Bah no more MAK for servers
well...yeah... but you can get 3 keys for datacenter... and the datacenter one u can have unlimited virtual machines right?
anyways... whatever downloading now.. going to mess with it some over the next week or so, see about migrating my home domain to it before too long here.

I've got a hyper-v cluster with 5 nodes and a couple of odds and ends servers running 2012 already.
I'm not very impressed with the usability in an RDP window, but like Win8, I suppose I'll get used to it.

Why are you torturing yourself rather than using classic shell?

I never log into the machines...
SCVMM to manage the VMMS, RSAT for everything else. If I want to use the "console", I can just start powershell.

The "Metro" UI.... I get the gripes about this on a Win8 desktop/workstation. For 2012, though... I'm kinda liking it. Its not often I pull out multiple windows on a server. Most of what I'd be looking for on a day to day is just right there.

You know, I couldn't quite put my finger on why Metro on Server 2012 seems to work surprisingly well. But now that you mentioned it, I think that's exactly why, I only use one app at a time on a server.

Dude, you're doing it wrong. You need 50 chrome tabs open while listening to iTunes on your "Server 2012 Workstation" that's been Frankenstein'd to get everything to work like it does in 8.
What server OS was it again that ran better (for both gaming and general use it seemed) than its desktop counterpart back in the day? Server 2003 was it?

Both 2008 (64 bit) and 2008 R2 work flawlessly with gaming once you have everything setup correctly.

Its because its not like the metro in the client version. All they did was change it from a start menu to a start screen. Our servers drop straight to desktop as well.
Im working on migration our VM hosts from 2008 R2 to a new 2012 hyperv cluster using CSV and converged fabric. Just finished the initial ssetup/tests today and it is amazing. Its crazy to see it do a Live Migration and move multiple VMs to another host at the same time in 20 seconds with no downtime.
