Warm? Windows 8 Pro 69.99 OfficeMax

It is not what you think it is. The only retail copy of Windows 8 Pro is the upgrade version. (Office Max carries only retail copies of Microsoft products.) Full, non-upgrade copies of Windows 8 are now sold only as "System Builder" copies, sold through select resellers of major core computer hardware (and also requires the purchase of one or more of the following core pieces of hardware: motherboard and CPU, hard drive/SSD, graphics card, RAM - in order for the System Builder license to be legitimate).

I went into Frys and bought the full copy of windows without buying any hardware

Windows 8 blows. firefox always locks up, Live Mail locks up. Hell when I click on Mail tab it justs sits there. No option to do anything.

Coldest deal considering this Windows sucks. never uninstalled a windows so fast.

Lets not turn this into another one of "those" windows 8 threads.

Pretty good deal if you want it.

Why not? Who do you think you are? Stop trying to tell others what they can/can't discuss. I paid $10 for Windows 8 and regret it. If the product sucks then why try to hide it? It's in no way shape or form a good deal.

If you're all riled up about spending $10 as an early adopter for something you ended up not being in love with, you're probably in the wrong hobby ;) No offense. All I was saying is that the topic has been discussed ad nauseam so there's no need to thread crap in this forum with the same blithering pablum everyone's heard before. And believe it or not, the fact of windows 8 being hit-or-miss means that a good number of people actually like it!

Anyway, If you missed out on the promotional launch upgrade prices and amazon deals last year this is probably as good a deal as you'll find.

I finally burned out tantrumming about Metro and realized I don't care anymore. If you're in the habit of Sleeping your PC then once you click desktop in Metro you'll never see it again. Either get a start menu replacement like StartIsBack or do like me and just pin your most used apps to the taskbar or desktop.

I cannot go back to Win7 because there are a few killer features that make it worth the upgrade - SMB3.0 specifically, the SMB Multichannel feature that spreads transfers across multiple NICs - something no other o/s besides server2012 currently supports in the same way.

Microsoft can be forgiven if they enhance Metro for keyboard/mouse better, and they need to incentivize it with a few killer Metro-exclusive apps as well. Thry wouldn't dare launch a new Xbox without some killer launch titles and yet that's what theyve failed to do with metro.

This is a terrible deal for an unneeded, terrible OS.
Sometimes i think folks run out and buy the newest thing just because it's the newest thing.
It's been shown time and time again Windows 8 runs 99.5% of all games slower than it's predecessor, which personally is not only a step backwards, but someone needs to inform Microsoft that desktops are not tablets. Oh, but you can fix it with a community hack, amazing! Exactly what i was looking for in a brand new OS in 2013..

New operating systems should mean better memory management across the board, better multi-threading support, lighter footprint, better UI's, and it damned well better run games more efficiently or you fail at what it is you do as the largest monopoly of operating systems in the world.

And charging anything over $49 bucks for your new version of bloatware is ridiculous.

Thanks for the heads up OP, but i'll pass.

ive used that copy to do a clean install so if its an upgrade it allowed me to clean my C drive and do a fresh install

This is the Hot Deals forum, not the OS forum. Rage quit somewhere else

OP link is the Win 8 pro upgrade - $67 at Amazon
Win 8 System Builder is $95
Win 8 System Builder Pro is $140
MS has said its phased out Win 8 Pro
I have never tried the upgrade pro, but from what I have seen in forums it does seem to install full with just about anything, XP Vista Win 7 X86 X64
I also hate Metro, but there are many Metro replacing apps so when you boot up the old start page/desktop is there - like
ClassicShellSetup_3_6_2 and can recommend this program, its free from sourceforge.net .

Same thing was said about XP when it came out...and it took more than a "community hack" to fix it. It took either SP1 or SP2.

That said, this isn't a great deal. For upgrades, the best deal was when Egg had it for $30.00 after rebate. I'd just buy a $39 upgrade from MS and use an old XP license to install it. If its not good, it's $40.00. That's the price of a decent heat sink.

Frankly, I think Windows 8 is better suited for desktop (with mouse and keyboard) than all previous versions of Windows! Honestly, I don't understand what you are talking about but in any case, I think as other posters mentioned this is not the right forum for this kind of discussion.

PS: I didn't say Windows 8 is perfect or, cannot be improved in many ways.
