As a break from my normal "we're all going to die" robot posts we make around here, I give you the burger making robot.

A company called Momentum Machines has designed a robotic burger maker called Burgeon designed to replace short order cooks in fast food restaurants. The company claims that the Burgeon can make up to 360 burgers per hour.

And there go the jokes about burger flipping jobs at places like Mickey D's. Hell. they ought to get rid of everyone and turn those places into burger and fry dispensing machines.

Better yet, make it a dispensing machine with an IV that you shove in your ass to pump lard directly into it. :D

I hope the machine doesn't include "unionize" code.

Gonna give a whole new meaning to grease burger. I wouldnt want a burger from a vending machine.

Could produce far more consistent results.

The taco bell by my house for example is AWESOME, but without fail the one by my work is, well, fail. I kept going different times of the week, and the staff there need to be replaced by robots ASAP.

Society can only advance if monotonous simple tasks are automated, allowing the people to put their time/effort to more productive things. Heck, even if it just means learning to maintain a robot. That one person now effectively makes 360 burgers an hour (or more if he can maintain the bots at multiple facilities).

Regarding young people with no other skillset though, there's always prostitution. Trickle down economics from us old guys.

Thats the thing, the percent of the population that doesnt have a skillset is soaring while the jobs that suit them are plunging. That generally means they have nothing better to do that resort to violence as schooling is just too damned expensive.

More productive things? Such as what?! Writing resumes' for jobs that don't exist?! Signing up for Welfare? Automation replaces jobs, it doesn't free people up for more productive things!! If you don't need employees to do tasks, then you don't hire them!!! Automation has eliminated millions of jobs, creating millions without a job!! Come out of your George Jetson Fantasy, they will not pay you to come in every day to prop your feet up on a desk!!!

The future for this present generation is bleak!!!

Burger flippers at Mcdonalds are on LinkedIn. You can view their full profiles and contact them directly.

Lol.

Every job will likely be replaced at some point, thats just how things go. The real issue is what will everyone do when nothing needs to be done? It's not like everyone can do science or make more machines (there will be machines for that, who will likely be better and can understand all branches of everything). So it will have to be something that isn't purely intellegence/ability based.

Write poems? Spend time doing artwork? :D

Could produce far more consistent results.

That could be a good or bad thing... it could be more "work" and less "home", consistantly. :D

Actually it does and you can thank everything we have for the more general efficiency gain in all areas of life. Just think outside your box, imagine you are a human before well anything you hunt and gather. You have to cover a huge amount of land then one day you neibor walks up to you and says, guess what, yuou dont have to spend 12 hours / day hunting and gathering, because I picked a plant and grew it all right here now I am clearing land and cultivating it. That was the first type of automation so to speak. Now people turn into farmers, then cycle after cycle of efficiency gains happen, people learn to hybridize plants to make more food in the same amount of land, domesticate animals to get rid of hunting. Each time some ignorant caveman said but I lost my job, I am now obsolete because no one needs my expertise to find the berry patch. But each time this happens the system does not collapse, no contrary to what the ignorant cave man thinks it progresses because life becomes more secure, people learn to retask themself to other jobs and start specializing and building more tools and thinking which results in even more efficiency gains. And the best part is people start wanting more than they ever had before and other people start to deliver it. Efficiency and resources are exactly why America is a rich nation, not any other bullshit you heard.

All the uneducated people in the developed countries will become obsolete. Their labor and services aren't going to be required anymore. Let the high school drop outs and bottom feeders suffer for their own actions of not being educated. Gotta have some type skills to survive in a modern futuristic society. All cheap labor will be replaced by robots.

With AI, the "skilled" labor could be replaced too. If an AI had understanding of all tech and science, it could be much better than any human, and the humans wouldn't be needed. :D

I figured they would do something similar years ago with burger flippers. Maybe not make the whole burger, but like have the patty cooking automated so that the moment somebody orders a burger it begins cooking faster than any human could throw it on the grill ensuring high quality consistent meat...

The cheap labor will not be replaced if it is cheaper to have humans than it is to buy and maintain the robots as they are not cheap. Many companies will not want to make the large initial investment to buy them (Think $10,000's to $100,000's per robot per store. It starts to add up real quick.) Why do you think most US roads are crappy or are in need of repair? Because the temporary patches done to the roads that need to be replaced are much cheaper in the short term than tearing up the road and replacing it, which is cheaper long term but has higher short term costs.

there go the burger flipping jobs.

where are all the dropouts going to find jobs now?
We'll soon be a nation of leeches needing handouts.

Can't say I'm surprised. If robots could assemble cars, preparing a burger shouldn't be an issue. Its not like any special culinary skills are required in preparing fast food.

Install these and keep the prices the same just make up the difference in quality.

Yup, exactly my thought when I read this and responded. I almost ended it with: Better yet, make it a dispensing machine with an IV that you shove in your ass to pump the Brawndo directly into it.

You're not supposed to care about those small details... I mean, people.

Adding more exclamation points doesn't make your point more valid, sadly. Not here, anyways.

Back on topic, I wonder how they taste. I mean, if this thing can make a burger every ten seconds, does that include seasoning and flipping it when it's just right on the bottom or melting the cheese or making sure the bun is warmed/toasted/etc or whatever, or is it just blasting meat with heat?

Anyone every read Hary Harrison's Stainless Steel Rat? There was an automated restaurant called McSwineys or some such that was completely automated. He hid in it for a few weeks. Anyway, hell yes that is where they are going. Much easier than dealing with stupid humans. Not going to change my eating habits as I would rather not ever eat anything mass produced.

Usually, less skilled people are the majority of the population. If they are put in a situation of despair they'll resort to violence and you'll probably be watching civil war take place.

Also, if robots start making our food, it'll be easier for them to take over the world. They can hold the food and makes us die from hunger or poison us.

That's what wars are for. Once the robots take all the low paying labor positions it will make those uneducated people take up military positions that are cheaper economically than building robots for war.

Does it also drop the burgers on the floor, step on them, pick them up and spit on them, and then put them back on the grill like nothing happened?

The real issue is what will everyone do when nothing needs to be done?

Be the batteries for the machines that replace us, then when they find other fuels to replace us, reduce us to grease to keep them lubed.

WE are all gonna die! Then be made into hamburgers and fed to the other 'meat sack' slaves. :p

yeah unfortunately the uneducated people will steal everything and everything from others, they're not just going to "go away" and they probably are not going to learn some skillset to make them useful in society. I mean just look at copper thieves, and cat.converter thieves, and any sort of other metal thieves, we have plastic fire hose nozzles in our building because some mother fucker found out brass was worth money. Hell my inlaws who are farmers know this first hand you have a huge community of "unskilled" labor, nothing is safe, not farm equipment, plastic pipes, or even pumpkins.

maybe we can get a patriot act type of law passed that lets us shoot on sight with no repercussions!!

Yep, send em to feed the war machine. We will have a massive army that could rival the one used in the Clone Wars.

Is there seriously no video of this? Couldn't find one anywhere...

The burger in that picture is terrible! Bun is burnt, there's way too much onion. Burger is as thick as tomato slice . That sandwich is more toppings than meat.

You suck Burgeon. You can't make hamburgers if you don't have that love feel for a greasy burger.

When Burgeon asks "Why do humans like grease?" How will you answer it?

if the robot's burger taste better than my wife's, does that mean the robot puts more love into it?
