Dell U2713HM

all you crazy kids with the ocd about perfection...

very grateful.. I am not conscious of the granularity.. you crazy kids are..

I <3 my 2713 /huggles

the ag is very minimal.. i was worried.. coming form the glossy Crossover and fine with the gloss.. but no.. the 2713 is all I had hoped for and more!

I agree completely - there seems to be a large combination of OCD, idiocy, and aspergers around various forums concerning monitors. Whatever. Dead pixels and blb are deal breakers for me, but IPS glow that isn't noticeable under normal use..yeah ok..... reading some of the stories around here are truly hilarious.

That is a perfect example of IPS glow, mixing with a small bit of backlight bleed.

I wish they would bring back the A-TW filter. Here is my NEC (with A-TW) compared to my old 17" TN LCD. Note that TN glows too. But IPS with A-TW doesn't.

That isn't IPS glow. That is having brightness turned all the way up, lol.

I turned brightness to 100 and the screen isn't 100% black in a dark room guys, what do? Aspergers.

Incorrect, don't make assumptions when you don't have all the information.

Both screens were adjusted to 140 cd/m2. Near their minimum and while it isn't IPS glow (because it isn't IPS), it is the same kind of issue on a TN screen and the glow is only from viewing angle.

Here is a shot of the same from straight on, and both angles. As you can see in the straight on shot, both are well balanced without glow until the viewing angle changes.

try a tn with a-tw polariser and then compare. if 8bit tn with a-tw polarisers were made i'm sure theyd give ips a run for its money

If your normal use is in a dim/dark room with with material with a lot of dark/black portions, you are probably too blind to drive if you don't notice it.

IPS Glow is infinitely more annoying than a single dead pixel on one of these screens.

As far as I can tell, your experience was with glossy and defective catleaps and auriya monitors. Apparently the yellow splotches on your auriya was IPS glow and suddenly since you've owned two crap korean IPS panels that is indicative of a broad problem. Tell us more. It's not like you chose a bottom of the barrel, shit brand for your IPS monitors, that definitely wasn't the issue. Nope, all IPS panels have IPS glow and it's a huge issue with all ips panels.

The CG246 has something that helps but not A-TW? Looks pretty good though:

Yeah, there are some high end monitors that still seem to have A-TW or equivalent.

To be more precise I guess I should have said, I wish they would bring back A-TW in more affordable monitors.

I commented on the CG246 when Denis posted a teaser image showing lack of glow:

Anywho, to get back on the wonderful topic of the 2713HM I just ordered one from Dell Small Business. I originally went to the Dell Outlet and was going to order one from there for 599. After talking to the sales rep I ended up getting a brand new one for 569.00 + tax. After my $200 gift card my total cost was 408.37 for this bad boy. Should be here on Tuesday. :)

Why does it bother you that we should dare complain about what we thought was backlight bleed in our brand new $800 monitors? I had no idea it was IPS glow. Were you born with this knowledge?

I dont think he's complaining, I wasn't. I understand passion.. I get it. I enjoy watching folk's passion for their monitor..play out here. we just dont have that specific passion.. but certainly share equal ocd like qualities about other passions of mine!

Dells and Apple Cinema Displays certainly have IPS glow.

Read any review on them, no one fails to mention it. IPS glow doesn't magically disappear when the panel is in a "name brand" as its a fault of the technology used to make the panel, which all of these displays share.

My LG-IPS TV has IPS glow too, it had to be moved to a room that is never dark because it was just horrible. Also you can hardly call dell a "quality brand", their saving grace is a warranty that lets you exchange until you get something that doesn't have an issue(I've seen dead pixel, back-light bleeding, and uniformity issues mentioned in this thread repeatedly. It's very clear Dell doesn't care to QC their displays).

On a different subject. Has anyone tried this out for PC gaming at 720p? I'm limited to relatively short length half height cards, so playing at the native resolution is out for anything demanding.

It is not ideal. I'd rather play with no AA since the resolution compensates. The interpolation on 1080 isn't bad with this monitor so maybe try 1080 instead?

Also, @ person using lagom for changes in sharpness, why? I think based on TFTCentral, Prad, and other review sites, the sharpness settings for the monitor are okay out of the box?

There's always a combination of idiocy and aspergers around various monitor forums, and experts even though I don't own one and instead opted for a cheap piece of shit, its great :)

Look whos talking, the guy who told me the glow on the picture of my monitors was from being turned up to 100%.

So I hope you were referring to yourself.

Has anyone said definitively that they are happy with the Dell over a korean, someone who actually has both for a reasonable length of time?

I am considering a Crossover 27Q with glass because I have a few cats and my screen gets filthy in just a month.

My old lcd failed this week so I was looking at it under a bright light and the amount of junk that you can just never clean off the screen is scary compared to my old FW900 glass CRT.

I had couple Catleaps that had issues and had to be returned. Aside from the defects, I thought the Catleap screen was really nice. I used to prefer glossy screens, but after using the PB278Q and U2713HM, I definitely prefer light AG coating now. The PB278Q has better AG coating than the U2713HM (no minor crosshatching), but I like the colors on the Dell more. Light AG coating > Glossy >>>>>>> Heavy AG.

Aside from that, having an OSD is great, and the adjustability of the monitor is a nice bonus. Considering that I got the U2713 for around $500, I definitely don't mind paying the extra $100-200 for a monitor with no dead pixels, a real warranty, and the benefits of AG + Adjustments + other features. In fact, I'm really glad my 2 Catleaps died (got a refund) and that I ended up with the Dell instead.

yep.. definitively.. I came from a Crossover.. catleap line.. was great.. until it died..

have had my U2713HM now almost a week.. I could not be more satisfied!

( I also upgraded to a MSI GTX680 Lightening this week.. so the two.. pure visual joy! )

I Paid $699 for my Dell, so.. ya.. twice as much.. but I have real security in having advanced shipment warranty..

Still waiting for a semblance of a contribution from you to this thread instead of insults and idiotic comments.

so i was playing planetside earlier, noticed a bunch of.. circular 'blotches' on my screen. only seem to be visible on bright, grayish backgrounds, but they're all over the place. i don't like it

anybody else see this?

Hm, weird, do they look like a dust spot or smth?

i almost wanna say it's just the game.. i can't reproduce it anywhere else. but wtf? why would a game purposely do this?

well, that was a scare. i made out pretty well with this panel.. i didn't want that to be real hah. so i guess there's a time of day in planetside that puts gray blotches all over your screen. nice.

I'm pretty sure my panel doesn't have that unless I am not seeing it  You didn't see it when you got it, right?

Play the exchange game IMO.

no, no.. it's not the panel. it's gotta be the game. should have made that more clear in my post haha. i alt-tabbed for awhile after i took that picture.. then hooked up my 2007wfp, and it was gone. switched back over to the 2713.. still gone. scared the shit outta me though. my panel is damn near perfect.

I was able to price match this to $556.90 + tax by calling into Dell Small Business the last time the Australia site had this price.

Hope others can have similar luck this time! :)

I was able to get them to get this price the other day without it being price matched by Dell SB. I briefly dropped the hint that it was this price a couple weeks ago and was walking away from the 599 price they quoted me and he got approval to knock an extra $50 off.

So keep trying and good luck with your deal hunting!

Looks like I'll be joining the U2713HM club come Thursday, they got it out extra fast.

Took two hours of calling on and off to finally get a price match, it was like pulling teeth. Each one finally was lower than the previous.

Don't bother calling in the early morning (8am) try midday instead, in the morning it sounded like they were all going to the same manager to get approval and then later on in the day they were referring to something called a "price desk" where they pm or call to get the lower price authorized.

Also early in the morning I could not understand their accents and later in the day it got easier.

Is it just me or do they all sound unhappy working there? I felt bad for them.

Remember the gift card bonus ends the 28th, so buy the card before then to get the 3 months on the bonus. You can definitely use a 500+90 and do not have to use the 400. The limit is 3 methods of payment total.

I just talked to two support agents in our EPP website. Neither will allow a price match to another country. Going to ping our rep directly.

Yeah they wouldn't let me do that either yesterday, they've caught on.

Amazon @ $559 was the trick. But it's $650 there now today, so they caught on too.

Even with showing them it's the exact same extended part number at Amazon I got nonsense like "oh that will be refurbished" and "oh that doesn't have a warranty". It's like all the AOL callcenter people found a new job at Dell.

Just use the bag that they shipped it in, slap it over the top and it will be right :p

Not from frisky cats it won't. I wish I could get the 3M privacy screen as plain glass. I think as a dustcover I will temporarily use a pillowcase but will search for better material to make my own.

Poor kitties are used to sleeping on my FW900. That thing was indestructable and they loved the heat from it in the winter.

I just received the monitor today! I didn't get much of a deal (had to go through a local European distributor), but...

NO YELLOWING OR BACKLIGHT BLEED
ZERO DEAD PIXELS
NO HUM (tested, it's completely silent)
NO IMAGE RETENTION PROBLEMS
PASSES EVERY SINGLE PIXEL WALK TEST WITH FLYING COLORS
And of course NO PULSE WIDTH MODULATION! :D

Manufactured in September, received unopened.

Simply fantastic colors and response time, excellent build quality, the semi matte surface couldn't be more perfect. The size, the resolution.... I don't know what else to say. :)
