- 3 warzones playable per week
- 3 dungeons playable per week
- 3 playable races
- free players have to buy sprint
- free players have to pay money to equip epic(purple) gear

more here: http://www.swtor.com/free/features

also, only current subs get cartel coins, so if you left and were hoping to come back don't expect to have any currency without buying it.

free players who spend money in the cash shop will have "preferred" status and be able to get a movement speed boost.

i dont see this model being effective enough to bring players in.

they are trying to keep subs in place and its just not gonna work. either go F2P or dont.

this has half ass all over it. single cheek all day.

Seriously half-assed attempt to get people to play.

Sure you can play, but we're gonna cripple about 95% of the game.....

They ought to just put a bullet in the head of the server and bury the damn thing.

They've spent so much money making this game that they can't help but half ass it. It must be a pride thing I guess.

It's a great singleplayer game that you can play with your friends.

It works for me. All I care about is checking out the stories. I have no interest in the social stuff or traditional MMO crap. However I also have no interest in paying for anything.

Free players have to buy sprint WTF. Go back in your hole Stalin Arts.

lol there goes any thought of me re-subbing or even playing while its free to play. Nice job EA :)

If I play, I'll be absolutely sure to be exactly the kind of free-to-play customer that EA doesn't want...the kind that doesn't give them a dime.

Preferred Status - Making a purchase will unlock access to the following features:
The ability to run faster (Sprint) starting at Level 1.
Cargo Hold access (Bank Slots) and higher login queue priority.
Increased access to Chat and Secure Trading.

lol.

These restrictions are just idiotic. It's like somebody loaning your a car for free but gives your these aweful use restrictions.

1.You can only turn left three times a day.
2. You can only drive 10 miles every 3 days.
3. You can use the rear view mirrors with the purchase of a "vision" pack".
5. You can go over 50 Mph with a "speed pack".

Forget this. I would rather buy the car.

Well, this does put SWTOR near the top of MMOs that I will play, behind only:

WoW, GW2, TSW, EVE, Age of Conan, Vanguard, Rift, EQ2, LotRO, Ryzom, FF XIV, Aion...

I'm sure that I am missing some.

I liked SWTOR for a few months, but like always since 2000, I keep drifting back to EQ1. I know it looks miserable by today's standards, but there is just something I enjoy about that world. I came back recently as a free player, but upped to paid and am now on one of the pay only servers, Vox. EQ1 still has much enjoyment to offer.

I played until I was 50 (that was the max right?). Got bored as soon as I hit it even though I was the GL of a very large guild on our server.

I can honestly say that I would have rather had KOTOR3 released instead of this garbage. It felt like a reskinned WoW with HUGE maps and boring sidequests.

Least I got to marry my companion before I quit :D

I'm playing and I will... have already 8 lev 50s, now working on other 4. Love this game, love the community, and when it hits F2P, I'll continue to be subscriber.

What I relaly like, is that F2P crowd will have chat restrictions on, so prefferably they won't ruin RP events and good RPs - yep SWTOR RP servers is what the game is really about.

This.

Had 3 50s. valor 100 on one of them. once facerolling people with my maruder got boring, I realized there is absolutely nothing else to do in the game.

this should have had a guild wars type ftp model from the getgo. EA completely TORpedo'd it

I agree that is a great single player game that can be played with your friends. I think there are just too many MMOs and general games these days that no one has the attention span to stay with. When WoW finally dies I feel like this will just become more segmented.

I'd do it if they sold the game for an upfront cost, and I didn't have to deal with all the restrictions that make the game useless.

I don't really see this freemium thing working too well for them. I don't get the whole idea of wanting F2P to revive SWTOR, and then insisting that free players need to get nickled and dimed from the starting gate. When I first heard the game was going F2P I thought about trying it out again but now I have lost quite a bit of interest. I understand them wanting to give subscribers a reason to stay subscribed but it seems like they don't really want free players to play the game.

When F2P models work, it's because they make their money off of convenience, cosmetic, & novelty items. When F2P models fail, it's because they are implemented in a way that restricts gameplay, and usually is designed to try and milk as much cash out of the average player as possible. Looks like a final cash grab before they shut it down, I think EA wants to forget about SWTOR and a sure way of doing that is making it inaccessible to everyone so no on will want to play and they can shut it down for good, but not before one final cash grab.

This is just more proof that EA is so far off the deep end when it comes to this game it just ran all the HUGE potential into the ground.

I have to say overall SW:TOR is the single biggest disappointment for me personally in years. I was so ready for a truly "good" Star Wars MMO (Sorry , Galaxies sucked a fat dick and Sony drastically altered it again and again over the years and it still sucked).

Guess we will NEVER get a good Star Wars MMO even though the Universe is ripe with lore.

trust me, you're not alone...the forums were gang busters with excitement prior to launch..people were so excited about the crafting/companions/different classes..man, we all just wanted to roleplay in that world...I truly had no problem paying a sub fee for that world also..i was prepared to pay it for years

and boom !! they managed to fuck it up...they should all be fired...in partial defense of bioware, i believe lucasarts had a choke hold on their creativity...and they went overboard with the voice acting, the '4th pillar'...for christ sake, they weren't making a star wars movie..it was a bloody mmo/game !!!

thats why 'fantasy' worlds can be so creative...there's no copyright laws on gutting dwarfs

I would still love to see a REAL 'fallout'/alternate universe sandbox world one day

You can't really blame Lucasarts though. The game's major problems were with basic design, not the creativity. The companions sound great on paper, but when you put them in the game, they remove any need for grouping (not that there was much of a need to start with). The mod system was way more complicated than it needed to be and should have been removed in favor of just a Rift style wardrobe system. The "advanced" class idea was really pointless, you should have just started as your class. Space missions were a tacked-on rail shooter, that while an OK diversion, added nothing to the game. And yes, way too much worrying about voice acting and movies.

And the F2P stuff really makes it clear that EA is doing a final cash grab before shutting the game down. If it makes it to next summer I'll be surprised.

Same here :( I was so excited for TOR. I was following every news blurb, screenshot, video, etc since it was just a whispered rumor.

They dropped the ball SO badly with this game, it's almost hard to believe. The extra sad part is, they were just starting to patch things up enough where I thought there might be a light at the end of the tunnel. They improved the framerate performance hugely, they fixed bugs, they added a warzone and two instances right off the bat, and then.... essentially nothing for six months. All we got were two raid instances. What do they have planned for new content? A new companion character, which every single class has access to (and both Republic and Imperial) which everyone will finish and be bored with in about 3 days... then the content will be dried up again for several months.

Oh well, at least I got a neat Darth Malgus statue with my CE. :(

Being involved in RP and/or a very good guild can make a great game awesome, and a ok mmo great.

Just one of the differences with the more social mmos & other multi player games...

I won't even log back into the game for that set of f2p features. You can't even equip purple armor on f2p. 3 warzones per week (if you are familiar with warzones in this game, you know that could be anywhere from 5 minutes of play to 45 minutes, weekly).

hmmf? this game is still around?

Is it the biggest bust ever?

A friend of mine was all pumped for this game. I said, wait and see. If it is good, it will be great.

Guess not. He wasted $$ and I didn't.

Really advise everyone to do so. Especially with MMOs. Give it a month and see if the company has it's shit together I always say.

I think they really missed the mark by limiting free accounts so much. They should have just opened up the game and cashed in with a micro transaction store selling tons of pets, gear skins, extra bag slots, and all the other junk most F2P games have.

Or they could have followed LOTROs model and sold content packs for a few $ without restricting the game so much.

Fun the first run through. Then it's all downhill from there. I've played single player games that has more replayability than this. Can't believe I paid $70 for the digital deluxe version.
