Day Z - experiences and Gameplay videos

definitely true. I was getting pretty lucky on first character after I had been watching some streams and stuff so I kinda knew what to do/expect. Had found an AK-74 and 3 mags in a deer stand after getting a ton of food/canteen/cokes. I wasn't near any major town with a hospital yet though so I had failed to find any morphine - boy that was a mistake. I went up to Rog Por I think it's called, one of the castle ruins to check it out before heading into Elektro or whatever to try and find matches/meds/map/etc. Ended up losing my footing going up the internal stairs in the main tower and fell one floor down... broke my legs and passed out. Woke up and bandaged but had to commit suicide to end the pain and suffering.

Tried to make it back to salvage the gear, but it was gone.

I'm thinking I'm the only one that laughed at the "broke my legs and passed out" part.

ok so don't shoot at a zombie in a town i found a ak74 whit 90 rounds in a dear stand so i went to a town as i was starving and out of wate rwent in to a hut thing and started looting and a zombie saw me and ran in to the hut thing that only had 1 door so i killed it and then tried to run nope i killed 12 zombies before ruining out of ammo and getting killed

good god man, scale back on the Red Bull

12 zombies with 90 rounds? You must be a terrible shot. :D

QTFT, read the wiki Tunatime. Rifles=1 shot, 1 zombie kill

I think bear traps are a cool idea. It'd be really neat to be able to set up Claymores and tripwires in the forest or something, around your camp.

bear traps are better then barbed wire... people just block off my favorite buildings, there should be wire cutters or something to break them

I think people already established that you can disassemble barbed wire with a toolbox.

Confused about what? Toolboxes allow you to remove barbed wire. There's really no other discussion there.

It is apparently sometimes difficult to do depending on placement but it's not impossible.

wait now I'm confused

I managed to remove barbed wire once with a tool box and it only took me about 3 minutes to get lined up just right to remove it. It was a momentous occasion.

And then I was shot.

Usually only takes me a few seconds to find the right spot to remove it. Here's hoping that they soon fix it so you can look at any part of it to remove it.

And thank goodness they fixed the removed barbed wire from coming back on server reset.

Just picked up Combined Operations off Steam to see what all the talk is about. Seems like it will be a ton of fun if I can talk a buddy into playing with me.

I searched every inch of the wire and there was only one specific spot that allowed me to activate it, and I had to be in mid-step to reach that spot. Barbed wire makes me mad.

agreed!

DO NOT swap outfits/clothes on 1.7.2

It apparently removes your entire inventory and will even delete items you put on the ground before you swap (Haven't been able to confirm the 2nd part, but people have said it does this)

Funny video of me and a buddy (from his POV, he recorded and uploaded) chasing a guy in Cherno that shot and killed a third buddy of ours. Followed him to the church where he apparently got shot by the guys inside. A shootout with those guys followed, with some rather hilarious results (ignore the one annoying kid constantly talking at the beginning, he was on our TS and off by himself at the time.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icZftyGpisY&feature=plcp

The 2nd guy must have had some serious lag / desync issues, took a lot of shots to even drop him, and then shooting him repeatedly while he was unconscious didn't kill him. He finally bled out. Part of the reason I like to stay on servers that kick for ping > 150ms.

Also picked up the game today. Seems like a lot of fun.

Raydrin ripbrood and I are on right now if anyone wants to hop on ts3 and join us

anybody got any kills with the melee weapons yet? I haven't played since they implemented them and there was a glitch where every time you dropped ammo it became an hatchet so I just waited for them to fix all the issues.

I want to kill a survivor with an axe that would be bad ass.

I had a great experience a few days ago. I started in the one of the western small towns. Generally my MO at that point is to grab an axe from the warehouse by the pier at the third town from the edge of the map, then head to the airfield. The first time I did this is was hiding behind two burnt out Humvies across the airfield from the flight control tower. Crouching just trying to figure out my next move....

I see this figure sprint across the open ground on the other side and start to climb the ladder on the side of the control tower. This was the second survivor I have ever seen. The first being someone on a quad flying by while I was running unarmed from two zombies down the road... Anyway, Axe in hand, Him with a rifle clearly on his back. Hmmm. Fuck it right?

I went for it. Once he was on top of the ladder I sprinted across the airfield and to the base of the building. Snuck to the ladder, climbed, saw he was crouched in the middle of the control tower... Facing the other way. He never saw it coming. I went from just an Ax to an AK Kobra with 5 clips, Cooked food, Pistol, tools...

Keep in mind this was the second survivor I had ever seen... I freaked out and ran high tailed it out of there and ran into the woods and logged off.

That was the start of an epic trek across the map to the NW airfield with my brother. We both racked up around 100 zombie kills that round. I was killed at the airfield, he avenged, then in the process of linking up again we ran into an AA vehicle which blew us up =/ what the hell.

Enjoy

Rocking an MP5SD w/ M9SD right now and an m240 with a few hundred rounds in my bag. I'm ready to rock tonight when you guys get back on.

No, just go to your local grocery store and get an Alice Pack until you find a Coyote Pack.

(from the Wiki)

Czech Vest Pouch 6
Coyote Patrol Pack 8
Assault Pack 12
Czech Backpack 16
ALICE Pack 20
Coyote Backpack 24

and this will tell you where you can find one:

i have a czech backpack ... but my guys is at 2000 blood.... damn it.

First time playing the game last night and I was severely confused.

For one when I got to the supermarket I started adding items to my pack and then somehow managed to put my Coyote Pack on the ground and couldn't pick it back up again no matter how many things I tried. Second, I found a Czech backpack in a building I was searching and again, for the life of me, I simply could not pick it up. How in the hell do you remove a pack and add another?

Another point of confusion was when I found a crobar and couldn't do a thing with it. I couldn't swing it to defend myself like you can with the hatchet. What's the point of the crobar? Also, at one point I found a double barrel shotgun and no matter how many items I removed from my pack, including a camping tent, I could not pick it up. Are there servers that do not allow for guns to even be used? If so, what do I need to look for in the description to avoid them entirely?

With that said I enjoyed the game very much and look forward to playing it more today.

Yeah, I already hit up the grocery store for an Alice Pack but the Assault Pack spawned in military loot spots so I thought maybe I was missing something.

When it comes to backpacks, loot piles that are under or near the backpack will interfere with your ability to pick up or interact with the backpack. You need to pick up anything close to it and drop it somewhere else. I also recommend that if you find a bigger backpack, to first drop your own backpack on the ground before trying to pick up the other one, because if you still have stuff in your old backpack you need, sometimes picking up the new one with the old one still equipped can cause the old one to drop to the ground under the floor of buildings and such. You accomplish this by bringing up the gear menu with G and finding the backpack in the list on the left (it's always at the bottom) and either double clicking on the name in the list, or clicking it once and then clicking the left arrow next to it.

If you pickup a crowbar, or equipping a hatchet for that matter, there may still be the 'bug' where you have to 'reload' them, since the way the Arma2 engine currently handles the melee weapons is treating them like a gun, which requires ammo. Also, if you have any type of throw-able item such as flares, chemlights, or trash items, you can cycle through all these by pressing F. If you're not careful, you can sometimes end up throwing a flare instead of firing your weapon because you had the wrong one selected.

Picking up guns shouldn't be much of a problem, unless there is still some issues from the 1.7.2 release. When you go to pick them up, it should put it right into your primary or secondary weapon slot, and automatically drop anything that was already equipped in that slot. There was an odd bug from 1.7.1.5 where if you had a melee weapon equipped, and picked up a gun, it would somehow have both weapons equipped at the same time, so you were able to cycle between shooting and hatcheting for instance.
