Win 7 rebooting during start-up

What reason would there be for Win 7 64x switching the PC off during boot up (showing the start screen)?

I added an additional 16gig ram (now a total of 24gig) to the system. It boots fine in safe mode and reports 24gig under control panel --> system. The "dos" based windows memory test reports no errors with the memory.

It's odd that it boots in safe mode but not normal windows boot. Launching operating system repair also causes the PC to switch off (and then automatically reboot).

This is on a XMG P511 laptop based off a MSI barebones kit.

Nevermind. Appears one of the 8gig sticks I put in is dead. I thought it was something deeper since the machine managed to boot into safe mode. I guess safe mode somehow doesn't utilise all of the RAM during start-up the way a normal boot does.
