Can't find a black Wii U anywhere, been trying to find one. They look so good. But after talking to a chick at an EB Games outlet near me, she said most of them were taken in pre-orders... in fact, nearly all of them. Won't be able to find those till after Xmas. The white Wii Us though, you can find those.

Very different from the original Wii release, where I went three entire years without seeing a retail box, but found the white Wii U in the first store I walked into. Walmart had 2, the very next store I checked, a Best Buy, had a stack of 7 white Wii Us. I was shocked.

But I've decided to go and grab one this morning, just haven't made up my mind as to what game. ZombiU does look good, though that New Super Mario Bros. U looks brilliant in HD. Maybe I'll get both.

Look up inventory on the walmart website for your store to see if any deluxes are in stock. I ran to a few walmarts in my area and employees at both said they were out. Well I looked online and it showed them as having them in stock so I went back to one of them and told the worker to look up if they had any and he said oh I guess we do have em and went in back and grabbed a few to put in the display.

Also my opnion on the system is similiar to the OP's :D I am also really impressed with the online community, Miiverse seems pretty well implemented so far with my half hour of playing around with it.
 
Target's website will also help you find stock in the same way. Some stores won't have any idea they have them until you bring it up and ask them to check.
 
Thanks for the tips, guys! I looked up that Best Buy location online and there were a couple of those blacks in stock. Fortunately I had this week off from work so I was able to show up at the doors when they opened at 9:00 am and they were still there.

Grabbed one and been spending the last couple hours setting it up. It was a hell of a long update for the online stuff. I really like it so far, the youtube and internet browser are pretty well implemented... and the Gamepad might just be my favorite console controller since the N64.

It's just like having a bigger version of my DS. It actually works really well.
 
ill have to update my review as my wife came home with the sonic racing game out for the wii u. her explanation was its a "game i want to play". i have to admit though, there is a lot of depth and fun to be had in this game if you like racing games like mario kart, especially at $40. i had very low expectations but was pleasantly surprised. its great to have 2 people playing without splitscreen. i haven't done a whole lot with it yet other than the first set of maps in multiplayer but there are a lot of maps, modes, and characters to unlock.

oh yeah and i beat trine 2 and the goblin story line. epic fun game. going back to NSMBU to get all the star coins and secret worlds, and as always, zombiu at night :)

Poo, how was Trine 2? Shame we didn't get to play that! I haven't even touched my Wii U in a week because of my schedule.

Now now, be fair. I wouldnt say its nickel and diming considering WiiU accepts (almost) any external HD you put in (no profits for Nintendo from selling addons) compared to Xbox360 which only accepts Xbox360 HD unless you hack it a bit. And controller is personal preference, I think the tablet controller kicks ass and I dont see why it wouldnt work with FPS titles as far as pad controlling is considered. But then again I am a "PC Master Race" person and say that the only way to play FPS with controller is mouse and keyboard, all pads are mediocre at best for that. :)
Also Nintendo included HDMI cable with the console, an act which pisses off HDMI cable manufacturers quite a bit. :D So again, I dont think the nickel and dime accusation is really valid.
 
I think my gripe is more the size of those games. I've still got the stock HD's with both my 360 and PS3 with plenty of games installed on them (both buying full games in their stores and game installs) and have never had the need to have anything extra to accommodate either. Essentially, the models I bought years ago are still feature complete today. Both of those came with HDMI cables...and network cables, too.
I find it a bit ludicrous that Tekken literally takes up more than 1/2 of the hard drive.
Pretty much no matter which model you buy, buying games online more or less requires an external HD purchase.
Nintendoland borderline requires at least a second controller with some games not even having a single player option.
I'm also a bit disappointed that Nintendo is again cutting corners with sound, too.

I did get those, but haven't played much, because ZombiU really is awesome. It's really growing on me, but I keep getting eaten to death. Man that game is REALLY tense, and HARD! I've noticed every time I play it, I start sweating lol. But, bad reviews go to hell, because the game is awesome, non of that nonsense in the gamespot review. I wonder if we are playing the same game. It's such a rush! Even more so, after watching 2 episodes of the Walking Dead last night, I was damn ready!

But yeah, I got Trine 2 and Nano Assault Neo (which would be even more awesome if it had online multiplayer, the local is still very cool). Spent more time on Nano, but haven't really given both games the time yet. I'm really enjoying ZombiU. It has a tendency to freak me out pretty regularly. I miss that. The last time a game did that was Resident Evil... 2?

I was feeling kinda sick last night and wasn't on the PC for very long. Gonna try to get further in ZombiU, so my console will be on tonight.

You must not have very many games, because I've upgraded my ps3 hard drive several times. Having PlayStation plus you get tons of free games. And they are not small. Neither myself or my son can install all our Xbox games on our systems all at once. The 250gb drives aren't big enough and the 320 wouldn't be either. I wish the Xbox had the option for big external drive and ps3 also since they are cheaper than 2.5 inch drives. I say bravo Nintendo.

Resident evil 5 gold 7.5 GB

Just a couple of the free PlayStation plus games in my list and they are quite hefty.

With my sons and my xbox's we keep all dlc on flash drives, games installed on hard drive are almost full and not even all games are installed just the most commonly played are.

Where and how did you check in-store stock for Best Buy? Their website just shows "no available" to me, won't even let me do a look up.

Well I can't really tell how many units there are there, but on the Canadian Best Buy site, if you click on the Product Information Screen (http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product...spx?path=e954ceb4dd9f656f3f14ad6bd9900e47en02) there's a thing that opens up which indicates you can reserve it in the store, and below "Local Store" (which is coded to my postal code) there's a list of Best Buys with at least one unit in stock. Apparently the city name comes up with a green checkmark if there's at least one unit in stock, and when I looked, I assumed there were two, and there were actually two. But I can't tell how many units are there, no, sorry about the mistype. Now Oakville's Best Buy isn't showing up anymore, so I guess the last unit I saw is now gone. Seems like there's at least one black at the one in Brampton, though.
 
It’s only been in the last couple years that new games were hitting at the same time as the disk versions, so I don’t have all that many truly massive games – but I do have at least a dozen games like Tekken Dark Resurrection, Grand Tourismo 5, Street Fighter 3, Sam & Max, etc. I do have Infamous and Zombie Apocalypse and I have yet to delete any installs from games like MGS4, Uncharted, and the like. I have my entire 360’s library installed (20’ish games) and 2-3 full game downloads with no space issues.
I’d say the catch is that newer PS3’s and 360 come stocked with massive drives now that day 1 games can be purchased online. In the case of the Wii U, they’re only sale on day 1…and they didn’t take that into account, or they simply chose not to so the system can sell for a lowly $350 when it’s essentially missing the means to store them.
To me it would be like the PS3 shipping with a Blu-Ray player but forcing you to buy a software media player to watch them…or the 360 shipping without a LAN adapter or wireless.

In general, when praising the Wii U I feel like I have to amend everything with a “but.” It’s been a frustrating week and one I never encountered with any other system except maybe the Saturn…another system that was probably rushed to market before it was ready.

As having been a day one person for both the 360 and the ps3 those same "buts" applied to them to. I say this for Nintendo they have a great reliability record. I'm on my 3rd Xbox and I have repaired my ps3 at least twice, its a fully backwards compatible launch unit.

Your comparison to the other 2 not including stuff is wrong. You can play games without the external storage it isn't needed, but you can add it if you want to. The system is fully functional without it. Since the large game are available in retail they aren't download only.

And as a tester of every new dash for the Xbox, I have no worries that Nintendo will tweak there's out as well. I must have more patients than some I guess it comes with my lively hood and I've translated that to everything I do.
 
Right now I’d say that downloading full-retail games is the norm. It’s expected. For that matter, it’s a selling point of the Wii U, especially the “deluxe” one. That wasn’t the case with the 360 or PS3 but both still shipped with HD’s that are comparable to the Wii U’s a full 6 years later. Both starting cranking out systems with bigger HD’s in a hurry and Sony’s 60GB models have been enough for quite some time.

For a system priced like this, I’m just not seeing the same value I felt I received from the 360 and PS3. It doesn’t support Blu-Ray playback or even multi-channel audio streams. It doesn’t support any audio codecs beyond uncompressed 5.1 (which streaming services don’t use). It requires an extra disk drive for downloads, at least if you plan on having more than 2 games. There’s no universal in-game chat service like XBL (the PS3 is guilty of not having this, too). The menus and OS are beyond sluggish. Mine has frozen 4 times in a week. That's NOT a good sign. Data transfer from the Wii was kludgy at best. The tablet even feels a little cheap and the gyro inside rattles. I dunno – I’m not impressed so far. You can make a lot of things better…but almost all of them involve a trip back to the store or hoping that things will improve with patches somewhere down the line.

If I didn’t love Mario Kart and Smash so much I’d probably consider returning it. Knowing my luck I’d take it back and then future models would end up killing off features like the PS3 and Wii did.
While the early games ARE good, everything else seems shaky. Like using a beta-level OS for work. I feel like I bought a system beta.
 
Freezing will be fixed in next software update. Every reviewer has said that never once did the system freeze before the update. Also mine has not frozen one time since setting the language setting in mii verse to English only. This was suggested in the Nintendo forums.
 
Been playing Super Mario and it's a pretty sweet game. Would've played it hardcore but my battery on the Gamepad needed to be recharged. That's really my only gripe so far with the system. That, and the fact there's no Virtual Console... I mean, it's fully fleshed out on the Wii, but it won't be close to that on the Wii U until like March of next year. Other than that, so far, so good.

Per some quick searches, it supposed to fix some of the freezing issues. Mine has locked up 4 times (and I even did the whole language "fix" to no avail), so I really hope it worked.
I started mine around 9PM and it hadn't finished by the time I had to go to bed.

I think they pushed it out at that time.
I was in the middle of Nano Assault when I noticed it was downloading in the background. I wonder if theres something else included or if they overwrote the old firmware, since the download was 598MB.

Sounds like TVii will be available on the 8th. I'd wait till NOA's direct today to confirm the other details, but the google thing is pretty awesome.
 
I have to give a thumbs up to Nano Assault Neo. I wasn't too excited about it at first but now I can't stop playing it...fun game!

Unlocked Omicron last night, oh man is it hard. I'm with you, I can't put it down once I get started. I can't tell you how many times I did Zeta or whatever, its hard as hell. The first cell with all the "trees", I unlocked Omicron, but died pretty much immediately on the first cell lol. I gotta say though, best $10 bux this launch, sleeper hit. Awesome game. I can't wait to get some 2 player going this weekend.

Netflix on this thing is the bomb, watched the whole Walking Dead all last night into this morning. I don't even need to use the lcdtv, I can carry and watch it around the house... the range of the Gamepad is surprising, it extends from the basement where it is installed all the way up to my bedroom on the second floor. But if I stand up from my bed, I'm out of range, heh. I've since thrown the Wii U on a high shelf to get more wiggle room upstairs.

Game-wise, I have bought Assassin's Creed 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, Tank! Tank! Tank!, and Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed. I have heard great things about the Sonic racing game (I paid $30), and it has online play, so I am definitely keeping that. NSMB U is basically a keeper for me for sure as well (I paid $48).

My questions are... what about the Tank game? The reviews are pretty abysmal and it has no online play unlike I had heard pre-launch (where statements claimed it would on various sites)... is there any fun to be had (considering a $38 purchase price) as purely single-player? Or is the level repitition I have read about THAT obnoxious as to not really be worth it?

On Assassin's Creed 3, I have a high-end PC (sig rig) and have been debating between keeping my Wii U copy ($48 purchase price) or just getting a PC version. Has anyone played both? Or has anyone played a 360/PS3 version and then tried the Wii U one? I'd love the simplicity of just playing it through my console on my projector setup, but if the graphics and overall gameplay are just that much jaw-droppingly better on the PC I'd obviously want to go that route, anyway (I'd likely then play it at 2560x1600 on a 30" monitor, vs. an 84" projector setup). Thoughts? Is the game even worth $48 anyway?

I'm also looking at COD Black Ops 2 for the Wii U... again, anyone played both the 360/PS3 version and compared it with the Wii U one? I have read the framerate and graphics quality is noticeably and substantially better on the Wii U version. I would normally go for a game like this on my PC but... I heard you can use a Wiimote to aim like you could in Metroid on the original Wii, which was actually pretty fun overall, and I figure being able to play on the gamepad screen would be fun on my recliner/etc. as well. On the other hand, I have heard a lot of amazon/etc. reviews complaining of the game having major flaws/being stale/etc. and low online population count. For someone who hasn't seriously played any COD game since Modern Warfare 1, what would you all say? Also, is online play filled enough to play on anything but 1 map?

Finally, how is the gamepad battery life if you use it on medium or so brightness? I know it can be plugged in while using it... is the connector placed in an annoying-to-hold location or is it unobtrusive while playing with it?

For someone who hasn't seriously played any COD game since Modern Warfare 1, what would you all say? Also, is online play filled enough to play on anything but 1 map?

Finally, how is the gamepad battery life if you use it on medium or so brightness? I know it can be plugged in while using it... is the connector placed in an annoying-to-hold location or is it unobtrusive while playing with it?

OK first keep assassins creed you got a good price. The PC version will look better but the game isn't worth 60 bucks so I wouldn't bother. Codbo2 is nice on Wii u I have it on Xbox also it looks better on the Wii u. And being able to play on the gamepad is great for when others are home and wanna watch TV. Online matches are populated better now and filled with far less d-bags. hope that helps some. Forgot to mention battery life been getting 4 to 5 hours with settings you mention and rumble off. With brightness at 4 and rumble on about 3.5 to 4 hours. I'm sure we will see better battery options soon for it since its a user accessible part.
 
yeah if you notice there are some odd screw inserts on the back of the wii u gamepad as well as a connector no one really knows about. my thoughts is they will come out with a battery pack for the gamepad so you can get like 10 hours.

one thing that continually stands out to me is how much better the online community is!
 
That new update definitely speed up the system, not soo much but its noticeable IMO.... :)
 
Anyone play the newer Mario Bros game for original Wii? Is that comparable at all?
 
new super mario bros for wii? ... yeah its great! it would probably be hard to go back to it though after having nsmbu for wii u but its a great game none the less.
 
Picked up Darksiders 2 last night, i'm liking it better than the first and it is pretty good on the Wii U. Anyone play Warrior Orochi 3?
