Ok so I am selling my macbook pro and I am going to buy a cheaper laptop and build a desktop. The desktop I want to build is going to be a mini itx machine in a small profile lian li case, the thing is the case only supports single slot video cards that are <7" long. I see that the geforce GTX 650 Ti is only 6" which is perfect, but I cant seem to find any that are single slot which is strange because it seems that the nvidia reference version is single slot but non of vendors are making them that way. Anyway can anyone help me locate one? (preferrably the 1GB model, but I am not that picky)

Btw if you want a sweeeet macbook pro lol

you could always swap the heatsink to a single slot cooler as well?

http://hothardware.com/Reviews/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-650-Ti-RoundUp/
The GeForce GTX 650 Ti has a TDP of 110 watts and requires a single, supplemental 6-pin PCI express power feed. Cards are two-slot wide, but sport a short 5.65" PCB. The output configuration consists of 2 x DVI outputs and 1 mini-HDMI output, but the GPU supports up to four independent displays, so some parts may release cards with four outputs as well.

In terms of appearance, the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650 Ti is nothing like the other video cards in the GeForce GTX 600-series. Its squat 1.15" height requires two card slots for installation while allowing plenty of clearance, while the 5.65" long profile makes this is one of the smallest GTX's to come from NVIDIA in a very long time. In it's reference form, the GeForce GTX 650 Ti should easily fit most installations with room to spare. The majority of double-size video cards measure 1.5" tall, so with GTX 650 Ti being closer to the 0.75" single-slot height it's feasible we might see some NVIDIA partners creating such a design.

The reduced transistor count means a substantially reduced TDP of just 64 watts, although oddly Nvidia specifies that the card still requires a 6-pin PCI-E power connector and a full-height dual slot cooler.

hmmmm, what you may be looking for then is the GTX 650 non ti for the single slot models?

So it does appear there are some "classed" as single slot, but are not true single, rather they are less thick then duals but also thicker then singles, so if period it has to be single slot thick or it will not work, then you`re only option might be to replace the stock cooler with maybe a thinner fan or different cooler?

I know you specified the 650 but there is also this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...grabb3r-_-Video+Cards-_-PowerColor-_-14131477 which does fit your dimensions. It will be similar performance wise, not quite as fast, but a bump in clock speeds, and newer drivers will def help mitigate this.
shame this wouldn`t fit as it def would be faster http://www.losias.net/showthread.php/814-Afox-Single-Slot-7850

Hope this helped some.

I have considered this but I cant seem to find one. As far as going with the vanilla GTX 650 vs the GTX 650 Ti I would really rather not, the vanilla only has 384 shaders where as the Ti has 768 shaders... HUGE difference. I would also like to stay with Nvidia over ATI, I am going to be doing some work with some CUDA enabled applications in the future which is going to require an Nvidia GPU. Also the GTX 650 Ti is right in my price range (especially the 1GB version).... if someone could point me to a 3rd party single slot cooler that will fit that card then thats probably my best bet, any thoughts?

It should also be pointed out here, that if you look close you can see that the heatsink is taller than the single slot. This means you will still need to leave the slot below the GTX 650 Ti open, even though it’s officially only a single slot design.

Do you know how much room there is left over as in there is not even a few mm to spare. As I seen a few times, even the "reference" Nvidia designed one while is a single slot because of the back io plate, due to thickness its "recomended" to have the second slot there, however, its only slightly taller then a pure single slot would be.

FY08015M12LAA is the fan used for the "reference design" http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga.html are a couple of coolers, however I do not think most of them would qualify "thin enough" to make it into a pure single slot design, the L2 plus and L2 mono are quite close though if you look, and they are listed as compatible, you may be able to "shave" the heatsink to get it thinner?
http://www.zalman.com/eng/product/Product_Read.php?Idx=136 I have used these to mod my 6870 and got great results. Believe it or not, a drop of MX4 and a drop of crazy glue held these heatsinks on very well, and they cooled very well, very good heat transfer and still working fine over 1 year later. provided you get a heatsink that covers the core properly and securely and a thin enough but decent cfm cooling fan you could always "make" your own cooler. I know it wouldn`t be ideal, but there really does not seem to be many aftermarket coolers and no true and pure single slot designs. The only way I see is make, or liquid cool it.

this is the case that I will be using http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112372

it does have some space below where the expansion card goes but it only has one physical slot... the reference designed GTX 650 Ti would fit perfectly but I am not sure that artic cooling heatsink will, it looks like it stands up off the board a bit because of the heatpipes whereas the reference cooler is flush to the board and only slightly sticks out above the top of the cards i/o plate.

Problem is... no one seems to make a reference version of the card. Sometimes I understand vendors making special cooling or minor PCB changes... but reference designs should be more accessible, Nvidia does know what they are doing after all.

If anyone sees a reference style GTX 650 Ti please let me know.

I've got an oldish Thermalright V1 Ultra that I was planning on using for my 650 Ti. Cut the PCI bracket to a single slot and trim down the fins on the Ultra just a tad to make it a single slot.

I was planning on doing that but I needed a card with the PCIe plug facing up and the only 2gig card like that was from Zotac with a stacked DVI connector.

There is no such thing. Nvidia has let their partners decide how to make the 650's and they decided to make the Ti pin compatible with the 650's PCB. The point is is that you won't find a retail version of the reference card since they were only made to show off to their partners and for possible review samples.

Reference Board
Slot Width: Dual-slot
Length:6 inches,152 mm
TDP:110 W
Outputs:2x DVI 1x mini-HDMI

So yeh, unless you mod a cooler or cooling solution to fit by say clipping the bracket, you may be SOL. It does look like there is space for a thinner dual slot card, but, it is a single slot(I looked at some pictures)

http://im.tech2.in.com/gallery/2012/sep/galaxy_gtx_650_ports_261236467899_640x360.jpg this for example could be "clipped" and while a bit thicker then single slot is still thinner then a true dual slot.
http://www.techpowerup.com/gpudb/b369/POV_GTX_650_Ti.html
using a artic cooling again occupying dual slot, again, clip it to make it single slot, but it will be thicker

I don`t know, I think cooling will be a big issue as spacing obviously is. I have seen some really nice smaller cube type cases with nowhere near the same space constraints, but hey its your build, all I can do is offer suggestions.

looking closely at this card it looks pretty much identical to the reference card except EVGA extended the fan shroud to the I/O plate and gave it a double stack I/O plate instead of a single... I will probably order the case first and take some exact measurements and compare it to the thickness of the card. But it looks like if I cut the I/O plate in half and trimmed back the fan shroud this card would probably fit.

on second thought that galaxy that you linked looks even thinner... all it would take is the I/O plate being sawed in half, should fit like a dream

well, that evga card might be a tad better in one regard. If you notice the backplate, even after you trim it down a bit there would be some air space to allow the card to blow some of the heat out of the slot, this could be very usefull, course you could again mod things to allow this, but why make it tougher then it needs to be.

I am glad you may have found something that could be of use :)

Yea I really appreciate it, that galaxy one looks to be the ticket! thanks again :)
