SimCity V (2013) - screens/artwork and information

the only individual buildings you place are specialty builds which it has always been that way since the first sim city. housing/industrial/business area's are done exactly the same as they were before.

I think he's thinking of SimCity Societies, which was, let's face it, NOT SimCity....

NEW TRAILER

Some new details,
First up, we revealed the first details about the all-new SimCity World feature designed to keep you connected with both your friends and, yep, the world. Whether it’s competing or collaborating in Global Challenges, checking your spot on the leaderboard, buying/selling resources in the Global Market, or keeping tabs on what your friends are up to with CityLog, SimCity World really pops the notion of isolated cities living in a bubble. If you want to learn even more about how SimCity World works, we got you covered - check back here next week for a detailed commentary from the Maxis team. In the meantime, take a look at the sweet new Gamescom trailer to get a first-hand look at SimCity World.

unless you want to play offline or on the go... oh woops, it's a single player game that has no single player. but you can compare your scores to other players! haifive?

apparently we're "living in a bubble" if we want to have local saves. EA games, doing what EA games does best. shitting on your games, and telling you how great it tastes.

ehh :( being a huge sim city fan since the early days.. i really, really want this game to be great. however, i have my doubts.

i realize it's early yet, but it just seems very.. fisher price? fat and clunky, like that last garbage sim city game. i don't want to place individual buildings. do this right, god damnit! back to ze roots!

Same here. The more and more info that spills about this remake, the more I don't want to buy it. Looks like I'll wait a few years until it drops to $10-$15.

By then EA will have shut the servers down and it'll be a dead game.

Going to really suck when this game requires origin to play.

I literally get upset when I see what they have done to SimCity. I spent days of my life as a kid playing SimCity on SNES, then SimCity2k and SimCity 4. I feel the need to visit a shrink to get some pills for the depression.

Looks like it could still be rather entertaining. Here's hoping it doesn't end up terrible.

Something about the graphics in the screenshots really gives it a small scale feel like those model towns you see with model trains or something. Maybe it's just because the overdone DOF effect though.

Yeah I'm not sure I like the DOF either. Unless they are trying to appeal to the kind of people who like to make model train cities; which I wouldn't think there would be that many people in the world. Hopefully it's possible to turn that feature off.

not sure why, everyone should have it by now.

I don't have it but when I buy BF3 in the next month, I guess I will . . .

I really, really want to be excited about this but I'm not. To me, this game is not worth more than $30 brand new.

Origin has been off my computer for 6 months now. It most likely won't ever be back on because EA doesn't seem to have crap in the pipeline.

I think the real problem is that all they have in the pipeline is crap.

My worry with this game is that im going to be nickel and dime'd to death with 100+ cosmetic packs.
Then after buying 1 or 2 im going to realize its not making my game better, but still feel like im missing out on something, get disappointed and stop playing.

Is there going to be anything that keeps me playing after a week? Something that is NOT friking farmville quests?

I second Inu's worries -- how many expansions came out for all of The Sims games? Let's keep it simple, EA.

Or Spore. I really wanted to like that game, but after playing through once, and seeing that the creator WAS the game, I knew it'd be DLCs for ever.
I just want A game, not a franchise unto its own. I'm willing to buy it once, at $60 even, if it means I never have to buy or DL DLC down the road.

spore wasnt bloated with dlc. it had one expansion and one dlc pack thats it.

unless you count free player made content.

True, but a ton was cancelled. I'll see if I can find the links to the story. Basically, Spore didn't catch on in terms of DLC and add-on sales, so they tanked their plans to Sims3 it.

Yeah, the whole DLC thing with EA can be ridiculous. Admittedly, I almost picked up Sims 3 on Steam when it was on sale for something like 66% off. But then I looked at the total for ALL DLC listed and it was still something like $200 for all the ‘expansions’ and DLC packs. I was like WTF?? Regular price for all the packs is just a hair under $420. That’s just retarded…better check out some other places to get all that stuff.

True, but let's forget the cost... consider the sheer quantity of material there. I mean, you'd have had to get in early just to ensure you had a reasonable amount of time to consume all of that. Even if you bought it all now, there's no way you'd get to all of it.

I can't wait to try and join a friend's region and get a nice little screen informing me I need to purchase the Victorian London Steampunk, Post-Modern Swedish and Classical Japanese tile sets to view their cities.

Steampunk's all the rage though. Best buy it now so your friends can see how cool you are. :D

oh I'm sure you'll be able to see them, that's how they get you. you'll be all like, "wow, those buildings are super awsome looking, now I want the steampunk dlc so I can make them too!".

which means more than likely all of these assets will be occupying drive space in every install, just that you'll be denied from using them unless they're unlocked through origin or somesuch. standard practice for their mp dlc, it's not like the sims where you're collecting a constant flow of trinkets for sp only, they'll be marketing the shit out of this through the forced multiplayer.

I can't wait for the game, I hope they do tons of DLC cause apparently most people can't resist buying it. This means they will keep the game going longer so people like me who can easily just say no to DLC can play for longer and enjoy the game. I can't wait I hope I have enough friends play to have a region. Or hope there is a H region to join.

DLC isn't helping BF3 any. Been out for a little over 2 years, and still no proper VOIP for PC.

EDIT: Then again i suppose it depends on what you personally want.

I think you're off by a year :D, BF3 came out October 2011. It's just over a year old. I don't think BF3's DLC is really comparable anyways. It fragmented the community. If you don't have it, you are excluded from paying with a large number of people. Assuming DLC in SimCity will be new buildings and crap, not having it won't (read: shouldn't) exclude you from playing in the same universe as players who do. So if DLC keeps people playing, it can help keep the community larger for longer, even for the players who are content to just keep playing the base game. Now, say they add a DLC to go settle Mars or something, this could have the same effect as BF3 DLC. Half the community would move onto the new shit, leaving the players passing on the DLC with half the community they are used to.

I like the look of this game a lot, but I don't like the sound of the always-online bit. I just want to play by myself in my own little world. Not a chance would I buy this game until I can see how the community is going to play out.

I am looking forward to SimCity 5 and will defenietly be getting it Day 1.

We should defenitely have a [H] Region.

I will run the region precinct, run a monopoly coporate and call it HardOCP! /end robocop reference

Freaky, anyone else we know getting it? I think it would be awesome for us to keep the group playing, I dunno what kind of games Arr is into tho...

I'm definitely getting Sim City V. The graphics look amazing and from what I've seen so far, the gameplay appears to be the same.

Did it ever say how large the size of the regions are? Are they large enough to handle [H] ?
