So with my busy life i have not looked one tiny bit at Windows 8 reviews or how's it running.
I am very happy with my Windows 7 PC. Again with my busy life i dont have much time to game on my dekstop. I use my laptop and my desktop mainly for work and web..
Is there any point to upgrade to windows 8? My Desktop is in my Sig below.
I mainly use my desktop when i work from home, VPN, Word, Excel, ect.

Nope you don't need it and if you haven't been involved to this point... you won't want it, oh and we probably didn't need another thread on Windows 8.

Oh boy, donning my firesuit...
Wait until it's released. Walk into a store and play with it for an hour. You decide.

I agree. With so many extreme opposite opinions on it with all types of expertise (from techies to beginners), it's best to try it out before you jump in. Give it more than 10 minutes, though. At first, it's a shock. Then, it gets real easy to use and if you use the live tiles right, it is fairly awesome. It's not perfect. Not at all. There are somethings that you'll shake your head at, but they aren't that big of a deal. Just annoying. But, if you're on the fence and haven't used it, you need to. Either you'll hate it like many others, or you'll love it like some of us. It's definitely not for everyone.

I use it and love it (ok, I like it). For every 10 replies saying "It's cool once you get used to it", you'll get a dozen other replies saying "stay away! It sucks!".

And I figure I'll hop in and third KENNYB's suggestion.

I use Windows 8 as well and like it quite a lot actually. Like Ur_Mom said, it's not perfect but it's got a lot of nice things as well (new task manager, file copy, etc)

I like Windows 8. Been using RTM for a while now and I actually prefer it over Windows 7. I tried out the Start8 software but actually removed it. I find the tiles easier to work with to open up programs. I think of Windows 8 like it's Windows 7, just with some extra. Desktop move is just fine.

Other than that, if you are very happy with Windows 7, stick with that.

Yes, the only way to know is to try it out for yourself. Obviously some people think Windows 8 is the Devil incarnate and others think it's fine on the desktop and even like it. One thing to keep in mind is that there are going to be TONS on Metro apps coming out for Windows 8, most of which will not be great but a few here and there that will probably be cool even on desktops. And at some point if one is a vested Windows user, I think that they are going to need to get into this OS. It's highly unlikely at this point that Microsoft is just going to dump the Modern UI and hybrid design or have a switch to turn it all off. Anything can happen but it's going to be very difficult for Microsoft to completely change direction with all of the partners and investments their making in Metro apps and new touch hardware.

I just need to find out if my sonic wall vpn will work with it or not, i had no problems with 7, If that dont work i have no point in it.... I use that a lot... But thanks for all the input and i will play with it at best buy when they have it out

You've just answered your own question.

If you like your current setup and know nothing about Windows 8 why even consider upgrading? Windows 7 will be around for years. If you ever change your mind and see an actual reason to upgrade, Windows 8 will still be there.

Very True, I just like to have the latest stuff out there, and of course good ole Microsoft has been hyping up 8 so damn much...

I too and updating my system soon, have Windows 7 64bit now, and it runs great. But I like new tech and stuff, is Windows 8 good for gaming yet ? Better or worse performance than Win7 in games ?

I am sure besides gaming, I would enjoy the fresh new look and feel of Windows 8, I am always up for something different, but not if it sacrifices gaming ?
