What are your other specs, what are you using it for, and are you stretching your budget too much or are these well within your budget?

depends on the GPU and the cooler,

7970 or 670 the 7970 will clock further and offer better performance example the Powercolor Vortex II 7970 is $440 its pre clocked at 1100 MHz which makes it faster than reference GTX 680s and its damn quiet.

that said if they are Direct Cu II models then the GTX 680 is better because ASUS locked the voltage on their 7970s to only be unlocked when using ROG connect or w.e which is a giant pain,

Powercolor and Sapphire are the better options for the 7970s in that regard.

I have the Direct CU2 670 and love it - insanely quiet. Also, having physx for stuff like Borderlands is awesome. If you plan to play games like Borderlands or Batman, go with nvidia.

Wanna back that up? A review of the powercolor shows it holding even with the reference 680, not beating. Tweaktown as the source.
