Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

would love to know too because all servers I play in (and they are usually full) one team ends up getting all the good players and the other average/bad players and that team ends up loosing 5 games in a row (I then have to quit).

I tried network smoothing, put it less than half and then half. I dunno, I do not notice much difference if any (maybe sometimes I do, I am not sure). I do however see that it screws up animations,s pecially the knifing anim

One thing that ruins this game for me is people switching teams at the first sign of losing. After 3 or 4 people do this (and believe me, they WILL), the losing team is not only out-skilled but out-numbered. This leads to an extremely unfair game that's not enjoyable at all.

Does anyone know of a server that doesn't all people to switch teams if it will unbalance the teams? Is it even possible in this game?

I've played on servers where there's a plugin that will move you back to the losing team if you try to switch into the winning team. It can even shame the person by sending a global chat message to everyone in the server telling them who tried to do it (not in the chat window, but at the bottom of your screen).

This is not a new problem. It helps to network with people, then get on comms and wreck face. 2-4 of us on a Teamspeak will more than make up for any unevenness in the teams.

At the moment, Origin won't go online. Battelog runs fine, but I can't play the game. EA.com.au is acting up too.

The people who do that usually suck pretty bad. The people I see team-jump are usually the ones who form the bottom of my team's scoreboard with an embarrassingly negative KDR and a sub-1000 score. They're good cannon-fodder  .

Ya probably.

I have my BF3 Network Smoothing Factor bar all the way to the right. What about you guys?

*Edit...

Wow just read some really interesting stuff on what that slider does.

http://battlelog.battlefield.com/bf3/forum/threadview/2832654347784303619/

"Slide it to the left and you will receive less data from the server... resulting in lower latency, better hit reg and some choppy animations.

Slide it to the right and you will receive more data from the server... resulting in higher latency, lower hit reg and better animations.
"

"the lower the slider is, the more "true" picture will be where enemies are, which is important for hit boxes and accuracy, how ever the side effect is choppy animations, you have to consider these two things like a balance"

"A lower setting of the network smoothing factor is for better/faster interwebz connection, but a too low value might cause visual corruption."

I have a 25mb down 20mb up connection...

Looks like I'm going bring that slider all the way to left tonight or around the 10-30% mark, really all I care about is hit detection.

I wish I would have done some more research on this before, already 400hrs in.

Has nothing to do with how much data you receive or send, it controls the client side interpolation time. You trade less latency (time spent interpolating, which is theoretically lag compensated for in gunplay, but still an extra "delay" nevertheless) for a potentially jittery looking game. As you're ultimately removing some latency from the equation, you can end up with a more responsive feeling game.

It's completely client side, it doesn't affect how others see you.

Tldr; lower values effectively lower your end all latency (NOT your ping) but can make things look jittery.

netsh int tcp set global chimney=enabled
netsh int tcp set global dca=enabled
netsh int tcp set global netdma=enabled
netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=highlyrestricted
netsh int tcp set global congestionprovider=ctcp
netsh int tcp set global ecncapability=enabled

These idiots with their useless tweaks. They do not know a damn thing about Windows network stack, and even their networking device.

DCA is direct cache access, unless you have a server card or one that is around $150 you will not have DCA. Net DMA is enabled by default but is not utilized unless you have a chipset that supports Intel's I/O Acceleration Technology (I/OAT). In other words Net DMA will not work unless you have installed I/O AT drivers. ECN is IP and TCP and only if both end points support it will it work at all. But also may not matter at all due to the UDP stream. ECN controls the flow of the packets by instead of dropping them, it will reduce the throughput. However, I do not think that these packets will be affected as so in this situation of gaming due to netcode usage of UDP. In other words I do not think the possible negative effect could possibly happen, and if it did you would be leaving the server, most likely, anyways.

Chimney is fine and good (enabled by default, doesn't matter but necessary to pass on the offloading ability if ability is present in adapter, i.e. TOE). Compound TCP is fine and should be enabled, but is only for TCP . Making sure that RSS is enabled on the NIC (if supported) and offloading is enabled for the functions the NIC supports is more important. Even getting a better and faster router would be better than trying to configure useless settings for 99% of the users. Not attacking you Shiz... attacking the useless tweaks tards that have not a clue.

Edit: The thing that I have noticed in my years is more about the server than the netcode. I have been on some servers which opponents take around 10-15 rounds. I can be shooting the head (what I perceive to be the head in game) and get nothing; even if it is a perfect headshot scoped in. On others it can take 5 rounds and head shots are dead on; these are the servers I play on. These servers, and the networks they are on are possibly not as congested, can handle the PPS, have a lot of processing power, etc.

I have to admit and I think it is odd the accuracy I have. Yet my accuracy on my profile does not reflect this. I do not waste my shots and most to all of the shots I shoot are registered as a hit. But On the servers that it takes "more" to take down an opponent my accuracy is penalized. It seems that the amount it takes for you to take down determines this factor. I really do not know, but on the server in which my accuracy is in tuned my accuracy goes up by a a few tenths. I have also noticed that some servers the knife take down is fast. Like, slice, you have tags. On others, it is like old people getting it on. Even though it is client side, there is still a lot to do with server side.

Dude there is nothing wrong with BF3 of course I played mech on a 14.4 modem on dial up. Its all about gettting used to playing on a particular server and "learning to play on it".

Why CEVO allowed European teams is beyond me, our first scrim is a forfeit win because the other team dropped

Im finding the M230 LVB or whatever the bouncy grenade launcher is called....its pure death on the AM maps. For rush or anything, you can bounce grenades down halls, around corners, bank them off walls...
No one else uses it, but its my weapon of choice right now.

Whoever designed the spawns for Noshahr Canals needs to be fired and banned from game design for life. It kept spawning me in the same fucking spot where there were several enemies just going to town, both around the area and from the usual train rail campsots. It then spawned me faced-planted into some piece of shit block, with a guy with a shotgun right behind me...as in point blank. My back was to him. I had no chance.

Then it spawned me in the exact same place. Again.

Oh, and turning down Network Smoothing does absolutely fuck-all.

I have seen more people using this latelly.

The person that designed those spawns hasn't touched BF3 code in a year because they're part of the core team that shifted over to CODField4 development soon after BF3's release, to get the new iteration slapped together in time for new console launches EOY. Wish I was kidding.

Sidenote, part of me wonders if BF4 will bother to feature vehicles as anything more than stationary objects, map props that you can't enter anymore and just use for cover. They'll probably keeps jeeps around though.

Don't ever suggest that again. I love infantry only for scrims, but the day Battlefield doesn't feature armor is the day battlefield is no longer battlefield.

Wasnt a suggestion, was a fear based on statements made by Patrich Bach ("We know as a fact vehicles are not as popular as infantry.") and the fact there's temptation to keep watering it down to the lowest CODenominator. EA has some serious Activision envy given MOH:WF sold about 5 copies while BLOPS2 was breaking sales records. EA can't afford to sit another holiday season out, especially with at least one new console launching within the timeframe, so tremendous pressure on DICE to create a highly saleable sequel. So even if DICE wanted some semblance of a return to roots, they dont necessarily have a choice as the safer route is arcademode CODField.

And no, it would no longer be Battlefield, but then many have argued that BF3 already wasn't Battlefield anymore. I imagine they'll leave tanks in, why not, but I wouldnt be surprised if for example aircraft are removed since its seemed to be all that infy's have ever bitched about at least on Battlelog's forums.

I hate to put someone on glass like this, but I followed [H] user WhyYouLoveMe into server and he was 50-7 and wasn't camping either, everyone else on his team had big double digit deaths, very suspicious if you ask me. I'm callin' out wallhax!

After he saw that I joined he must have toggled it off and started racking up some deaths. jk bro, gg :p

On a side note that server was pretty crazy, Hardcore is actually pretty damn fun. I like being able to take out 3-4 people at medium/long range with an assault rifled using a single clip.

Yeah the only problem with hardcore is being shoved violently back into the 100hp world of 'normal' when it comes to scrim/match time. :p

What can you do in the same server though? I imagine your kdr would be silly in HC. Especially if I ran medic with you. Far easier to kill people and to die but if you are fast enough and in position, easy enough to get it going. His accuracy is pretty average. Kpm and hsk is low. He has played a ton though. Who knows? Maybe his wife was playing on his account last night? lol

gg

Something I just noticed about my stats. The two guns I have have been using the most recently are the aug and the mtar21. With the aug my kpm is 1.54 w/ 17.5% accuracy and the mtar 1.52 with a haxor 34% hsk with a shitty 14.2% accuracy. I guess you can see improvements in your shot if you look at your most recent unlocked guns.

Now THIS guy certainly is a good example of wtf ea? Please report his cheating ass.

Yea, unless you plan on going into a hardcore ladder, it'll screw with your game. Not recommended at all.

I feel very uncomfortable "on the glass". :( There was a little camping going on here and there so it wasn't all run 'n gun. Anytime I want to feel like I'm Mr. Domination I go play TDM on Noshaar or Kharg - I know those maps and patterns inside and out.

Average? I would say freakin' horrible but thanks for being polite. :D It's getting better and I know about the first 400 hours of BF3 I was a spray-n-pray addict.

And no, my wife doesn't play. ;) That's just me, suckin' it up and havin' fun.

THIS. I feel like normal mode should be called universal soldier mode. I rarely play it anymore.

Well I am nice. So is Shiz. He also kept beating me in score last night so methinks we need to play some conquest for a change so I can feel better about myself. Dude is rambo in scavenger and gunmaster.

Was on a tear until the server seemed to kick everyone out and restart. The results of my match don't seem to be being added to my profile...a heap of unlocks and a rank-up. Have I lost that progress? I had about 60 kills and 20 deaths or something.

That's the truth right there, I can't even get close to keeping up with him.
 :D awe thanks guys!

Yep I really like those fast paced gametypes, would be cool if they had the A,B,C,D,E locations of scavenger mode maps mirrored over to a regular conquest mode so you can run with your own loadout. Would make for a really fun game mode with bases so much closer to each other. More killing and less running, kinda like TDM, but there's still objectives to cap which will help reduce camping.

Mattdk, do you have TS?

haunter, whats your BF3 name? this way I can enable try hard mode when I see you in the same server lol. :p

Okay, several hours later and my stats still haven't updated. What the FUCK is the point in having always-on DRM and Battlelog clogging up the computer while BF3 is running if it can't even track stats properly as you go, and lets you lose 20,000+ XP and a heap of unlocks? "Hurrr have to wait until the match is over bro!" Fuck that, fuck BF3, fuck DICE and fuck EA.

Uninstalling.

rofl....we've already gone over this...a few times...if your worried about an IE window being open "clogging up the computer" then you have much bigger problems....LORDY LORDY IE IS SUCKIN UP 100MB OF RAM...WHAT DO I DO.....chill out....

Last time I checked, the objectives and fun were shooting people and making stuff blow up....not watching a tiny number get larger at the end of the match....to each their own I guess.

If he is unlocking weapons or gear it can be frustrating. Which is why unlocks shouldn't exist in such a game and manner in the first place.

It was my best score I've ever had in BF3 so far...and it derped out and gave me no evidence or reward for it, at all. Also I am only Level 34 (should be well into Level 35 but no). Absolutely unacceptable.

just wait till the double xp and play for 10min.

It's uninstalled now. There are just so many things wrong with this game, and I have tried to like it, but having a very rare successful game wiped from my record was the last straw. DICE will never see another dollar of my money.

Happened to me with some really good matches and it crashed. It also never showed up in my stats for me. I still play time to time but i get bored with it fast.

Worst part is that the game is the best fps currently. Yes I agree it is wonky. The trick is to not give a shit and just blow stuff up.
