Battlefield 3 General Discussion Thread

I saw a few aftermath servers with people in them last night. After I finished downloading the update, however, they were all gone.

One guy was using an Xbow in a regular-bf3 server last night too. perhaps he hopped in one of those servers and got it unlocked?

Mine just says the game is up to date. When I launch the new servers it says I need Aftermath.

What is the general consensus on AK and CQ expansions?

I stopped playing right when CQ came out, and just recently got back into it. I still feel like the maps in the original and B2K are the best... but maybe I'm missing out on something?
 
If you like vehicles buy AK. It wasn't much fun for me as a person that liked to play medic. I thought it was terrible but others seem to have fun with it.

the original and B2K maps are by far the best. AK and CQ are fine to hop into occasionally, but usually only for a game or two before i go back to the original/B2K maps. hoping AM ends up being more long term for me.

I agree, though I like Close Quarters. Armored Kill maps are not that fun to me. B2K and the original maps are the best for vehicles IMO.

I also can not get Aftermath to load.
 
I like the Close Quarters maps because they are a 180 degree diversion from the launch maps. It's as close to CoD as DICE should go without losing the BF3 identity.

I haven't. :/ Got a 3.9gb update yesterday and now I'm getting it again today. It shows I can join servers and I don't get that "get Aftermath" message anymore clicking on Join but it keeps trying to download the update again.

As expected EA. :mad:
 
Finally! Maybe I can play 1 map before my Cisco Final exam lol. I want that Xbow

I don't know. I have DL the damn thing twice too and could not play it last night. Hope that changes when I get home.
 
I just got home from work ready to play and its wanting to download it again too.

Ugh. This takes over 2 hours for me :(

Someone said they are working on it... should I pause this download, or let it go to finish, again, or what?

I canceled the update it was trying to do, and was unable to join any games. I 'checked for updates', even after restarting Origin and it said it was up do date, but still unable to join games.

I did the "repair install" option and when that finished it only said I was up to date. After this however, I was able to join the old maps and play. I still can't play the new maps. It just stays at "connecting".

I guess you have to download both 3.8Gb things after all. Apparently they are the same size but not the same thing? Idk.

Finally worked for me after 3 times downloading.

New maps seem fun enough but remind me a lot of CQ.

Already people know all the hiding spots and I'm getting killed by peeps I can't see. CRIPES!
 
I see MADD jaggies in your video... It looks like you're playing a source game with everything turned off.
 
ha well don't think i'm not a knucklehead myself :D

leaving work in a few minutes. get to go home and download another 3.X Gb patch. Sam Adams will keep me company while i wait.
 
Having to download the patch again is pretty shitty, especially when it is downloading at 1/10th the speed it did last night =/
 
Downloaded, closed, restarted, ran origin...no download required. Not sure what you guys are doing to make it download again. :D

First game...not bad. Don't see it bring me back into BF3 full time though. Pretty maps though even though its too dusty imo.

Should try out Planetside 2, the maps are big enough it'd take months to learn the good spots.

And they actually have VOIP, 4-5 different binds worth of VOIP!
 
On my third round too. Weird. I would have thought it would have stored the damn patch. I have that option to keep downloads selected in origin.
 
well so far I'm having a hard time seeing anyone. lotta stuff going on, multiple levels to watch seems kinda perfect for camping
 
Got the download, havent started playing yet. One of my buddies is sort of a noob to pc fps's, but he is doing pretty well so far. His K:D sucks, but he usually gets a lot of points (i'm trying to teach him to be a team player!)

lots of chuckles while playing together, this game was totally meant for friends playing as squads

Yeah and scavenger is the gunmaster of this round. Play it, win 3 rounds for the xbow, never play it again. Waste of energy. Stop doing this and make the real maps better. Oh and ENOUGH of the sun is 2 feet from the atmosphere BRIGHT maps please. Jesus. Next game BEST be in a more reasonable lit arena.
 
Looks like Origin is redownloading Aftermath. Hopefully it doesn't take up extra HDD space and it works this time. It is also downloading slower for me.

Slow is an understatement for what my speeds currently are. I am lucky to get 75kbps. I started the download 3 hours ago at around 175kbps and thought that was horrible!
