Damn, at first I thought they were talking about a warrant for Eric Schmidt. Too bad. ;)

A judge has ordered the arrest of the president of Google's operations in Brazil for failure to remove You Tube videos that attacked a mayoral candidate. The order to arrest Fabio Jose Silva Coelho was issued Monday by Judge Flavio Peren of Mato Grosso do Sul state. It was prompted by two videos containing disparaging remarks against Alcides Bernal who is running for mayor of the city of Campo Grande.

Nanny state much? Our citizens are not responsible for their actions, Google is.

Google should just fire back and domain block .br from everything it owns for a month or so

LOL. Brazil has more strict censorship laws than most people would imagine (based on what you mentioned anyway). It seems that it just applies to political BS as opposed to other sorts of things...

Is it me, or does a large part of the world not understand that whole freedom of speech thing?

Brazil is a socialist government. It's has been this way for a long time. The government is corrupt, the laws are not enforced, and there is a shit ton of impunity. Government only steps in for "censorship" when its political. When its political, you can be killed. Nobody cares about "protective/(sexual)" censorship in the Brazilian government. It's all political and corrupt, just like this story.

If I was president of Google..I'd block everything going to Brazil for a while..see how they like it.

fucking primates, they graduate on these worthless brazilian monkey universities and send me the bill to pay for idiotic shit like that. if it wasn't for such an easy life half-drunk barely having to work and with plenty of chicks i would spend a few months cooking homemade petn, rdx, astrolite.. would fucking blow them all public service goons, but is such an easy life... chicks are hot too.. hmm fuck it why bother? :p

and there is a shit ton of impunity.

well thats the good part!

Did anyone understand what is being said here?

What? Brazil is not a socialist country. By the contrary it is a capitalist country with all that it takes to that: exploring poor and working classes so the wealthy can be more wealthy.

As for the arrest of the Google executive, it is well deserved. Google keeps playing this "we're not responsible" card and takes a while to remove the content (it has happened in many cases, including someone posting sex videos from a TV star in Brazil and Google refused to take down the videos - only took them down in the same conditions as these). The judge ordered the removal of the said video a week ago, so there is no excuse for Google not to remove the video. Google may be not liable as to the video being uploaded, but once there is a court order for it removal they must obey it. I would think in the US, if someone post a video without proof accusing anyone of doing criminal acts that a court would also grant an injunction for Google to take down the content.

By the way, the Supreme Court in Brazil is condemning over 30 politics, government employees and executives that participated in the biggest corruption scheme in Brazil.

Have you ever even been to YouTube? It is filled with videos of people accusing others and the commentators all think we are gay... The US government does not step in because we have something called freedom of speech. Like it or not, it is an evolved ideal.

And with your logic I should be able to arrest you for making a rather false statement and accusing the president of Google for doing wrong... Please remove your post before the authorities step in... or do you want a court order? :(

Are you an idiot?
Partido da Social Democracia Brasileira the previous party in power. Socialist. The current heading party that is in power (Dilma as president) is Partido dos Trabalhadores whos entire philsophy is a thing called petismo, which is another word for socialism.

You have no idea what you are trying to talk about.

The country has worsened a lot since the populist worker party took over. They bought the majority vote with welfare but failed to fix the poverty/pay discrepancy problem itself, and once in control they began censoring media and passing legislation setting the country back decades. Brazilians can't buy imports because the government inflates the dollar making it super expensive to buy American goods, and even if they buy any goods they have to pay ridiculous fees to the government in taxes.

It's almost 10 years of the socialist party in power and it keeps getting worse. Here's to hoping the Brazilian people wake up to this and demand reform.

Just fyi I'm not conservative, I'm moderate.

Government, no matter the form, depends highly on the enlightenment of the members of the particular society.

LOL it does sound like that but its not like it sounds ^^ ah ok i guess i have to explain a little, will try to keep it short so is not boring :D

im 30, single (by choice, never could stay faithfull to a single woman), studied until 26, did it all the way, couldnt swallow those ridiculous fantasia BS from religion not even when i was little (i think i believed in santa though) so no afterlife and reincarnation for me (if it was like that i would setup a nice bank account and alternate between working and living on a beach through reincarnations), i always liked to read books, about mostly everything, so i was reading one of those plato dialogues (the republic), i guess it was in 2003, and reached somewhere in that book the conclusion that if youre forced to work everyday to maintain a living, youre nothing but a common slave... well that bothered me so later in 2009 i managed to set up my own business, a small business, worked a few months very hard to manage to set it on autopilot, have two employees, and being working about two days a week ever since, dont even remember how a alarm clock sound anymore.

basically im not an ant, im a conscious being, if the rest of the world wants to believe in jesus, marry and have children and slave themselves working just to die later because other people do the same, fuck them, theres free will, so im claiming mine, i could expand my business and make a lot of money but i choose to be able to have free time above all, life's is too short and i hate alarm clocks.

phew! haha! :D

and oh, i just fucking looooove those worthless dumbfucks from the brazilian public service as you might have already guessed...

You guys who are calling Brazil a socialist country, I have some statistics for you. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_inequality-adjusted_HDI

HDI is a combination of education, income, and life expectancy.

According to the report, the IHDI is a "measure of the average level of human development of people in a society once inequality is taken into account. It captures the HDI of the average person in society, which is less than the aggregate HDI when there is inequality in the distribution of health, education and income. Under perfect equality, the HDI and IHDI are equal; the greater the difference between the two, the greater the inequality." In that sense, "the IHDI is the actual level of human development (taking into account inequality), while the HDI can be viewed as an index of the potential human development that could be achieved if there is no inequality."

Socialist countries in Scandinavia only lose about 6% of their overall rank when you adjust for inequality. European countries and other advanced countries lose about 8% of their overall rank. Corporatist countries like the US lose about 15% of their overall rank. Brazil loses 27% of its overall rank.

Brazil is closer to the banana republics of South America and the dictatorships of Africa than it is to any socialist country.

Is it me, or does a large part of the world not understand that whole freedom of speech thing?

Freedom of speech is something we enjoy (in some form) here in the US. This does not automatically apply to other countries, unless you were being sarcastic.

He wasn't speaking of it in a legal sense gut an ideological one.

I'm sorry for this, but I'm going to have to ask you to surrender the ideological gut to us. We can't have any of those wandering around here without proper registration.

I don't think it would be emotionally satisfying.

You're probably right, but I don't think my kitty would really care. I mean, just look at him being all pirate-y and stuff.
