27" IPS 2560x1440 monitor~90hz <$400 FS

According to users at 120hz.net they say to use a calibration tool for the color settings? They linked a spyder 4 around $120. Is the color really that off we these monitors?

Some people need accurate colors due to their line of work. Most of us seem to be perfectly happy without doing any calibration.

ordered from red-cap Saturday and got my tracking # yesterday. Does it normally take a couple of days to show up ? its blank on ebays and dhl's website

Plugged it in and that's it.

Is the glare on the screen bad with your shimian lite? How well does it do for darker games? Thanks for answering all my ridiculous questions. I just want to make sure I know exactly what I am buying; I really appreciate your help along with all the others.

I think mine took about one business day to show up.

The glare isn't bad but this really depends on your lighting.

Did you do any calibration at all or was it fine you first plugged it in?
The Catleaps and Shimians were tested using high end equipment and shown to be calibrated better than a human eye could do it (semi-calibrated?). The Catleap for instance was close to 6500k, 2.2 gamma, and actually had the advertised contrast. There was a tiny touch of extra red in the results.

But the default calibration can be thrown off if they've upgraded the internal videoboard revision, which has happened already, so i don't know if the above findings still stand.

Also, you really can't judge a calibration by monitor pictures that you see posted online, people's camera colors can be off, and pictures are often compressed upon upload, so the previous concerns about green tinted pictures may be for nothing.

Have you guys heard about the 120Hz Catleaps that might be available sometime this month fro $459? I read about it on another board. I think I'll wait to pick that one up.

We know all about www.120hz.net as their board operator is a member here as well. But thanks for the heads up anyway though.

at least yours is in the country, mine is still in the outskirts of seoul

Mine just got hooked up. I didnt expect for it to seem larger than my 26. The stand leaves a lot to be desired but I havent seeen any obvious dead or stuck pixels so I guess its all good.

Which one did you purchase and from whom?

To the people who had the monitor shipped by red-cap on ebay from dhl express. How long it take to receive it and to what state it ship to ?

I ordered Sunday and recieved Wednesday. WA state.

I just got through " inspecting" the monitor. I cant seem to find any dead or stuck pixel. I thought there was excessive backlight bleeding but theres hardly any form a normal viewing angle. I was messing around and flexed the the bezel a little and it actually got rid of most of it. It also seems to have no issues with my p67 and displays my bios just fine.

I feel as good about this monitor as I did back when we all got those Soyos. Im pretty happy and Im not even sure if Ill get my doublesight fixed.

That flexing the bezel trick can work like a charm for certain types of backlight bleed.

I had moderately low backlight bleed in the lower right corner, flexing the bezel carefully corrected it to the point where i can now claim to have "even backlighting".

And keeping the backlight at 10 clicks from the bottom helped it even more, and seemed to have improved my blacks a smidge, and those black bars in certain aspect-ratio movies look pretty good for an IPS.

I just got mine, its a good monitor, but yea, lots of blooming on bottom left and right corners. There is some on the top too, its only noticeable on dark images, Reducing the brightness helps a little. If anyone finds a fix or knows of something to make it better, that would be cool

Clean setup, badass screen Tyler!

Wow, apparently you can even do 120Hz with minor issues such as the hardware scaler (have to disable HW acceleration for flash player)

2560 x 1440 @ 120Hz, not bad.

Is is possible to run the IPSMS at full resolution over HDMI? Not for gaming but for document work and some video watching.

So just to make absolute sure.... On the bare Shimian models you can not run past 60hz, correct? Just got a gtx 690 and like this monitor a lot... Bt I still like the motion on the 120hz 23" Samsung s23a750d better

Correct--without the original PCB that allowed it, you're stuck at 60Hz. (There are random reports of being able to hit 67Hz, but realistically I wouldn't expect it.)

I definitely can't go over 60hz with my two Shimians.

No, not generally. It's possible to "overclock" single link DVI and get 2560x1440, but this ability varies by video card (it requires increasing the pixel clock) so it's not something you should count on. It's also a really annoying, painstaking tweaking process to get all the timings right in software like PowerStrip to make it work correctly. I don't even recommend trying.

HDMI 1.3 does allow for higher pixel clocks natively, but I don't believe most video cards natively support it yet -- they don't allow pixel clocks high enough. You're also still fighting the monitor, which is looking for a dual link connection.

It will work, but probably not at native resolution.

Ugh, I've been sitting on this for months but I can't pull the trigger. I can't decide whether to get a Catleap or a Shimian and I don't really think I need 27". Are the 23" models any good?

Get the catleap if you plan to attempt over 60hz and go 27" you will not regret it!

do they've wall mounts as i'm aware some of them didn't had them????

want to make sure if they came up with new once with wall mount option.

I searched this thread but couldn't find if this monitor has HDCP. Do these monitors scale correctly if I use an HDMI -> DVI cord to connect my PS3?

I don't know about HDCP but if you want to plug in your PS3 you'll need the "MULTI" version that actually has HDMI (I think they're like $400). The one with DL-DVI only has no scaler and needs a dual link DVI connection.
