Did anyone ever read PNY's "Lifetime Warranty" policy? It says the warranty is good for the lifetime of the product...ok, BUT...once they stop selling the product and can't replace it with an identical model, your warranty is no good. It expressly states that they won't "upgrade" your card with a newer model if they don't have any more of the one you have. So how long is your warranty really good for? 2 years tops?

What a joke.

Asus does the same thing but doesn't brand it as a lifetime warranty. If they don't have your exact card in stock they won't replace it.

PNY's warranty is pretty bad. It does explicitly say "for the lifetime of the product" yadda yadda in the book but you dont get to see that until you buy and open the box and read the actual manual. They shouldn't be allowed to put limited lifetime warranty on the box because it's too deceiving.

Back in the day they had a real lifetime warranty and people were hanging on to their Geforce 3 and geforce 4 cards with a kung fu grip and replacing them like crazy so I assume they made the changes to not go the way of BFG

Are you new to warranty's? It's the same with just about everything you buy that comes with a "lifetime" warranty.

I sent in a fried GTX 460 under warranty to PNY and they shipped me back a GTX 470. So, no, the card may not be exactly the same if they don't have that particular card. but they will try to send you a card that is about the same speed or better.

Not exactly. If you buy a new card from PNY and a couple months later they discontinue that GPU completely, they can (and have in the past) denied warranty.

But recently I have been seeing more things like this. They might be turning over a new leaf, but they would still be very far down on the list of companies I would buy anything from because of their track record.

I tried Registering for their lifetime warranty the page seems to not work for me. I enter all the info in click proceed and it blinks back to the same page. No emails either, just purchased a gtx 670 from them.

sorry but this claim is 100% not true. if you have the lifetime warranty the PNY will most certainly replace your card with an equivalent or better card if your card has been discontinued. you can even give them a call if you dont believe it. and in my personal experience they are a very easy company to deal with and care about their customers. they do need to need to change the wording on their warranty though as it leads to comments or threads like this on occasion.

Lifetime Warranty for XLR8™ GeForce® GTX Series

PNY Technologies, Inc. ("PNY") expressly warrants this Graphics Card (product) to be free from defects in
materials and workmanship for a period of One year (*will be extended for the lifetime of the original purchaser upon completion
of a registration form on PNY's website ) from the date of sales receipt as sold to the original purchaser ("purchaser"), subject to
all the terms and conditions hereunder.

That said, I recently purchased the PNY GTX 670 and would not recommend to for anyone else. The warranty is great and all, but the stock/reference cooler on the GTX 670 is fucking terrible. Pardon my french. It is extremely loud and really irritating. I've purchased an Accelero Twin Turbo II for it, but of course I'll likely void the warranty in the process (there is an anti-tamper seal on one of the HSF mounting screws that I'll have to break).

I doubt not seeing the actual warranty details until purchase will pass EU law, if they offer lifetime warranty here.

Not with companies who actually care about keeping their customers. For example, you can send in any beat up old Leathermann tool and they will replace it with a current model. They offer "only" 25 year warranty (at least last time I bought one in mid 90's) and with the company not being more than 25 years old you don't need a receipt either.

the reference cooler has nothing to do with PNY. you should have looked at reviews because it was made pretty clear that the reference cooler is junk and can be noisy.

This is exactly why lifetime warranties are not allowed in the EU, most lifetime warranty manufacturers there use a 10 year warranty as a substitute if they're trying to get close to that.

It has everything to do with the PNY GTX 670 I purchased which uses that shitty cooler. Reading comprehension. PNY made not have designed the cooler, but their card uses it thus I would not recommend this particular card to others.

Wow, that's a shame. I shy away from time to time from EVGA cards for good deals I find, but really EVGA has some of the best customer support in the business.

the wording is basically there just so they can legally deny an RMA claim. though i think its mostly there just to keep people from trying to RMA a nvidia 8 series GPU and expecting them to just have another 8 series laying around to return. which in that case i have no issues with the way they worded it, not that hard to just contact them and ask either way.

there are a lot of tool companies that do that, but the tech industry is a whole different ball game compared to things like that.

blame Nvidia NOT PNY. PNY puts their sticker on it just like EVERY other company using the reference cooler. and again all you had to do is look at reviews to see the cooler was crappy.

Look, it doesn't matter who you feel is to blame. The fact is, the PNY 670 has a shitty (yes, reference) cooler on it. Despite the FUD in the OP, PNY does offer a life time warranty on their graphics cards. And despite that warranty, I would expressly recommend against purchasing their GTX 670 because the cooler is shit and replacing it with something more bearable would result in the voiding of that warranty.

I have no doubt that other reference cards would share the same fate. I'm only commenting on PNY's warranty and it's value in the case of the 670 they sell.

yeah you could simply say that you dont recommend getting ANY reference gtx670. Nvidia really cut corners on the reference cooler which seems silly since they were already making a killing selling the little gk104 for high end prices.

Then you have to go read about how it defines "Lifetime Warranty." Here's what I read:

LIFETIME WARRANTY
PNY Technologies, Inc. ("PNY") warrants the product, to be free from defects in materials and workmanship for
the life of the product as sold to the original purchaser ("purchaser"), subject to all the terms and conditions
hereunder. This warranty is for replacement for like items only. Lifetime replacement warranty does not cover
items out of production if the company no longer stocks them. (Lifetime is defined as the lifetime of the product
on the market. Outdated technology is not covered by lifetime warranty if the item is no longer available on the
common market as a new product.)This warranty is not assignable.

I hope you're right, but a casual read of the warranty leads you to believe you're screwed as soon as the card goes EOL. I'm not trying to cause trouble necessarily. I just read it and thought that didn't sound too "Lifetime" to me.

Same thing happened to me. I tried, but no luck. Maybe I'll try again today if I get a chance.

Edit: I just tried again, and it tells me that the serial number I entered isn't valid. I copied it right off the sticker where it said "Serial Number."

I had a PNY 770 XLR8 4GB card fail (fan died). Forgot to register it when I bought it in 2013, but they still took it anyways with invoice. Replacing with a 1070 Ti. Turn around time was 2 weeks.

That's a crazy upgrade, almost 2.5x faster in gflops. I'd've expected a 970/1060 as being equivalent performing slightly newer parts.

Yeah me too, I was expecting a 1050 Ti actually. The card arrives tomorrow so I'm crossing my fingers that it's not an error.

every reputable company upgrades you to a comparable product. XFX has done this for me so many times.

Better have a pic!

PNY made the RMA really easy and I had it back in just under 2 weeks.

just more marketing BS

Be wise ... buy EVGA
What's marketing BS?

I'm describing my experience with PNY's lifetime warranty in a thread about PNY's lifetime warranty. Not sure what the issue is.

I have an EVGA PSU that I had to RMA before and they are also very good.

I ought to have been more concise regarding whose comment I was responding to; it was in response to the OP's original comment, not yours (I did not quote you in my reply; why you thought I was replying to your comment eludes me at the moment).

A lifetime warranty on a product that will be outdated in 2-3 years and then replaced by a card of lesser value after that is bunk because a five year warranty on a GPU gaming card is every bit as effectual as a lifetime warranty, hence ... lifetime warranty on a gaming GPU card is marketing BS, oh I forgot; in the business they call it "clever marketing" but I call it what it is - attempting to deceive the customers (same as when they lie about specs or don't post info buyers need in order to make a smart buying decision).

with EVGA it's a 3 year warranty on GPU's, phone tech support is free and 24/7 (takes me 5 minutes or less after dialing to reach a tech) and they have a cross-ship program. No other company comes close - period. My buying EVGA, now THAT's a smart buying decision ;)

So I'm glad a few of you experienced what you think is stellar Customer Service (two weeks is not fast, EVGA often ships your return within 2-4 days and sooner if you cross ship) but I'm sticking to EVGA

good to know.. i currently have a PNY 1050ti XLR8 because it was the cheapest one available during the height of the mining craze crap.. love the card and glad to see their customer support is that good.
