Many times! But not recently...not since the pump on a cheap case fan controller...(it probably would have worked...if I hadn't also attached a high amp fan to "judge the speed") .

I always like the "heeey, thats not right" moment before you realize whats happening and kill the power. :D
 
Yes, yes, different compounds burn different colors.

People didn't know this? :p
 
I saw a fireworks show couple nights ago where they have 2 or 3 fireworks that burst into the shape of a star surrounded by a circle.

I don't know if it was coincidence or by design but I had never seen it before and it was pretty darn neat.

Usually, by the time I've reacted and gotten to the power button, it's too late. The last time it happened, I was at work when a voltage regulator near the CPU on a Dell Optiplex start to glow bright orange-red and smoke. I just sat there looking at it for a few moments as the case filled with smoke and started getting blown around by the cooling fans before I was like, "Oh, that's kinda bad. I should do something to stop it from burning," and finally hit the surge supressor switch. At least it was covered under the Dell warranty and I'm guessing it was just faulty since there was nothing really wrong with the computer. It's the smell though...ugh electronics are awful when they go up in smoke.
 
Yes, yes that was a mixture of copper compounds, calcium salts, and strontium. You should definitely get that looked at and probably put some ice on it. XD
 
Only time I've ever heard strontium mentioned before was in the second Planet of the Apes movie, as the casing for the world-melting super-atomic bomb worshiped by the mutants. Yikes?

Yeah, it is a design. They arrange the "stars" which are the balls of powder inside the shell in a certain way so when they go off, it makes a certain shape. I got close to getting my class B license, but never got around to helping with any shoots. It is really neat stuff, at least I think :D.
