Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

Yeah and scavenger is the gunmaster of this round. Play it, win 3 rounds for the xbow, never play it again. Waste of energy. Stop doing this and make the real maps better. Oh and ENOUGH of the sun is 2 feet from the atmosphere BRIGHT maps please. Jesus. Next game BEST be in a more reasonable lit arena.

I agree on all points.

I like Scavenger better than Gunmaster. But yeah, it'll be abandoned once people get the Crossbow.

For the people who downloaded the game slow tonight....

I'm sorry. :(

Lies

Slow is an understatement for what my speeds currently are. I am lucky to get 75kbps. I started the download 3 hours ago at around 175kbps and thought that was horrible!

I was getting 2.66-3.25 MB/S. Slower than the 5 MB/S I got last night.

I wish Steam was as quick as Origin.

Scavenger is nothing like gunmaster. at ALL.

It's frigging conquest and you start with pistols, guns you find only have a few rounds inside. It's awesome imo

well so far I'm having a hard time seeing anyone. lotta stuff going on, multiple levels to watch seems kinda perfect for camping

This has been my experience so far as well, having a really hard time seeing people.

There is just so much going on on the maps, so many places people could be. Hole's everywhere, multiple floors, etc. Target acquisition sucks. I guess they changed some guns too, feels odd

Well, it's been a busy day. Put in a decent amount of hours, and a few hours of prep the night before to do as much coverage on launch day as I possibly could. Result; I managed to knock out 3 weapon reviews in one day all up to date for the Aftermath Patch/DLC. I plan on getting more content out all this week as well, and not just Weapon Reviews, but Modes and Map coverage.

Maketh way for the reviews!

I couldn't play aftermath last night, for some reason it said "i didn't have access" even though I paid their asses already with premium, this morning when I left it was downloading/re-downloading?

What's the consensus on the new maps? I played for about an hour last night on a full 64 player server. They seem to be pretty fun so far. Mostly infantry but not a clusterfuck like Close Quarters. I likes em.

I always get the opposite. As soon as I set the location in Steam, it pegs my 27mbps pipe and never lets up. Origin, on the other hand, I had to let toil into the night while I slept. It was done when I woke up but jeez.

For me, steam and origin are both about 1.7mb usually.

New maps are ok. Kind of a mix of infantry and vehicles with some great high points to observe the action. I held a bridge by myself for a good while. Took a heli and two tanks to knock me off as infantry lol.

Tons of fun, love the maps. I think these are the best designed maps in the game. I have not been very pleased with BF3's map design, I felt BC2's was a lot better. And I think these call back to that a bit, I'm kinda curious if that has a bit to do with not having Jets on the maps though.

I'm excited to try out these new maps then. I thought I had downloaded the patch, but apparently I hadn't... I kept getting stuck on "connecting" so after a reboot, i finally checked the add-ons for bf3 in origin and saw the option to download aftermath.

I shall try it tonight!

Yeah it does have a good feel so far. I like jets but not on all maps. They are so damn loud.

My experience with the maps changed over the course of playing them. I think because it was launch day, people were still figuring things out, so early on the maps played very badly. There was a lot of confusion happening and it turned mostly into a cluster fk.

However, as play time increased, people learned the maps and figured out their routes. That made the maps play much more fun. However, at that point I noticed a lot more of the spawning behind someone and vice versa resulting in cheap kills. I hate that. I would say the original and Back to Karkand maps are still my favorite.

Now that you mention no jets it really makes me want to get in there and lay some waste. I love firestorm, caspian and kharg but the friggin jet whores who focus only on infantry make me crazy. Focus on other vehicles you bitches.

I suck with the jets. I definitely need to get a joystick again. Flying is so much easier with one!

Well I only had a couple of hours to play lst night and one of them was spent downloading 4 gigs again. lol oh well. I only got to play two maps, but I have to say Epicenter is pretty cool. You can't be running around like a wild chicken. Too many hiding spots. Playing inside the big building for the flags was epic!

Anyone in here still having issues with hyperthreading in BF3? I'm about to fire up my 3930k tonight and I'm on the fence if I'm going to leave HT on. Right now I'm leaning not on.

IIRC it was 1366 that had the worst of the issues. My HT was off for BF3, made it extremely annoying with the stutter.

Same here, 2600K w/HT On and no issues.

The problem I have with jets is, it's like they are playing their own game. A decent pilot can smoke a Stinger then dip low and head off the map and get out of lock on range before you get a 2nd lock and they can destroy a tank in one pass. I have spent games just watching the same Jets flying around in the air, some take shots at them, but for the most part, these are the guys going 25/2 and such on larger maps, because it's just a waste trying to kill them, and I don't think thats right.

Eh thats just the nature of jets, Taliban Timmy doesn't strong arm a jet with his no skill eztube. Jets have a high learning curve to master so theyre supposed to stomp by design. If your teams jets are inept then find a diff server or l2play them yourself. The notion I often hear that any unit in the game should be able to 1v1 any other unit is absurd and would make the whole thing more boring than they've already made it. People bought a game advertised as chess and then want it changed to checkers.

Jets were even more powerful in BF2. On the bright side DICE nerfed heli's into the dirt especially since the AK patch so infy players have a lot more time and breathing room to play hide and seek on the ground. Not to mention, the majority of maps don't even have jets featured in them and are infantry oriented so not like there's a lack of places to play more of the COD game types, and if you join a vehicle map anyway you can't really complain about vehicles - and the top of their foodchain which is jets.

alright! dice and their ea pals have not only found a way to get some market from cod by copying cod for a dlc, but now they have a way to get some of the dayz/warz people with another. maybe even some half life dm people will cross over, after all they will be able to use a xbow.

I got another video up today. If anyone hasn't played Scavenger yet, or maybe hasn't looked into the finer details, here's an overview of the mode.

Troll elsewhere COD fanboy. Most people I know aren't even using the xbow, it's just there for a bit more Class depth.

Close quarters looked to be pretty obviously designed to attract the COD demographic. Bought it, played it for a few hours, went back to the vanilla/B2K/AK.

Having to download the patch again is pretty shitty, especially when it is downloading at 1/10th the speed it did last night =/

Yeah thats how it is for me too. Looks like I'm not playing until tomorrow :(

Yeah, this is the third time I've downloaded it. It's going alright, 2.8mb/s but three times? Lame.

Looks like Origin is redownloading Aftermath. Hopefully it doesn't take up extra HDD space and it works this time. It is also downloading slower for me.

Second time here. Only it shows that it saved Aftermath, but not the update? Weird.

Have you guys it to work since re-redownloading?!

Kinda sucks no one plays AK anymore :(

Same with Close Quarters and many of the original maps such as Tehran. I still prefer the original maps and B2K for vehicles.

I've tried all of the maps now, and one of the large ones (with the Senate as an objective) is a good map. I just wish there were some more weapons and a few vehicles aside from a van. A Bradley would have been nice.

Everyone is focusing on the new software they paid for. Give it a few more days, by the 7 day mark people will start migrating toward whatever they prefer. Most likely Original and B2K will be fiercely populated, with a few "all expansion" servers populated and the odd combination or single expansion server.

People will of course go back to some of the Normal maps. But honestly, having played all the other DLC on day one, I have never seen so many people say good words about them. Yes people would say they were fun and such, but I see a lot more extremely excited. Personally, I think I'm done with Vanilla and the other 2 DLC's. This is the best map design yet, and I'm extremely happy with it. AK I think I played 1 day after launch then went back, CQ I still play every now and then, but not very often.

Unmetered servers and capped Internet speeds because of excess downloading for the month is why I really wish BF3 was on Steam. EA is too useless to have that feature on Origin for Australian customers, even though we get charged through the nose for everything on Origin, including $25 DLC that costs Americans $15...

Love the new larger maps...If I try really [H]ard it almost plays like BF2 *sigh*

Scavenger is not as innovative as I thought it was going to be. The rounds end way too quickly (imo), and there are tons of guns- everywhere. What is this scavenging we are supposed to be doing??

In the Aftermath maps that have aircraft, is it basically just Scout Heli's? That's all I saw in the trailers. I dont even have BF3 installed anymore to check them out, just curious.

I always wished Strike at Karkand had a couple Little Birds flying around to give the map more of a Black Hawk Down vibe.

That would be rad conceptually, but I think the little brids would own sh*t, to way un-balanced levels.

I've not played much conquest or rush in Aftermath yet. Everyone is talking about the larger maps being great... I should try it as all I've experienced are the smaller versions of every map.

My friend was saying he'd like BF3 a lot more if you could prestige and had scorestreaks, what do you think?
