

Gearbox appreciates your unpaid damage control efforts, have a cookie.

Wow. I have to say I agree with many of their points, but not a 1/5 score. IMO that should be reserved for a game that barely even runs, has massive bugs that are game-breaking, etc. A:CM is mediocre at best but so far I haven't encountered any game-stopping bugs or crashes of any kind, and performance is good.

I totally agree with them about the MP being unbalanced. Playing as a Xeno sucks ass right now, and you're forced to do it every set of rounds.

I sure didnt, but then again I dont follow IGN. All footage I have seen so far have been from the the old demo and thats the game I, and a lot of people, have been expecting.

It's not damage control, it's what reality is. If that same footage had been shown recently, I'd be right there with everyone else feeling lied to.

Makes me wonder if people are going to say the same about Bioshock Infinite, because the game is certainly not going to be the same as the footage we saw years back.

I think the one thing Randy Pitchford did lie about is that they "love the Aliens franchise" and all that BS about it being their "dream project". Total nonsense, they clearly did not give this title the respect it deserves.

Man, I do wish the game was ACTUALLY like that old demo...

Can't believe they just tossed all of that out the window and we ended up with this.

BF3 was Ebay Preorder Origin key, Premium actually came with karkland.

BL2 was someone here on the forums who got a key with a videocard.

Impressive!

75% off sale coming in record time...

Firesale in record time. Guaranteed.

I'm wondering what other kind of fallout we're going to see based on the dots we've connected here.

Let's think about it though: How do you make a game look considerably WORSE over time instead of better? That doesn't stick in your craw a little bit? ;)

I have to say that's pretty friggin' remarkable that these guys could take what's in that demo, spend x amount of more months on it, and take several step backwards as an end result.

I'll be very surprised if that game is a letdown. Could end up on GOTY shortlists if it lives up to billing. (re: Not excessive hype.)

Agreed.

It's amazing this franchise can't get something better than the likes of what we've seen. It mystifies me considering how many people in gaming are probably as big of fans of it as most of us here are.

I don't get it.

I'm wondering what other kind of fallout we're going to see based on the dots we've connected here.

people will be far less trusting of Gearbox and Randy Pitchford going forward...I do wonder if they will release some kind of explanation (apology?) for this mess

No I agree with you, it makes absolutely no sense at all and it does infuriate me. Which is why I'm still anxious to hear what Gearbox has to say.

If you guys wanna see some REAL lies:

Just astounding. I don't think I can ever trust Randy Pitchford again.

His Twitter has been dead silent for like 48 hours now. I bet he's either a) crying in a corner or b) leaving the country with all our money.

Still, Gearbox has generally been good about post-release support so...we'll see. My fear is that they will figure it would cost too much to fix and write the whole thing off.
