I have not been following the news on the upcoming Aliens CoOp shooter. Is it set up like Left 4 Dead gameplay ? 4 players going through the game together ?

Uses the Unreal 3.5 engine ?

Release date still next month ?

Whats the buzz or early reviews ?

Not quite like L4D, though it does have four-player co-op and a few different modes, like survival, horde-type, and objective based etc.

Early buzz has been, unfortunately, less-than-stellar. Check Rock Paper Shotgun for their preview and just search for previews on the game. Visually, it looks great. Apparently the feel and gameplay however, from the previews, is not exactly great. Thus far, anyway, unless they tweak something before release.

A few previews had the same things to say, RPS and one other 'zine, I cant remember which (Eurogamer, I think), had said practically the same things. The aliens are too weak (even in multiplayer), and feel like they're "in the background" regarding the game. They don't feel like a threat.

That is disappointing to hear. This was going to be a day one purchase for me. I guess not now. I have great memories from the old game. I'll check out the reviews this weekend.
 
Sucks to hear this. I was expecting Aliens; CM, to be a sci/fi version of Left 4 Dead. But it may be a Duke Nukem Forever L4D :confused:

Yep.

Besides that, its a sequel to the 1986 Aliens movie so if you are a fan, you gotta get it. Otherwise you are a lamer & nobody likes those guys.

Extremely, especially given how much of an Alien freak I am personally, and many others, who've been waiting for an actually good current gen game.

As I've said, the MP is also a problem and covered in those articles. From the previews, for the most part (with maybe slight exception with couple of small things), it's just not implemented alone, and the MP was not a really good experience for those who had the chance to preview it. It's not worth buying strictly for the MP by any stretch as it stands now.

I love games set in this universe so I'm on board day 1.

L4D still Alien game sounds like heaven to me.

Except as they said above, this game will not be L4D in the Aliens universe. :(

I was SOOO excited for this game, but now I will definitely be waiting it out to see what others think.

You know how sometimes you just get a sense that a game is going to suck despite how much you WANT it to be good... yeah, I get that vibe from this game.

That really sucks. I looked at the game casually a little while back, the ability to weld doors shut, set up defensive turrets and other base defense style tactics looked like a really cool new addition to co-op survivial style gaming.
 
Gearbox should just worry about pumping out more Borderlands content and expanding that universe, since its a money-printing machine.
 
I'm keeping an eye on this game.....

BTW, on the engine, it uses two engines, somehow, it uses "Red Ring" gaming engine as well as Unreal Engine 3 with a new renderer. They used the film production assets to design the environments for this game.
 
I love the Alien universe...even the Alien movies after Aliens 3 were somewhat decent and had its moments...hell I even enjoyed the Aliens vs Predator game from 2010
 
i almost preorderd it last night but i couldnt bring my self to do it.

One thing that puzzles me is how do you make a sequel to a movie where most of the characters in your game were killed off?:confused:

Pretty sure they are allowed to make new characters... I could be wrong though :p

I hear the writers on-board are pretty good, so I'm looking forward to the game for that alone. Maybe if we're lucking it's not just a bunch of grunts with no personalities blasting wads of aliens, but I pretty much expect that at this point. :(

If there are puzzles and strategy elements like the previous poster described, that would be sweet. And if there are characters like in Aliens, a little bit cheesy and some feminine perspectives, that would be extra sweet. I hate one dimensional games nowadays.
 
PC Gamer's latest preview on it was kind of ho-hum. I hope the game is going to be good.

im still hoping for the best for this game. im going to be getting regardless.
but honestly, aliens fans are not liking most aspects of the game.

Hmm boiler kind of makes sense....I mean their blood is acidic so maybe they have evolved a way to spit it. Hell I don't know maybe radiation mutated it.....

Alien Hybrid in the second pic? Hmm looks kinda silly, could fit into the storyline as a military project that got loose, all throughout the movies they have been wanting to make one.

their is already an alien in the game that spits acid, the spitter.

the boiler is the equivalent of the boomer from l4d, there is a video showing that the boiler basically rips its own face off and explodes.

it hasn't been stated whether the boiler will actually be playable or not. and yes, it is supposed to be mutated from the radiation pools.

the alien in the second pic is the lurker, a class played in multiplayer.
if im not mistaken the human skull look was actually one of h r gigers designs for the original alien.
it just reminds me too much of this atrocity.

I'd love some 4vs4 versus action, but that's not going to happen i fear, atleast not from gearbox software, they should stick to borderlands and stop ruining other IPs, first DNF ( it wasn't THAT bad but still ....) now aliens ? cmon :(
 
Initially seemed like they were aiming for L4D clone, thought I don't really look forward for this game. I am sorry, but it had to be out in 2007.

The more we've learned about the game since then, the more I was disgusted by Gearbox and Randy in particular. So many years and not a single good game so far. I am not going to give them any money again. I wish I could transfer the sum I paid for DNF to it's actual creators.

Last time I checked, they're aiming at movie like experience lol. Bunch of suckers.

I "think" if you preorder you can play as the original Aliens characters but they are MP skins only.

This is it here. I am also a huge alien fan and WANT the game to be the alien game i dreamed about. I have a feeling its gonna suck, game over man.
 
Lot of hate for a game that no one here has even played yet...

I enjoyed the 2010 AvP quite a bit...I think I'll be pleased with this. Pre-ordered for $35 or something awhile back, so I think I'll get my money's worth in any case.
 
Precisely. Most of us love the movie but this is supposed to be a game and I believe it's marketed as one.
 
I take it, this is from the Human aspect and no chance of playing an Alien? Man I loved the old one.
