Who else bought it?

Added funds to wallet and cleared space. First time I bought a full 3DS game. Takes up 8.8k blocks. Are memory cards swappable with the 3DS? Meaning can I swap memory cards as I please and if I get a bigger memory card can I reels load Fire Emblem to it?

Nevermind that , I just started downloading it :) Can't wait to play it!

Yes you can swap for a larger SD card but only up to 32GB. Just put your current SD card into a memory card reader , copy all the folders off it and paste to the new memory card. Then install the new memory card and boot up your 3DS.

I upgraded mine to a 32GB and it shows I have 225,340 blocks free. Which should last me ...for just about forever.

Gonna do that. Link me to the right kind of memory card on Amazon?

This is what I got : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007M54E1M/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01

You don't have to get class 10 but its made for lots of write cycling so it should remain fast for a very long time unlike lower class SDHC cards (HC stands for high capacity and its still the same type of memory card so they work fine in the 3DS).

If you want a cheap reliable memory card reader : http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00109Y2DQ/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00

Works nice and fast and I had my transfers done in minutes. I recommend for safety backing up your 3DS SD card now and again just to save yourself the hassle.

Also Fire Emblem is AMAZING. I'm playing it on hard difficulty with classic mode enabled (1 life only per character). Its really a truly engaging game.

Gratitude for the wise counsel from valued friend :D

The game is friggin awesome!! It's amazing how deep it is. It sets a new standard for how deep a portable game can be. That's pretty deep!

My copy was delayed by UPS....so I bought a digital copy and I'll keep the other one sealed.

I put in about 3 hours (5 if you include death restarts) I picked Hard ~ Classic. For some reason I like when someone Dies I have to restart or loose them forever. Adds an element of seriousness to the battle for me.

I picked Magic (Soren 4 life) as my strength and Resistance as my weakness and so far it has worked out quite well for me luck has been generous I'm already at 7 res despite it being my weakness.

In RPGamer's review of this game they stated that pairing up doesn't do much....I'm guessing they were playing on easy ~ no permanent death mode because Pairing Up is the shit for people who don't want to lose characters. You have 2 enemy wizards just Pair Up with a Healer and instantly boost your RES 3 points and don't have to worry about the Healer dying. Pair a slow fat knight up with a swordsmen and BAM you have 3 skill and 3 speed and now you don't get double tapped by wizards.

Also Typically I don't play pre-promoted characters and if they force me to use them I can just pair them under a lower level dude.

Only complaint I have so far is they start you out with too many characters typically its a slow build up so you can gauge who to keep and who to bench...currently I have very little ideas on that. Benching the Archer, Wizard, pegasus knight, and axeman for now....so many characters so fast I don't even know their names nor do I care about their stories so far.

Thanks for the reminder, Fail. I think I'm sold on this game.
However, I am forcing myself to finish Devil Survivor before I pick this up.

Chipping away at that backlog...

No problem dude :D

It truly is awesome I've been playing for hours and I'm continually impressed how deep and fun it is.

The story is pretty involved as well but I'm enjoying it quite a bit. It has a very nice JRPG feel to it that I've missed from playing lots of Western RPG's.

One piece of advice to new players. Frederick is powerful, overtly so. Don't use him to kill normal enemies unless you absolutely must. Use your regular and weaker guys so they get all the exp and killing blows for exp instead. This will keep your party strong and will help your guys level faster.

Also you guys know about the free DLC until March?

Nope...but now I do. I'll see what DLC they have for a game that was just released.

First thing I did was hand Frederick's silver lance to the Armored knight and use him as bait....They attack him like crazy when he has no weapon on.

The new DLC is supposed to be for adding Marth to the game as DLC. Anyone have more information on this and how to check to be sure you have it?

There is a path that opens up to a Warp Gate. Take that path , go through the gate and you can challenge Marth to a battle and win him over. Marth's DLC is free until 3/6 then its $2.50. You can also do bonus battles inside the Warp Gate I believe as well.

God I love this game.

If anyone experiences crashing during the cinematic cutscenes let me know! Wondering if it is due to wifi=on or something else...

As a newcomer to the series this bit of advice makes sense based on what I can tell so far.

Why does Frederick gain XP so slowly? Just part of the deal?

Got the DLC and did the map like 3 times leveling up that Farmer kid.

Now that it looks like you do endless battles my complaint about too many characters is no longer a complaint as I can level them all up.

Pair UP is so good I love it. Thief + Armor Knight = WIN. + 5 Defense + 3 Str yes please.

What is exactly in the "Marth DLC?"

Also.... Do you guys use Reek boxes to level up? I just defeated Marth in the arena. I'm assuming that is part of the story and not the actual Marth DLC, right?

I have used Frederick sparingly and I am leveling up Meriel and it is paying off in spades, she now casts twice each time she attacks and so does me, Stryder the Tactician, with my magic!

I think Sumia, the Pegasus knight is useless but I try to let her snipe kills anyway. Vaike is powerful but takes a lot of damage easily which is annoying. Chrom is good, but I always keep Lissa in my party. She is the rock that holds my entire army together.

Yep and if you don't pair up you simply won't be able to finish the game. Its absolutely vital for Classic mode on hard.

I'm digging the story now so much more. Also it seems the game is sold out almost everywhere. I bought mine on the Nintendo Store day 1 instead of a hard copy.

Yeah they are sold out everywhere. My Amazon order was lost in translation so I had to try and find one and the 3 stores closest to me were sold out. I had to order it through the DS....not a bad system except for the whole Nintendo points thing which leaves you with left over money.

If they drop 1 dollar maps in the DLC I'd buy every single one of them....I have 6 bucks left over I have to use on something.

I didn't use Sumia at first...but now she is one of my favorite characters. I like to use her to grab Kellam(armored knight) and Fly on a bridge then switch so Kellam can block the bridge. She also gives bonus RES to help Kellam against Mages.

also you get Cordelia another PegKnight on like map 7 if you didn't spend time leveling up Sumia...even though you can completely do without flying classes I can't count the number of restarts I have had from rouge archers 1 shotting my fliers.

I bought the first Reek box but I don't know if I'll buy more as the DLC map you can play endlessly......and I am having a major gold shortage after buying 2 level up emblems.

For those of you who don't know how to get the DLC for free. You have to play until Chapter 4 or 5, then you will see a section of the map unlock in the south, and when you go to the new unlocked location, it'll say Outrealm, and you go in there, then in the menu inside there, you can download your Marth DLC for free.

Again, it's the OUTREALM node on the map, NOT the one where you go to pick up Donnell. Hope that helps everyone.

My Donnell can finally hold his own. Went from level 8 to level 13 in 1 battle....Still about 4 levels behind though.

Frederick is a promoted Knight, he is a Great Knight, that means he's gone from being a Tier 1 class to a Tier 2 class, and Tier 2 classes gain levels slowly. He's extremely powerful as a result, and I try not to use him at all, because if you do, then your whole army suffers from it, because they aren't getting the exp at the rate they should be because he one shots everything.

Really digging the game, I'm at the Border Pass (Chapter 5).

Also sometimes the Pre-Promoted characters are less powerful in the end than the ones that aren't...this is because you can promote from level 10 though 20....and if you promote at level 10 vs level 20 you'll have less total level ups.

This isn't always the case though...for instance Wolf from the DS fire emblem was a god and he was pre promoted but you'd see him gain 2 or 3 points on some stats at level up.

Haven't played this game enough to tell weather or not pre-promoted unit suck yet.

I just stick a Steel Axe on Fredrick and send him first into battle. He gets swarmed almost instantly and because he isn't using a Lance his damage is cut pretty far down. At least I get the benefit of divide and conquer with him.

But yea I try to pair up and level up each character as much as possible. I alternate each battle with which pair I intend to favor if its not a story critical battle. I'm finding this strategy to work out well at rounding out my characters without too much focus on a single pair.

*SPOILER POSSIBLY* What's really weird is the marriage system in this game lol , I guess Fire Emblem characters are cool with getting married after only about 5 or 6 real conversations and some battles together. Must be a cultural thing I guess.

Etrian Oddessey IV demo is available in the 3DS shop to download starting today. You guys who are playing Fire Emblem should give it a go when you feel like taking a break from Fire Emblem. I'm gonna download it later tonight, if I like it, I'll give it a buy next month.

Damn I got my ass handed too me on a side quest where the Armored Knight girl Challenges the Wizard to a duel.

I beat the entire map with ease and then take my highest resistance character and attack the wizard. Wizard Doges my attack then attacks back (he has a double attacking tome) and killed me....its been 5 hours since this and I'm still a bit hurt on the inside....might be time for the Etrain Odyssey IV Demo.

I beat the first 2 challenge maps. Fun stuff. I finally got my Tactician (my character) to lvl 10+. He can respec into anything. I'm playing with the idea of making him a Thief then Assassain.

What do you gents think?

Also I have the Etrian Oddessey IV demo but have not played it yet.

Is this game alone worth it to pick up a 3ds?

That's not really an easy question to answer. You'll have to decide for yourself if it's your kind of game by watching a few video reviews or asking to play a friends 3DS. Fire Emblem is a niche game for a reason, it isn't for casuals even though it offers a casual mode which only keeps characters from dying permanently.

But other than that, there are a lot of reasons to get a 3DS.

Fire Emblem
Etrian Oddessey IV
Zelda 3DS
Bunch of Mario games
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked
a new SMT: Devil Survivor 2 game in April!

If you like fighting games
Street Fighter 4, and Dead or Alive: Dimensions are decent

Racing games, there's Mario Kart. Ridge Racer is out but I would consider it too shallow of a racing game to play.

Anyway, I picked up Gaius and I'm gonna try to make him my first Assassin. I'm thinking of making my main character just a mage, because he's very durable, and effective with his magic, and there's too many melee characters, so the main character doesn't need to be one.

My opinion is as long as you have enough money I'd buy the 3DS. 3ds is still relatively new and will have MANY more games coming out for it.

Me personally I'd buy a any console has a game I enjoy as much as fireemblem on it. I own a game cube because of Fire Emblem. I own a Wii because of Fire Emblem. I'll own a wii U because of Fire Emblem x SMT.

Second DLC is up. its 2.50 and pretty much exactly the same as the last one and you get Roy.......Worth .99 barely not 2.50. I'll buy a few more that come out and if they don't get more in depth or cheaper I'll stop.

Chapter 17 kicked my ass I had to restart 5 or 6 times. Hidden Mages and archers that look the same as other classes kept owning me that and I kept making rookie mistakes....Great map though.

I dropped my 3DS off my table and it fell onto the tile floor but looks undamaged.

I'm gonna buy a cart version of FE just to be on the safe side. I can always just buy a new 3DS later on and leave my Fire Emblem sealed just in case.

Have you guys messed around with the Second and Master Seals yet? I have two Second Seals but have not used either yet.

I also have been recruiting everyone possible so far. I have a huge army and can't use everyone :(

I like Lon'qu a lot, he is a bad ass. Him and Meriel are my 2 best units. My main avatar is also unstoppable.

wow....just wow...

This game is hard to pass without loosing units and this game crashes on one of the later green quest. Can't find anything online about it.

seriously though I'm at like 10 tries on chapter 25.

Back up your SD card. Seriously. Right now. If you don't have a media card reader buy one off Amazon for $10. Money well spent.

Considering how ass tight Nintendo is with system purchases , be on the safe side about it as much as possible.

But man I'm loving this game , I'm 16 hours in (between this and Ni No Kuni I'm balls deep in JRPG territory) this is my favorite 3DS game. Very surprised at the developing story its really well done for a Fire Emblem game and for a portable game in general , it feels very epic and home console made.

I bought a physical , sealed copy. I think its a smart investment. They are sold out everywhere for this game. Fire Emblem games are often gems that become rare down the line so I would recommend the same.

But great game , getting better with age just as it should. Its been a long time since I've played any tactical RPG's that could easily hold their own with FF Tactics but this one does and I think possibly succeeds it in some cases.

Just passed it.

Hard - Classic with no deaths 32 hours.

3 main characters who stood out were Gauis, pr.Marth, and Donnel...

Donnel's could single handily finished the game.

85 HP
45 st
40 skill
36 speed
46 luck
41 defense
28 res.

and he wasn't even maxed out.

That won't help. It's tied to your system so even if you "back it up" if you try to put it on another system it'll not work.

I guess I should also mention you can promote endlessly. Get to level 20 promote starts you back at level 1 of the same class or a new class if you like....you ca also down grade the promotion is you'd like to do that for whatever reason.

So using pre-promoted characters is not an issue.

Just tried to start a new insanity difficult game and I can't even get passed the first map without a crash....Nothing really on the Internets about the issue yet. So I just deleted the game and am re-downloading it hopefully it just got corrupted or something. If I still have the crashing issue I'll probably just open my physical copy.

-edit

Re-downloading it worked I can play without crashing. If I had to guess I'd say I have a bad SD card.

Lunatic is lunacy.....It might even be too hard for me. I could probably do it if I could just get past map 3...but damn that shit is brutal. Might have to do lunatic Casual instead of classic

Congratulations on beating the game, stevedave!

I want to level Gaius but he is weaker than a newborn baby and I want him to become an Assassin, and get Lon'qu as Swordmaster! Lon'qu can hold his own. I have a question. Any tips for leveling Gaius easier? He can pick off killing blows but if you use him in your army, you need him to be a little stronger than that.

Btw, what was your main class on your main char? I'm still a Tactician, and have not obtained a master seal yet.

Also, can you get more Killing Edges in the game? It's a bad ass weapon and makes Lon'qu kick ass left and right!

Killing edges can be found as a rare item in shops and on the battle field, you get more and more as time goes.

Pair Gaius up with a Knight and that's all you really have to do it gives him like 6 defense. but you have to do it when you first get him so he doesn't fall behind....I always use the thief in Fire Emblem

my main class was sorcerer Dark Magic pretty much makes you unkillable with things like nosferatu regain life per damage dealt.

I am on map 7 on lunatic......However I have lost quite a few members. I tried to do it without having anyone die but some maps are just too ruff for bitches not to die.

Last day of vacation....back to 1 or 2 hours of gaming a day.

some new DLC out. One of the maps gives a ton of gold for doing it.

Making my battle in lunatic a bit more manageable.

You're a good man stevedave. I just don't have time to play it this month, but keep updating this thread with the stuff you find, so when I do have time to play again, I can look here and know what to look for. Working too much overtime to really sit down and play, which is unfortunate!

So I checked out videos showcasing this video and it brings back a lot of good memory's from FF Tactics (such an amazing game).

Do you guys think that since I love FF Tactics and the new XCOM (I prefer more memorable characters though and purchasable or find able loot) that I would love this series of games? I'm also really into Metrovania styled games (like SOTY).

Is the 3DS with it for me or does it have more than just Fire Emblem that will quench my thirst for these kind of games (which they don't seem to make on more modern consoles anymore)?
