I read the quote below three times and still can't tell if he is talking about politicians or the game industry. Can you guys in California please vote this asshat out of office? Thanks to Carlos M. for the link.

Gamers have got to just quiet down. Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.

He may be arrogant, but he's right. Kids don't have a say on this one.

He is also the man introducing another "assault weapons" ban in California because he saw a video of people shooting CA legal AR-15s on the news. Clearly, they are so problematic, that the only way he learned about them was by seeing people doing target shooting with them.

I am not surprised he is going after video games as well.

Kiddkng, right? Not all gamers are 6years old .

No, but the bulk of them are under 18 and tea-bagging your mom while calling your racist epitaphs online.

This is what politicians see, not the quiet mind your own business older gamers who dont cause issues.

Just to clarify, he is a DEMOCRAT, the "D" in the article does not stand for douchebag.

Just sayin' republicraps are just as bad.

4.) The average game player is 30 years old and has been playing games for 12 years.
5.) The average age of the most frequent game purchaser is 35 years old.

It appears someone beat me to it but you're mistaken and so that means gamers do have a say in it unless he was referring to lobbyists in which then he'd probably be right.

Money over everything. - Politician

Yes, but Yee doesn't like facts. He was on some news network talking heads show arguing with someone over gun control laws, if I recall correctly he tried to state that Oakland and Stockton didn't have some of the highest murder rates in the nation, and neither did Chicago, while the other talking head was giving the actual per capita figures. He is a moron.

He also complained in the news about people being racist by telling him to go back to China, when in reality he's Chinese and emigrated from China(so there's nothing racist about making a comment to go back, ignorant maybe, but not racist).

Back to the videogame issue, Yee doesn't care about facts, typically knows nothing about the subject matter affected by his proposed bills, and is a typical moron politician. He fails to realize that the demographics of "gamers" has changed over the past 20 years and he's still stuck on statistics and propaganda from back in the mortal kombat arcade days.

Even though it's obvious to everyone else that 12-18 year olds don't have the disposable income that 30+ year olds do, and that videogames have been around so long now that there are gamers who started in their 20's now in their late 50's to early 60's.

It's funny because in reality the ones with no credibility in the whole gun control argument is...the gun industry. And yet they have the most pull, up to being able to point fingers at random places like video games and the movie industry.

Fantastic way to force more jobs overseas. Or force the game industry to pay up and "support" the politicians to vote against it. Either way sounds like horseshit to me.

I'm pretty sure for Leland Yee, the D does stand for douchebag. Almost makes me want to live in San Francisco so I could vote for anybody other than him. On the plus side, he's got to be close to terming out.

State senator Yee.

Let's not keep omitting that key word there. Local politicians and controversial statements go together like milk and coffee.

Senator Leland Yee, the same guy that wasted millions on a bill banning video games only to have it overturned by the courts.

Typical. Another nanny stater flexing his muscle.

And yes, he is a democrat, and yes, they are the bigger nanny staters. Republicans ain't far behind, though. This kind of crap transcends party lines.

Amazing how no matter how many times gamers are slapped in the face by ignorant Democrats they don't seem to care or want to say that "Republicans are just as bad". Not entirely sure what exactly Democrats have to do short of physically kicking you in the nuts to actually offend you.

Ahhh...cause they are....unless you're living under a rock.

If you search, on the Internet, for “US violent crime statistics”, you are likely to find that violent crime has gone down over the years that computer games have been around.

Because there are republicans that are just as bad on the topic of videogames.

What gamers need to do is not only realize that it isn't necessarily a party specific issue, but make it an issue that they're willing to base their votes on.

Great rebuttal....

The fact remains that the D's keep outing themselves as ignorant fools who use whatever tragic event they can find to springboard their personal agendas. This is probably just another springboard for another "vice tax".

A democrat from SF... nobody will listen outside of his circle of buddies. STFU Yee.

Damn you first amendment! How dare you express your opinion that is contrary to my opinion! I'm the elected official, so I win. Go home.

Lol.

He may be arrogant, but he's right. Kids don't have a say on this one.

Yeah, because ALL gamers are kids. Had he stated underage gamers have no say, then maybe his statement would be fine.

+1

yea...he's a douche...never voted for him...always plays the political card and makes a mountain out of a mole-hill.

it's funny...he says gamers have no say...and seems to conveniently ignore that researchers that researched this topic found no causal link between video games and criminals; shoot...I been there's a correlation (not causation) criminals and Fruit-of-the-l**m or H*nes or tighty-whities...or that they drive cars.
oh crap...if he reads this post, he might try to ban driving or wearing underwear.

The NRA demonstrated that the right-wing is infested with plenty of nanny staters who have just as much desire to control people's lives. Rick Santorum was a perfect example, and I say this as a guy for whom Mitt Romney was wayyyy too liberal.

Don't forget that one of the champions of anti-video game crusading was Jack Thompson, a Republican...as well as Joe Lieberman, an independent. Like I said, this shit transcends party lines.

Nope, that clock got reset. He's got another 11 years.

Comes from Kalifornia. Consisting of people retarded enough to elect Arnold as a governor. Hands down the state that is in the most debt. Yet the most liberal. Sorry, but this comes to no surprise as the state comprising of the biggest retards.

That's the point though. Defending a Democrat by saying "Republicans are stupid too" isn't a defense. Lets all agree that there are people on both sides who are wrong. I just wonder how many gamers will keep voting for him because of the (D) next to his name.

I guess the Senator's comment applies to the NRA and RIAA and MPAA as well. They're billion dollar industries.

Ultimately, this is one of the key, and most disgusting, parts of modern politics: discrediting, rather than debating, your opponent. I watched a segment yesterday from British politics, where they interviewed a couple of politicians regarding Scotland's interest in breaking away from England. On one side, Nigel Farage of UKIP, and on the other, a representative of the SNP in Scotland. They talked first to Farage, who gave his argument for why Scotland should stay out of the EU if they separate. Then the other guy started speaking.

He talked for literally 10 seconds before saying that the UKIP party was racist. What does that have to do with Scotland breaking away from the England, or its relationship to the EU? Fucking nothing. The majority of politics is dominated by people trained not in making their argument, but in making their opponents out to be horrible people. Shut up, you're racist. Shut up, you're sexist. Shut up, you're bigoted against this or that. Shut up, you're in the pocket of X industry. Shut up, you want puppies to die if you don't agree with me.

Let it burn.

In a lot of ways, the two party system is doing the country a huge disservice. It encourages herd mentality and blind voting.
