Old story, embarrassing

formatted the wrong disk, installed an OS on it

I have heard tales of powerful and mysterious programs that recognize files that are no longer indexed on a volume, can somebody steer me in the right direction?
 
hahah This made me smile =) Hope that program works out for you. GL
I used to have one but its only able to recover un written data.
ANd you seem to have written an OS ontop of it o_O

Any recovery software will only be able to recover the files that were NOT already overwritten with new data.

I've had good luck with EaseUs Data Recovery.

Add a few opiates (dilaudid, morphine, oxycodone or methadone) and you won't care about it......least it's always worked for me :D

After a format and reinstall you have zero chance of any recovery.

I have used Recuva but yea since you have overwritten some of the files already, likely too late.
 
Rule: When doing OS/formatting tasks, I physically unplug all other drives from my system to ensure this doesn't happen. And plus, you had a backup of your data anyways right? :)

OK ok, I AM A SINNER!! and I have lied to you all

Here is the truth, laptop hit my bench as salvage, girl I know brought it, belonged to a girlfriend of hers...hottie.

Drive supposed to have homemade pron on it so the girl that brought it made me format the drive in front of her... ... ...

gave up and scrapped the drive

used part of the PCB to make a SATA to Molex power adapter, the rest goes in the Au bin, chassis in the Al bin, neodymium on the fridge

no pron for me
 
I wish...the drive had problems to begin with, kept hanging every system I tried to manipulate it with

the magnets are on the fridge now
