How about a little extra room…..say for an additional 3400 engineers? The recent downturns for Facebook apparently have no effect on the plans to stretch out and grow. Facebook just finished moving into its new quarters within the last year and is already looking to expand to new space across the road.

Engineers can even escape to the rooftop for some fresh air, where a garden will span the entire roof. The campus will include a garden at ground level as well.

At least they are creating some new jobs, that's something.
What did Apple do with their multi-million dollar data center? Oh yeah, seven jobs, woo.

What amazes me how badly their service sucks for having thousands of talented people working on it all the time.

Seven jobs seems a little low for a corporate data center, but not by much. You really just need one person available 24/7 for poking machines, and a security person too, by hours in the week, that gives you eight people; although maybe security is contracted out so you didn't count those jobs. Would probably be nice to have maybe one or two more people for normal business or normal change hours so big (hardware) changes don't swamp your one guy.

3400 engineers to figure out how to make facebook make money for its new owners.

Speaking of data centers, on a random note. Switch is building two SuperNAPs behind my house. Like, I can see them from my bedroom window.

Think they'll allow me to tap their pipe?

There was an article on it about 4 months ago.

Corporations aren't charities. They hire the number of employees they need, no more no less. Not sure why you'd think otherwise or bring it up at all.

The same way Congress can never get anything done. Too many people bickering with each other with one goal - to pass laws. 3400 Facebook engineers similarly have one goal - provide Facebook services to the customers.

Isn't that basically how Rome fell?

[H] standard operating procedure:
- First!!!
- Read headline
- Ignore article
- Involve Apple (regardless of subject)
- Next!!!

You can say that all you want but Apple still makes inferior products and just price gouges the isheeple....wait...

You know, at first I thought FB switching to the timeline format was a real pain in the ass, but now that I've stepped back a little to look at it from the outside in, it's actually a fairly brilliant move. Think about it. The timeline format is patented, it's protected, and what other social media developer is going to be able to woo over users to their format when you are locking into the timeline format. The timeline format itself is self protecting of facebooks IP. The only way that could be portable is if they made it that way and I seriously doubt that would ever happen.

In effect, to move over to another social site would mean starting all over again from the day you join. That may be to daunting for a majority of FB's users to contemplate.
