You Spend 80% Of Work Time ‘Cyberloafing’

Cyberloafing is part of my job, I have to make sure the internet connection is working :)

I should forward this to my boss.

At around 40% loaf-quota, that makes me a very productive employee according to the stats.

OK! Does anybodys boss visit this site and knows your name? That would be awkward!

We needed research to find this out?

Might be due to the monotony of the job, I'm working on several different things right now, and I'm blowing time with a reply to this thread while I wait.

I don't deny that cyberloafing is real - heck, I'm doing it now, although I am on my lunch break - I do think that 80% is a bit high. 40 to 60% I could believe but 80? How does anything productive get done at that rate? These stats like to apply themselves to "everyone" but if every employee at every company only produced during 20% of their work day, then every company would be out of business.

Honestly, life must have been kind of shit before the internet.

We use to play outside or use our imagination playing with legos.

First video game? Pong, yeah, that was the stuff. 300bud/1200baud, ouch!

Yeah, it was crappy, but inet wasnt an option then. :)

You're fired. Pack up your shit and don't come back.... Cyberloafer.

That must be what the 'meeting' is for this afternoon. Dammit. I have to leave HardForum for an hour for a meeting..... :/

I was playing outside a lot more. Then, when computers came - I started learning a whole lot. Didn't waste time on the Internet like I do today, but I was always learning stuff. Went to work, go to play with some nice toys and networks (Netware... Uggg). But, I learned a lot. BBS's were cool, but long distance. Then, the Internet happened. After the $200 phone bill to California, I had to wait a couple years for a local ISP. Then, it was all over. Productivity dropped like a rock. I still learn a lot, but I get distracted a lot easier.

Yeah and before that you'd work on your father's farm/ranch/craft starting when you were 8, and hopefully for the rest of your life. You had no choice but to be productive otherwise you'd starve to death, or at the very least get a medieval beating.

That's all of course assuming you survived the 30% infant mortality rate.

Where the hell are these jobs that I can spend 6.4 hours of my 8 surfing the web and not getting fired? I call complete Bullshit on this study.

Must be nice.. I spend 12+ hours a day on my feet wrenching and heavy lifting depending on the situation, yall office monkeys are lazy loafers :p

It's called engineering.

I don't know a single engineer that works only 8 hours either. For that matter neither do I really. Pretty much minimum 10 hours usually 12 here. OT is the best thing ever in my job since I earn most of it driving.

Wow, I thought I was lazy. I don't ever spend more than 20% of my time cyber-loafing. Apparently I'm one of the more effective ones. I always thought that I was lazy.
