I get:
The promo code EMCYTZT2258 is not active yet. Please check the program details for activation dates.

Edit: Nvm forgot to see that's its 9AM-Noon

I guess this is 9 AM West Coast Time? it is already past 9 AM here in the East Coast and the promo code is still not active.

I think its time to update my clunker and I believe this is a fair price... How trouble-free are this drives? I love my Samsung TV but it does not mean much in the grand scheme of things :D

It's a great drive. Great reliability and nice performance. I assume they are clearing out stock for the 840 series.

I'm very tempted to replace my 2x Crucial M4 128GB for one of these 256GB Samsungs. That way if I wanted to down the road, I could double up on the Samsung in RAID0 for more space.

Just so you know, Samsung just announced the 840 series of drives, so this might be hard to accomplish if you wait too long to snag another one. I suspect they are clearing out the 830's before widespread availability of the 840 drives.

I will wait on this. Either there will be more 830's much cheaper or the 840's will be around this price :D

If anyone is interested in picking one of these up, I'd grab one right after it goes live, because newegg will probably pretend it's out of stock before noon lol

Yeah, I was doing cheetah flips when I though this would end up at $109, then doing the reading and completely underwhelmed... I guess if you were already planning on getting one it'd be a decent bonus.

Yeah, I agree with you guys, $170 for a drive that is being replaced by a newer drive still seems spendy to me.

Still waiting for that magical $150 or less on a high-end 256 GB Samsung/Crucial/Intel drive.

2 x 256GB in RAID 0 is the way to go!

Had that array but that didn't impress me much. Running them separately works better IMO, trim works and speeds are super solid as they are. For everyday normal use, the speed increase in raid doesn't really show.

But I'm waiting for the 840s

Understandable what you say, but when the 840, it's going to cost more than $170; perormance comes at a premium.

If you're in the market for a good drive at a cheap price, this is nice. But if you want the best drive, I'd wait.

Snagged one. Thanks OP. It will be my first SSD. Not the fastest drive out there but good enough and a good reliability record. Not the bestest best deal either but I don't want to wait too much longer and it is within my limited budget.

Maybe I'll wait until it gets lower. I don't absolutely need the space right now since I run my Steam folder and most of my apps on my 2x640GB WD AALS drives.

Dang it, I just bought one last week lol. I couldn't wait though. It will be interesting to see how low these drop with the 840's coming out in October.

Comparing the 830 and 840, I doubt you would see a real world difference in performance between the 2 (unless you crunch databases all day and need the High IOPS). I bit on this as I was waiting for a deal on the samsung drives.

520/400 compared to the 840's 540/450.

"The 840 Pro should sell for a 25 - 30% premium over the current 830." <-- Not enough of a jump in performance for me to wait for it. I would only wait if you want to see how much lower the SSD's can go in price before they bottom out.

I agree with the above, especially the last thing you said, but whatever to Anand's unscientific SSD reviews...

I just tried, said the promotional code was no longer valid... :(

On a side note, anyone know of a cheap 3.5 to 2.5 adapter? The drive doesn't come with one. TIA

Picked one of these up for my new build. Was lucky to snag one through this Newegg deal. Nice find OP!

I missed it :(

I'm sure there will be more deals on it, probably even before Black Friday/Cyber Monday. The 840 & 840 Pro come out mid October and they'll be cheaper for Samsung to manufacture in the long run so the 830 will get cleared out in short order.

The Pro's better in every way but unless you're a benchmark jockey or you're running some really hardcore database or something I doubt you'd notice... The 830's technically more durable than the plain 840. Anyway, the next month or so is gonna be a really good time to look for deals on the 830.

840 Pro might be worth the premium for a laptop tho, crazy low power consumption.

just put a pair of these in raid 0... holy hell is that fast!

Amazon has the 128gb version for $89.99 right now. I'm wondering if I should bite the bullet or just wait for the 840 although I'm sure that thing is going to come with a price tag...

If your sig is correct and you're on a 1366 mobo, the SATA 3Gbps interface is going to be the limiting factor for most current/last generation SSDs.

Regardless of SATA 3Gbps or 6Gbps, any SSD these days will be fast enough, which leaves reliability and price. The 830 has a great and proven track record wrt reliability, so if the price is right go for it.

Interface's only gonna limit large switch sequential transfers (installs, large file operations, etc.). Random I/O isn't really gonna be bottlenecked by SATA interface.

Anyone figured out the Norton Ghost ordeal? Supposedly the drive comes with it (Per Samsungs website, every 830 comes with it). The instruction manual for Ghost is on the CD, but no Ghost in any folder. You can download Ghost from the Samsung support website, but it requires a serial which I dont see anywhere. I have tried the Serial/Bar code on the CD sleeve, but I think thats just a part # and not a Norton Serial. It was not valid.

I have since put the drive in my laptop and cloned my Intel drive with Acronis. Just wondering why Ghost is stated as being included, when its not. While the box that the drive comes in is smaller then one would think, its retail, so its not like its an OEM package.

Just curious.

EDIT: Errr nm. Seemed after looking I may have answered my own question. It looks like the Model number ending in "N" is the "Notebook upgrade kit" version which includes Ghost along with a USB cable. Im guessing the version we purchased which ends in a "B" may be "Bare"? Where it only includes the Drive and Samsung Magician Software.
