Post Your Mac Setup!

Seriously?

Would you really rather use the Magic Mouse over the trackpad?

I've spent a month with these,

and I found the Magic Mouse is great for scrolling (both vertical and horizontal), but it sucks for pointing and left clicking/right clicking (compared to any laser gaming mouse, say Logitech G9). It also sucks for long-term use (1+ hours) because you have to hover your fingers instead of letting your entire palm rest on the mouse. Anyway, those were my findings, so I'm just curious if you prefer the Magic Mouse over a trackpad. Personally, I'd use the latter over the former.

Sooooo. I'm in for a rMBP today. Will probably be a couple weeks a least till it gets here but I'm excited. Will be my first Mac. Will post a pic when I get it.

They are both awesome displays.

Very nice setup. Thinking of doing something similar (depending how I like the portrait view). Question on the U2412m stand though. Did you use the stand that came with it and just angle it down so it had that low profile look? Just was curious as to how you did that, thanks.

not much of a "setup" for my mac, it's a retina, right now it's for mobile use and not really integrated into the main setup.

My "workstation" is a MacBook Pro 13" 2.3Ghz i5, 8GB, 320GB, OS X 10.7.5 that I keep wrapped up in a Speck case.

When I'm on campus (grad student), it lives here:

Yay tiny office. Stuff includes Dell 2005fpw, Logitech G15 + M570 + M518, and Sennheiser 280s.

When I work from home, it hooked into either the center or right monitor of this (depending on how much reading I need to do):

Stuff includes Dell 2405fpw/2005fpw, Logitech G11 + M570, Marantz SR-68 + JBL L86 + Sennheiser 570s.

Here's my setup, with pretty ugly labels.

What head phones are those you're having? They look curious.. since they're wireless and then there's only an Air, iPhone and iPad, no transimtter box, they could be bluetooth. Very nice setup by the way and cute wallpaper. :)

thx buddy, the white headphones r just Monster Beats HD Solo's.... there is a red cable that runs to the macbook air but i took it out from the photo cuz i don't like visible wires in my photos heh, cheers

I had one of those mice (still do; it's in my desk drawer.) I didn't find it very comfortable to use for more then two, maybe three hours daily. Hand cramps, and wrist cramps were common after that length of time. YMMV of course. Switched to a RAT5.

weirdly enuff that photo makes it look really bad cuz of the angle but if u actually sit dead in front of the screen, it's not that bad heh but thanks for the nice comment, i am upgrading to the new iMac next month so hopefully the screen isn't as 'shiny' XD

The white headphone is: http://www.beatsbydre.com/headphones/beats-wireless-white/900-00010-01,default,pd.html
The brown headphones are Denon D7000s.
Speakers are M-Audio Studiophiles

Zanza, we should meet in real life. You even drink the same water as I do. The only difference is that I like KARA more than SNSD and I would never in my entire life buy/wear Beats by Dre. ;)

You trolling? Because you can't be serious. Those are Beats headphone like the ones you see every other idiot on the street with.
These may be the wireless version which could be found here or they are the wired ones with the cables unplugged from the headphone(connects with a 3.5mm jack to the heaphones also)

edit:// god damn beaten!

hahaha i got it as a gift, they actually aren't bad.... i am always surprised at the hate i get online for posting them, it's like Dr. Dre beat these people up personally or something lol

and KARA is awesome! i like them a lot too, snsd is just my primary bias is all, u can kinda see my fav member in the background

Not new to Mac's but this the first I actually bought. Everything works except the HP LaserJet 1018.. actually better. Need to upgrade to 16GB and eventually SSD.

Sold my 2 Dells and finally got something I have always wanted since they first came out. Looking for another one to run dual displays.

That looks like a 24" ACD. How is better than 2 Dells?

Its a 20" couldn't find a nice condition 23 around here and those tend to suffer from tinting issues. It was either the 20 or the 30. I plan on running 2 of them also it will be dual display again.

I had 2 2012 Dell P2412H's before and the Cinema Display is way better.

I've liked the design of these monitors since they came out but could never afford them along with the G5
My dells were TN planels while this is IPS and that alone helps immensely because I would position my dual dells at an angle towards me and the colors change alot even when moving my head just an inch.
It is 16:10 while the Dells were 16:9
Cinema Display was $50 and in awesome condition. Was also made in 2009 and a lot of the ones on Craigslist and eBay are older ones mostly from 2004-2005 and their CCFL's have dimmed a lot. Couldnd't pass up a deal like that for $50 and I sold my Dells for $400.

My setup before

^^^ Portal reference. BTW I want that sweatshirt.

27-inch iMac, late 2012:

3.2GHz Core i5
8GB RAM
GeForce GTX 675MX
1TB hard drive

Nice and fast for my purposes... and, I'll admit, a lot easier to heft up on to the desk than the old model (it's nine pounds lighter).

I'm pretty shocked you can stand using the Magic Mouse as your primary pointing input device...

I'll put up a better pic of the iMac specific part of it later but here's a wide view of my new desk:

New desk by Kadath, on Flickr

It's not what everyone would want but it's EXACTLY what I've been looking for. Enough space to have a half dozen different machines surrounding me in a semi-circle, accessible at the turn of my chair. I have used both bootcamp and parallels in the past but I prefer to simply have discrete boxes for different needs. My PCs are simply life support systems for Steam, my Macs are where I get my real work done.

It took me literally 10 months of watching Craigslist for something like this to come up, and while I found a few similar ones in the past none would deliver. This thing weighs over 400 pounds and is built like a tank. I suspect it will stay with the house whenever I move to a new one. I wasn't real particular with what wood I would choose but this is real Mahogany with a clear coating on top. There's a few chips in it here and there but at 1/4 the price of buying it new, I can deal with that for sure. Gives it character =)

your @ work looks like network software, mind sharing what you use? Or is it music software?

That's a "space" I keep setup with a bunch of web browser windows displaying our ZenOSS reports for some of our critical infrastructure. Good for a quick overview of what's happening and to see if anything is out of trend but not throwing alerts.
