This is the next sim title from Kunos, makers of Nerkar pro and Ferrari Virtual Academy{I have both games}, but this is by far their most comprehensive game to date that includes laser scanned tracks and mod friendly approach.

If you own Netkar, you'll have the option of dling the tech demo{test for bugs}, but there's also going to be a normal demo released approx 6 weeks after that, so you'll be able to test it one way or another.

Price should just be $50-$60, but this is nothing, as a good sim can last for yrs, and mods and DLC will keep it interesting.

PC sims work best with a FFB wheel like a G27, but you can always buy a cheap and nasty Logitech DFGT, but I don't recommend it, go straight for G27 and get a huge quality and performance boost.

This could become my full time MP racer, as rf2 is all over the place atm, and probably won't be viable for 6months or more.

If Kunos get this right{and all indications from Gamescom are positive}, then we'll have another great sim maker who can join the ranks of Reiza Studio's{Game Stock Car 2012}, Simbin and ISI.

For those who're new to PC sims, know that they come with both a learning curve and a difficulty curve, however, once you actually learn how to drive race cars, your skills are transferable so you can drive any sim and get up to speed quicksmart.

PC sims have a quality of FFB and precision that arcade racers can't get near, and Kunos is famous for his FFB.

Looks promising. Hopefully we're getting into a time where PC racing sims won't look like hairy arse anymore.

Nah, simbin did it with EVO and the Retro pack.

Graphically speaking a side step at best and a step backward at worst, not a step forward, so I stand by what I said. ;)

put the sim in the bin?

Thanks for the heads up. I like to try out new racing stuff.

This is a load of BS though.....The cars in the GT power and Retro pack have decent resolution textures, GTR2 doesn not, nor does it have very convincing wet weather.

Hmm... It looks good. I liked FVA, so I'll have to try this out.

Can't deny FVA was a good sim, but a very limited game, but AC has 15+ cars at launch, 10 or so laser scanned tracks and include modding.
There's some very strong goodwill with this game, and you never know what the modders will do, they might embrace this like we never expected.

Got a funny feeling there might be some Ferrari's as well.
FVA has ok GFX, but the cars looked decent enough in it, so AC with DX11 and much higher textures should look quite respectable.

It's crazy what a difference a good sim makes, atm I'm driving the Netkar's f1600 at Prato GP, trying to bring my times down, and it's huge fun thanks to the FFB and the physics, plus the steering precision is millimeter perfect.

On paper the f1600 is boring as batshit, but drive it with a G27 and it's hardcore.

I'm assuming the demo is not out yet? (or It might be my incompetence at searching).

Let us know when we can try the game out.

Tech demo is due out first, and whilst I could be wrong, I suspect that's actually the demo released early to netkar owners who can test and provide feedback.
I'll keep this thread updated.

Ferrari onboard now.
Car list is growing, and some additional tracks will be added via DLC+modders.
Assetto Corso could destroy rf2 and iracing.

good to see ferrari is on board. lets just hope ferrari doesn't nerf the cars like they did with some of their race versions in forza to hide performance numbers from their competitors.

30-35 cars on day one, with more cars and tracks via DLC+modders.
This game has so much potential to be no1 it's not funny.

Wake me up when I can get a Gran Turismo or Forza on the PC... until then...

ZZZZZZzzzzzz

LOL, enjoy your daydreams my friend.
Assetto Corso is a racing simulator, a racing simulator takes time to develop the QUALITY of physics and FFB that race sim fans expect, as such, there's NEVER going to be a proper sim that has hundreds of cars, as there's only a handful of people in the world who have the knowledge of how to hand build a convincing sim car.

The value of a race sim is the combo of precision and accuracy, as such, it feels like you're driving the real thing vs some computer assisted digital object{like F1 2012/Shift etc}.

Also, race sims come alive with a decent wheel and pedal set{a G27 qualifies, but one can spend more and get more}, so whilst you can play sims with KB/gamepad, it's not recommended as you're missing out on the FFB and the precision of the wheel and pedal package.

AC is DX11 only, and is aimed at sim fans, but it will include driver aids, so new drivers can certainly play this game, however, unlike in Forza etc, one needs to learn how to drive a race car otherwise you'll be slow and wayward......that's the bad news, good news is it's not that hard to apply race driving technique and a way you go!!!!

Because of the quality pf physics and FFB in Netkar pro{same developer} even slow boring cars are fun to drive as you feel like you're actually driving a real car to some degree, that said, AC is loaded with powerful cars, well all sorts actually, as there could be as many as 50-60 worthy cars 6-12 months after release.

Sim players also tend to keep their sims for yrs{as there's a constant reward for driving them}, so the lifespan of this game could be 3-4yrs.

GT5/forza won't teach you how to drive, so use google, and once you've applied that knowledge, you'll start to appreciate how precise a race sim is, and it should motivate you to get a decent steering wheel{G27 great place to start}.

I could justify my next PC build just on account of Assetto Corso, so if the PC costs $1500, that's what I'll spend, and I'll be able to play AC for years....that said, the dev's mention PC requirements aren't that steep.

Seems like it will have really good physics. Very interested.

And FFB, so I hope you have/get a G27 or better:D
That said, FFB's been good since GTR EVO 2008, and it's better with a high torque wheel like T500/CSRe etc, but even a G27 will give you a upper body workout.

Whilst I could be wrong, I think AC is going to exceed my expectations....here's why...

1....car list.....30+ cars on day one+ DLC+ modders and includes 5 Ferrari's.
The driving model should be exceptional as Kunos developed both Netkar pro and Ferrari Virtual Academy, and the youtube footage shows an excellent drift model and tense FFB effects.

2....Laser scanned tracks+DLC+modders.
With the amount of cars and tracks{ a good number for a proper sim}, longterm value is guaranteed, in fact, the goodwill from the punters and modders at Racedepartment strongly suggest this will have an active MP and mod content, but footage also shows some impressive AI, so SP could be at it's peak with this title.

3....GFX.......realistically, the first proper sim built from the ground up to have DX11 GFX.....so modders can focus on car and track content instead of having to build HD textures etc.

4....MP should be technically good and active, but of course, if AI is effective, then MP could be of secondary concern to some, but either way, I suspect decent sales which will help with online player numbers.

5.....Kunos and Aris{developers} post at Racedepartment and on Fbook, and they sound like passionate sim makers rather than corporate types, so one would hope that the overall game is satisfying beyond the driving, and as it's a PC exclusive, expect a high degree of precision and customization.

6....I doubt the total cost of the game will exceed $100 including DLC, bare in mind if this game kicksass, I'll be driving it for years, so the value to cost factor is very favourable.

Hello there! Finally, the work on version 1.0.0 of the Assetto Corsa Technology Preview is in progress. Therefore, soon, we'll see how the Assetto Corsa engine and GUI run on thousands of PCs. As the current development build seems to be stable and smooth on different configurations in beta testing, we are cautiously optimistic. The Assetto Corsa engine already runs all day long on dozens of professional simulators all around the world without issues; but gamers are a special breed, you know.

In the absence of any serious issues, we may be able to close off a public build within a short time period. And soon we will be in a position to also announce the minimum hardware requirements you will need to run Assetto Corsa.

We thank you all for your patience, we know you are looking forward to trying this build on your own PCs, but you cannot believe how many small details need to be addressed when releasing a build featuring only one car and one track.

Anyway, we would like to thank you profusely for your patience. We have a little surprise for you all: Following your suggestions, instead of using the 500 Abarth, that will be added in a future demo car list, a guest-star car will be included in this Tech Preview. We are confident that you will appreciate it; the car manufacturers in question have already sent us their approval to include it in this upcoming benchmark. It is a perfect match for the Magione racing circuit, a lightweight sportscar perfectly suited to the Autodromo Dell’Umbria’s switchbacks. We aim to offer you an enjoyable challenge, even if the Tech Preview is just a benchmark, and is not to be considered a full demo of the Assetto Corsa racing game.

I'm excited! I really hope they have Wheel compatibility in the Tech Preview.

youtube processing is slower then I remembered..

I'm anxious to see your video. Especially since you mention it's a video of you testing out the physics.

Yeah, I basically just kind of drive around silly like, not really best line or anything. Hard braking, soft braking, braking into corners, tires off track. That kind of stuff. I also go through options for screen layout and replay cameras. None of this with talking or anything, just straight up screen capture.

Youtube processing is really slow for some reason. It's at 102 Minutes remaining currently.

-edit-
Fully processed now.

Looks good!

Having a camera viewport is not going to help me drive better, I'll just end up drifting so I can see how my car looks sideways! :D

I did end up buying a netkar pro license to get an activation code. But I haven't got around to testing it yet.

Oh, that's actually just an overlay of the replay I did, so you can have another view other than the cockpit. Also, if you watch the car view, you'll see that it has frequent pauses, I'm not sure what that's about. It was in the first build too. Made syncing the action to the cockpit view really hard, which is why it's off.

: )

Owned.

After doing quite a few laps in the tech preview. This is now my favorite PC racer. I can't wait for the final product.

Been following this game for along time now. I've never really played diehard race Sims but this may be my introduction to the genre.
