Steam 2012 Christmas sale is here! runs from Dec 20- Jan 6

Well, I finally got the Far Cry 3 sale that I've been waiting for all sale long. Unfortunately, it's still $38....Looks like I'll be waiting a while longer.

You can always find a couple FC3 game keys from people on the For Sale section. I bought one last week for $17, awsome purchase.

people where cheating making multiple accounts using games bought via the humble bundle deals then sending all the gifts to the same person
Also sharing game saves to get achievements, to get more coal, to get more free games.

I think i'm up to around 160+ games now. Didnt buy much this year though did get around 6-8 games so far. Witcher 2 i could'nt pass up.Glad i waited as i was going to get it last year but thought with my back log i could wait haha.

Got burned on mark of the Ninja buying it 2 days ago for around $12 i believe on Steam.

Hard to find anything to buy with all the damage i've done from past holiday sales over the years.

This Christmas sale I haven't bought one game yet. Last years sale I spent $200.00.

I'm right there with you, except I'm starting to realize that even though this sale has been a "disappointment," I shouldn't be disappointed. I saved a load of money this year (good thing since I spent a fat wad on Christmas for the family) and the sale didn't entice me to add a ton of games to my backlog so I can continue knocking that out.

It's almost as if Valve did me a favor.

Would I want every sale to be like this one? Not really...past Steam sales have been epic and are talked about like major historical events. :p So I'd like to see another barn burner but this year...I'm OK with how things turned out.

If you have the Ultimate Edition, can you just use the texture pack for TA? Or do you need both? I'm confused since all the DA content is in TA and I only have HRG 2.0 installed.

Thanks for the links by the way. I remember getting the mods off the GCII website or Moddb in the past.

It was a flash sale for 50% off, $7.49 early this week....(I didn't buy it in time that day....ended up starting up the WTF on it just before it ended and by the time I wanted to buy it, the flash sale had ended).
It failed to win the voting a few days later to be a repeat flash sale but I figured (judging by the fact that most of the games that have been flash sales this year have eventually been a daily deal)....it'd pop up as a daily deal for the same 50% off, $7.49 price.

Sure enough, today. :)
Always wait, man....the rule of the Steam sale.

The only thing I have left on my wish list is Triple Town and since that hasn't moved at all or been offered up as a flash sale, I don't think that one will drop any cheaper. Oh well....I'll continue playing it on my SGS3 and wait for the inevitable 50% off sale at some point next year if that's the case. ;) Otherwise I think I'm done this year....most of the rest I already own, bought cheaper elsewhere, or will wait 'til it drops more. Amazon certainly beat Steam this year which is good because it's nice to see other sites push out the competition.

Back to FTL while Mark of the Ninja finishes downloading. :D Now my library's up to 260, my Recent list is 61. Some of those are just 'archival' purposes and stuff I wanted to own again that I used to before.

^ I wouldn't recommend getting A-10 thru Steam...the Steam version doesn't really get the support the standalone version gets.

Plug the CD key into DCS World. I've had the game for months but never even bothered with installing it from Steam. Skip Steam entirely, just grab the $10 price (if still active), take the CD key and plug it into World.

I just wish they had some of the insane events like finding tf2 or css items in game. Got a couple free games and coupons last year. Gave them away to friends so they could play.

With 2 minutes left on the clock, I buckled and grabbed 3DMark11.

Looks like I have some serious OC-ing work to do.

I keep wanting to pick up Dungeons of Dredmor for $1.24, but I honestly don't know when I would play it. Seems pretty cool for the price, though.

Pulled the trigger on Far Cry 3. Its not as cheap as I wanted it but I want to play it and for a pretty new game, 37 bucks is not so bad. I would have bought it of the for sale here in the forum but I really want it on either steam or gmg.

Wait, was 3dmark11 75% off earlier? I see it's 50% until the sale ends, guess I missed it.

The new 3dmark is due out in January, so 3dmark11 will probably cheap all over the internet in a few weeks.

Havent found too much I want. Picked up Just Cause 2 for $3 and FINALLY caught Prototype on sale for $5. Ive been playing it since last night and it is fun but I was right to wait for it to get down below $10. Nothing to write home about. Cool powers and stuff but it gets really repetitive really quick and youre just running from one all out brawl to the next. Still definitely worth it at <$10.

You won't be disappointed. I've got 19 hours alone in just singleplayer. Never boring or dull; lots of fun. My vote for GOTY

30 bucks for Skyrim then another 12.50 for the DLC? Fuck that. I don't want to play it that badly, especially now that it has been out for a long time and they're still trying to squeeze 60 per copy out of it new + 25 for the DLC. Blow me Bethesda.

Really? $30 is too much for countless hours of fun? Ok. I spent more on it in the spring sale. Just bought the DLC in this one, and it's money well spent.

The point is that the game is old and should be cheaper. Their discounts are always on the full price when that game should cost $30 by now without discounts. Only 2 games never seem to go that much down, skyrim and the newest call of duty

I have to agree on Skyrim... I have 125 hours played and I put all that in in the first 2 months... great game that I paid full price for and enjoyed.

I picked up the DLC on sale... it's a blast.

Most of my purchases this Xmas sale have been cheap indie's or dlc... really enjoying FTL and Grimlock, also like Deadlight so far. About to pick up Mark of the Ninja and Gal Civ 2... have a disk somewhere but cheap enough on steam.

nobody is being a bitch but you dude.

I dont even like the game or will ever buy it, but for its age its expensive. Just because a game has over 100 hours in it doesnt mean it doesnt come down in price, otherwise final fantasy 7 would still cost 50 bucks.

Sometimes awesome games like Just Cause 2 are available for 75% off 2 months after they are released.
Sometimes awesome games like Skyrim don't see deep discounts for nearly a year.
Sometimes shitty rehashed games like CoD remain at full price for way the hell too long.

Just how it is for a PC gamer. Usually we get the benefit of picking a great game up for peanuts just a few months after it comes out, but there are occasions when we don't. Still better than consoles.

FWIW, I've never played Skyrim but I would have to think that if it's as great as most people say it is, it's still well worth $30...if I was the guy buying it then sure, I'd rather it be $10 or $15 but think of the dozens of hours you'll get out of Skyrim for $30 vs. that $30 being spent elsewhere (ONE cheap dinner for two at a decent restaurant or one two-hour movie with a small popcorn & drink).

Age doesn't matter. They won't lower the regular price until sales numbers drop to a certain level. Skyrim is still a goldmine for Bethesda.

I am sure it is worth $30 but all I was saying is that COD and Skyrim dont see deep reductions even when they are oldish. I dont really care if they do because I am not interested in either.

Just picked up Mass Effect 2 for $5. That is a steal IMO for one of the best games of 2010. I'll start it after finishing KOTOR.

*whoosh* 200 hours of my life gone.

Just to confirm before I break my budget and get the GTA pack :p Is it ok to run GTA 4 on older quad core CPU like my Cire i7 930? In the past I've heard it had some performance issues.

keep view distance and especially shadows turned down a bit and it will help a lot. with max shadows even my 2500K at 4.4 takes a crap and gets the same low framerate at 800x600 as it does at 1920x1080 in some areas.

I played through it on an OC'ed i7 920 with no issues. There is no reason that a 930 should have trouble playing it.

I noticed putting shadows to VERY HIGH killed the fps crazy....but leaving shadows to HIGH made all the difference in the world....it was crazy how much FPS I got back

Don't get me wrong, you're still going to stutter and lag here and there....but I would say the shadows setting was the setting you definitely want to tune down, in order to keep your FPS
