I've already been using this method. 95% of servers still won't let me connect. I managed to get into ONE working server over a three hour period, and about four minutes in it got hit by a mass-teleporting hacker. Fuck this day.
 
I've been trying something for the past week.

I haven't joined a server in the past week that has had more than 15 people in it and haven't seen 1 single hacker. They seem to only be targeting the larger servers full of people (to reek the most destruction I suppose)
 
me and DJ had a nice run tonight , we went to cherno hospital and some supermarket.

If you are new the biggest help I can say is avoid the cities. It will take you longer to find the gear you want/need but you will avoid getting gang banged by zombies and other players looking to demolish you. Also servers with high population will likely be filled with assholes, try to join something sub 20 players. Learn to survive on your own and figure out the game mechanics. Find people you can trust to play with on voice servers like teamspeak as this is super helpful to surviving. Even in a group of 3 I've been attacked by snipers more than once.

Cities are great on low population servers and, AFAIK, cities are the only places with blood bags and morphine. Once those are obtained, it is out to the north to raid small towns, villages, and airfields!

Blood bags and morphine are useful, blood only when you are not alone. When you have a hunting knife/hatchet, and matches though and are solo you can survive really well in the forest by yourself.

That's what I did on my first player and he lived a few hours but then a zombie hit broke his bone in the middle of nowhere and he didn't have any morphine. Then he was sent to the debug plains. He wasn't very lucky.
 
ok so don't shoot at a zombie in a town i found a ak74 whit 90 rounds in a dear stand so i went to a town as i was starving and out of wate rwent in to a hut thing and started looting and a zombie saw me and ran in to the hut thing that only had 1 door so i killed it and then tried to run nope i killed 12 zombies before ruining out of ammo and getting killed
 
I played for a few hours yesterday....trying to get the controls down before I attempt any population centers. I had to re-spawn a few times to get out of the debug hills. I am currently near Tulga and on a hill overlooking a factory crawling with Zs.

I am going to play tonight and be on the [H] TS server if anyone is on to help out a noob, then please give a holler or IM me.

Honestly Hurley, the biggest thing that will help you stay alive when you first start out alone is being stealthy. This means crawling around a lot. It might be slow and a little boring, but when you've got zombies all around you and you're slowly making your way through them to a building with loot, it's pretty intense actually.

I found Morphine in a deer stand once, but there is a very low chance of that happening.

If you need to stock up on morphine hit the roof of the hospital in elektrozavodsk. There's often 1-2 boxes with many medical supplies

This mod sounds crazy. Going to pick up the game when Steam has their sale. With the talk about cities...I have to ask how big is the map?
 
Was playing a bit earlier and FrozenLiquidity joined my game. We were planning on meeting up near Stary Sober but I happened to run into another guy in a ghilli suit, he had just made a camp fire and I came over a small hill and he saw me. He blended in quiet well with the trees but I saw him switch from the "tending to the fire" animation to the "bring up your weapon" animation and I fired first.


Got me some supplies out of that.


Then I ran like hell incase he had friends around.

There are hospitals in several of the major cities - the roof is exposed though. I'd recommend against going up there. Check the back, there's a box that can spawn at the bottom of the latter.

If you have a weapon (or preferably a hatchet) you can break the glass in the front of the hospital and there are several spawns for medical loot inside.

225 square kilos - a 15k by 15k square map

So about 9.3 miles, by 9.3 miless and about about 87 square miles :D

Good times last night until a sniper took out everyone except myself and Rip. Like Liquid said....don't get attached to anything in this game and it seems pretty safe to join a server with a low active player count. We didn't really run into any other players except someone who dc'ed after we spotted him.

Yeah, it was pretty crazy stuff! Had to have been two of them! One of them seemed to have the anti material sniper rifle - cause he was killing us in one shot - and I doubt he was managing to get headshots on moving targets at 400m.

Dunno how you guys managed to survive!
 
We all had good health. Just let our guards down being on a low pop server and 5 of us you thought they wouldn't mess with a group but that proves the point, be careful wherever you go. By the way zyonuf79 I was moving some more and got killed by another player possibly same guy. Now I already restarted and resupplied again. Going to play right now actually, TS3 anyone wants to play.

Could have been dont know where were but we were open field zagging. With a warehouse to our right. The person was shooting from treeline as we were going uphill.

Ah probably not then. Killed 3 people down at the dam with my CZ550 when they pulled up with a car and a truck, I was up across the water in the ridge line after just filling my water bottles and moving on. Got a GAZ out of that fight. On the way back to camp I came across some tents full of military weapons and got an AS50 and like 8 mags out of it, among other things which I put in the car. Then later I spotted some people moving through the forest way up north and killed 3 of them over the course of about 20 minutes. Amazing fights all evening, went really well for me.

Just curious here: why are you killing so many other players? Are these provoked kills?

The first group had vehicles, which I wanted. The second group was on the next ridge over from us, and it was sort of a kill them before they kill you situation.
 
Killed a guy the other day when we ran into each other somewhere up north. Was going to check out a deerstand when I saw a 'bush' doing the 'packing' animation at the bottom of the ladder. Got him in a few shots from my M4. Found out he had a Bizon SD & an M107 w/ 6 clips, NVGs, Rangefinder, GPS!

Then I lose it all to a glitch a few hours later when logging back into the server back near where our camp was, with a couple of my buddies. We apparently logged in right on top of a group that was checking out our tents, and I spawned in unconscious under a pine tree. Figured I would be safe since I was in a gillie suit and relatively hidden, but one of them shot me dead too a few moments later.

I don't get attached, merely annoyed that of the 6 times I've lost everything 5 of them have been due to bugs/glitches and 1 to a player

I don't count the several times zombies got me before I even had a weapon.

definitely true. I was getting pretty lucky on first character after I had been watching some streams and stuff so I kinda knew what to do/expect. Had found an AK-74 and 3 mags in a deer stand after getting a ton of food/canteen/cokes. I wasn't near any major town with a hospital yet though so I had failed to find any morphine - boy that was a mistake. I went up to Rog Por I think it's called, one of the castle ruins to check it out before heading into Elektro or whatever to try and find matches/meds/map/etc. Ended up losing my footing going up the internal stairs in the main tower and fell one floor down... broke my legs and passed out. Woke up and bandaged but had to commit suicide to end the pain and suffering.

Tried to make it back to salvage the gear, but it was gone.
