Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

Update if anyone cares: Still did not get my money back from Amazon Payments. RSI replied a couple weeks ago with "Hey, turns out the pledge did go through" but that wasn't really the point. I explained the situation yet again, but have not heard back since and it's been over a month now so I'm kind of just thinking it's a lost cause. But hey, having two copies of the game isn't a total loss I guess, though really I'm just disappointed in Amazon Payments' dispute program and lack of communication.

send an e-mail to [email protected] and she should get you taken care of.

Wow, funding is really picking up now. Looks like we're going to hit 4mil with over 65 hours left to spare - I was afraid we weren't going to hit 4mil at all earlier this week.

Should be getting it within the next hour!

Upping my pledge to $125. This is definitely happening.

4 million mark meet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just gave in $60 to RSI and I know I won't regret it. Also found out I got a special golden ticket when I joined before the site launched, so I get exclusive equipment when the game comes out :D.

Holy shit, they are giving us so much extra stuff now.
This is quite exciting, they are already filling my inbox with updates, looks like we'll be getting alot more now!

Oh ho!
Just got this in my email, one more ship and they are going to do a LIVE stream tomorrow!

We've come along way! With 48 hours to go, we're at well over $4 million and we've already set the record for crowd-funding games! The final few stretch goals are near… the campaign couldn't have gone any better.

It's time to reveal how the campaign is going to end. Over the next 24 hours you're going to get a number of updates about all aspects of the Star Citizen project at the Roberts Space Industries website. Everything from art to music to team member introductions… the sort of things you've come to expect over the past month, released quickly! Then, at the 24 hour mark (1 PM CST on Sunday) the party really gets started.

We will be live-streaming the end of the campaign live from Caloud Imperium's temporary offices in Austin, Texas! You'll watch Chris and the team broadcast the final hours of the campaign telethon-style until this is all finally over. We'll be answering fan questions, giving away prizes and generally having a great time… and since we'll be in Austin we've arranged for some special guests from the old days of Origin and developing Wing Commander to stop by and swap war stories!

We're also going to be offering several limited-time special-offer ship packages. We want to stress beforehand, though, that these are ONLY to support the game. Every single additional ship we offer for sale in the next 48 hours will never be sold for cash again… but they will be available through gameplay. If you decide to pick one up, it should be because you want to support Star Citizen and not because you're worried it's a ship you'll never have otherwise. Check back soon to see the new ship options!

Wait, what's this? Breaking news! A message bearing the golden seal of the Imperator himself: Congratulation Citizens! Your dedication to the cause is impossible to deny. Working with the imperial fleet shipyards, I have secured one final lofty stretch goal for you: if we can reach the previously impossible $5.5 million level, then the Bengal carrier will be playable in the finished game. It will be very difficult to earn a Bengal… but when you do, it will be an amazing base for clans, squadrons and guilds. Can we get there?

You heard the man! $5.5 million to fly the Bengal carrier in Star Citizen. Here's to a great 48 hours!

Here is the Bengal:

that's probably it...their e-mailer for the rsi website is borked. not that it matters anyway, why don't you have their website bookmarked? updates are coming in left, right, up and down. check the comm link for the latest. also, their website is getting hammered, so it'll be slow to load.

With 40 Kickstarter updates, up to several a day I find it almost too much info too quickly!

I cant wait 2 years for this game....... alpha better come sooner rather than later :)

I am very excited to see what they do for multimonitor support.

The fundraising at the end here is really quite incredible. I'm hoping it reaches $4.5m: The destroyer and new race would be sweet. The richer the universe, the better!

Thanks for the advice. I emailed her today with a detailed email of my troubles and she responded almost immediately (on a Saturday, even) and it's going to get sorted out soon. Good customer service!
glad to hear it!

dude, this last 24 hours have been nuts. over $350,000 in pledges so far, and it isn't even the last day. we'll hit 4.5 million before sunday (even it is on pacific time lol).

How did I miss this! I loved Wing Commander so much. I wish I could swing more but I'm in for the $35 digital package...yeah!

Think its time for me to back this. I wonder, should I back on RSI or Kickstarter? Does everyone who grabs a high-end package get say, all the lower end stuff like backer decals and whatnot? Also, the titles there listed by various packages - are those actually available in-game somehow (ie. Colonel, Lancer etc..)? Likewise, the ships unlocked by the more expensive packages....will they be available to non-backers and whatnot, earned in the game as well? I actually hope they are, as even if I pick up a higher end package (not sure if I can justify $250 for the Constellation...) I'll definitely want a chance to access a variety of other ships. I'd like to know more about these ships in general as they prices they're asking for them are pretty exorbitant. Really tempted by the pirate ship too; wonder how it stacks up to the $125 packages ships and/or the $250. If I'm correct, the Pirate pack ($100?) actually includes a copy of the game, yes?

If they could guarantee a Linux client I'd bite right now... I'm a bit worried if they're going to be making it on the CryEngine3 though...

RSI, most of the low end stuff is sold out. 35 dollar deal, take it!!!

Once we hit 4.5mil backing (which is going to happen any minute now) all previous stretch goals on kickstarter will be unlocked for RSI pledgers as well. If you pledge through RSI they get more of the proceeds instead of kickstarter taking a percentage.

I'm not sure about the titles. They might just be a given name so people know what package you are talking about.

As for the ships - what you're paying for is a permanently insured unlocked version of that ship. So regardless of how many times it gets blown up you will still have the hull (as for any attached upgrades; I'd expect those to get destroyed). All ships available through pledging can be earned through normal gameplay. Even the permanent insurance is available in game (but I imagine it will be VERY expensive).

The Pirate Pack you see on the upgrade screen is actually different than the "Avast Mateys (digital)" pledge on the main site. The pirate pack ($100) is a ship and skin upgrade for people that have already purchased the game. Avast Mateys ($110) includes a copy of the game with alpha/beta access, soundtrack, map, and only the ship, no skins.

Admittedly the prices of the ships themselves are a bit steep - but it's for a good cause and at least you're getting something in compensation. If you're in doubt, go with the $35 or $60 pack and earn the rest through normal gameplay.

I paid the $60 version because it gives me a lot to start with but gives me even more to look forward to when playing. I seriously can't wait. I'm going to buy a new joystick set this holiday. Probably the Thrustmaster Hotas joystick set.

Very helpful, thank you. I wonder... I do wish the Subscription options would be able to add to one's pledge. For instance, if someone started out with a $35 package, but subscribed with the $20/month subscription, then 4 months later they could pick an "upgrade" to one of the $110 packs of their choice or any other combination. As it seems there is a bit over a day left and we're about to hit 4.5 million, I'll decide tomorrow what path to take... its unwise to make financial decisions at 1 AM!

Those who've picked a package on RSI...when you go to your account and look at your pledges, is the option to upgrade to any other pledge (in addition to the add-ons) present? Does anyone know if this will continue past the official close of crowdfunding after tomorrow? I am guessing they will be taking no new pledges, but I'd feel a lot better about just locking in something right now if I knew I could upgrade to one of the three-figure pledges and addons later, even after tomorrow!

pledge upgrades and add-ons are two separate things. as for upgrades, you can upgrade to the regular physical tiers so far. you will be able to upgrade your pledge after this funding period is over. you will be able to pledge on the rsi website after this initial funding period is over, but it will likely cost more, and some of the exclusive offers (special skins, limited-offer ships) will not be available.

if anyone wants to pledge, but hasn't done so yet, you can use a friend's referral link (here's mine) to get an extra 250 credits and a chance to win some swag. if you pledged on the kickstarter page, you can still enter to win. you'll be sent a survey at the end of the funding period asking if anyone recruited you (my rsi name is the same.. Cyco-Dude ). if you've already pledged on the rsi website and you want 250 more credits and a change to win some swag, click on the "your account" link at the top and enter my (or a friends, whatever) e-mail or user name into the referrer box. it's the last day to win some cool stuff; get it while you can.
