Scythe USA Closes Its Doors

Well as far as low profile goes I'd rather have something like this from Noctua http://www.silentpcreview.com/Noctua_NH-L9i
than the Scythe Kozuti. Mostly for the reasons mentioned in the article. The Kozuti doesn't stay within the keepout boundaries and so if I ever want to switch boards or RAM, etc. my options would be limited. I don't like to limit future options and would pick the Noctua over the Scythe for that reason alone.

It's little stuff like that, that can affect sales and send a company under. I'm sure there are larger reasons as well. They didn't make bad products, but as previously mentioned some of the products were just strange and many fans were just rebranded.

Dammit. I love those Gentle Typhoon and till now, I've yet to come across any fans better than this.

For the 2nd time Scythe doesn't make gts. They rebrand and import them.

You're right but I think the main point people are making is that it's going to be hard for the average enthusiast to get the GT (or Nidec Servo) now. I think you have to buy a minimum quantity or you have to be a business in order to buy directly from Nidec.

And since I haven't written this yet in my first two posts...

RIP Scythe. :(

I got one of their fan controller in my HAF922 thing is really nice looking slick and it can control up to 8 fans. The kicker is its a 3.5inch drive bay. I'm gone miss these guys amazing fan controllers.

With how well Nidec ap15s sell, I'll bet that someone will take up the importing and rebranding

God damn it. Love scythe products. I had one of those "over the top huge cpu heatsinks" and it rocked. Still have it actually, but won't fit into my current motherboard. (lol). No big, got another scythe heatsink chilling in there right now.

Now may be the time to buy another s flex...

sad... my HTPC is using a scythe ninja, completely fanless (minus the PSU) PC. It works so well too and has great clearance.

Too much shitty doom and gloom news on the whole PC industry.

It's sick.

Where's the :violently ill: emoticon?

I never got to buy a GT.. Newegg sold out already of Sycthe fans... I am sadden by this...

I certainly hope that will be the case. Maybe Corsair should do it, I believe they recently released their line of fan which wasn't that impressive. This could put them right on the top.

This is a bummer. The largest and coolest CPU heatsink I ever bought was through these guys - it didn't even need it fan it kept my old over-clocked quad core so cool. This is not a good day for enthusiasts... one less option. :(

It's a good thing I have like nine of their silent fans sitting around here.

The thing is though, their coolers weren't the best. They had some massive coolers that performed sub-par when put to the test. When compared to other models/cost, it just didn't make sense . . . which is why I have the Scythe Orochi in my computer right now. Haha.

Cool, my new's submission made it through, but no credit makes me sad :( but not as sad as this news. I shall treasure my Gentle Typhoons for as long as I can

Well to be honest, this comes as no surprise. Saying this after instead of buying third fan for Scythe miniNinja I went for Noctua NH-L12. I guess more of us did the same.

Official Scythe.com web site says:

Official statement for Scythe US office reorganization

(1)

The Scythe US office is managed separately from the Scythe Group. The mother
company of the US office had to close, resulting in the Scythe US office to close.

(2)
Other offices are not affected and will do business as usual.

(3)
Until a new US office is established or a main distributor has been
organized for, the Taiwan office will take over Scythe US business activities.

Contact Scythe Taiwan:

Sign of the times. People are moving away from desktops and adopting laptops but ever more increasingly tablets.

I already feel nostalgia for the good ol' days when people bickered unceasingly about nvidia vs ati and 3D Mark :p

Sort of looks like a lot of crying and moaning for no reason, doesn't it?

Apparently, it was only the parent company of the US distributor that went under in the US--and not Scythe itself. Scythe itself appears fine, and according to this press release, has already started the hunt for a new US distributor. That's the way it reads to me.

Their fans were exemplary. A shame.

Fuck the politicians that drive our situation further into the sea.

Every company that fails do so because of politicians
How about keeping politics in soapbox.

Anyway, too bad. Very nice fans and some heat sinks too. Will be missed, sure am stocking up on some right now. Terrible name to market with all those silent consonants. Maybe part of the "silent" profile..

Sad to see them go as I have a few of their products (fans and controller) :(

while politicians in general are bad... honestly this is more of an issue of the "mainstream" where budding enthusiasts would come out of being sold by the media that smaller and smaller devices are the way to go, the post PC bullshit if you will.

they will have a console and a tablet, instead of being brought up on what more power can do. it's the group where console games and dvr'sare "good enough" and making custom boxes is too much hassle and takes too much time.

on the upside europe seems to be on a pc enthusiast upswing.

Sigh. It couldn't be they weren't sustainable because they cater to niche markets? Nah it couldn't be. Blame politicians.

On topic: never had a Scythe but I heard many good things about them. Always bought Coolermasters myself.

They are not going anywhere. Not even leaving US market. The only thing that goes away for a while is company called "Scythe USA".

Just read the new statement... What a misleading statement in the original announcement

Christ

when the outfit that brands the best fans going can't keep the doors open we ARE in trouble

I feel like I am living in an Ayn Rand novel
