Haha!
These both sum up my issues perfectly. Good find.

We don't know if the next cycle succeeds. I don't know how you got that. We just know the cycle continues, but some race does find one of Liara's message boxes.

I just watched a video that shows the stargazer talking to the kid at the end of the credits of the refusal ending. It is a woman this time and she tells the kid that Shepard fought the war so they wouldn't have to and if it wasn't for him then they would not have peace right now. Makes it sound like they stopped the reapers.

I got refusal (by shooting the Catalyst, lol) and it's not a human parent and child. Between that and their dialogue I took the meaning to be that the next cycle defeated the reapers by learning about them early from Liara's beacon. In other words everyone else was dead. Also if you watch the scene right before the credits, it's Liara's hologram talking about how they lost the war with the reapers. Seems to indicate nothing is left of the civilizations from Shepard's cycle.

The stargazer says that they aren't threatened anymore or something like that, so it seems that at some point organics won, but I thought it was pretty clear that it wasn't necessarily the next cycle.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that shot at the Catalyst when given the three options. Thought it was humorous that he said, "Well, you've made your choice."

Nah, I didn't think it was that bad. The way I took it was that at one point, synthetics will turn on organics and they'll destroy each other so the Reapers come in and harvest these civilizations for themselves and assimilate them. I don't take it that they think they're "doing us a favor" but more like since we're gonna wipe ourselves out anyway when we lock horn with synthetics, the Reapers figure they might as well come in every 50,000 years or so and harvest all our technology and everything for themselves then let the cycle start over again. This means an endless supply of new civilizations basically.

I don't recall him saying anything different in the EC, and before he never said anything like that. And even if that is the next cycle, that doesn't mean that they've seen the Reaper threat or it's schedule had come and gone. In fact, they seem like they are prespace flight which the Reapers ignore.

It's different with the refusal ending. It is a woman talking not a guy.

go to about 8:30 for the new stargazer dialog.

Watched them all on youtube.. its clearly not worth attempting to replay in-game. As stated in this thread before: "a polished turd is still a turd". The endings aren't as patently OFFENSIVE as the originals, theres a few bones thrown to the fans, but overall the endings are still fundamentally disappointing. They completely lack the level of nuance or depth we were promised, choices over the course of the series have no bearing on the ultimate outcome and don't have any sense of closure for me.

ME1 was so good.. its just so disappointing to see the steady decline over the course of the series. I know a lot of people preferred ME2 for some of the extra polish and streamlining in the "game" aspect, but to me, in hindsight, the warning signs were already there with respect to the story. The human reaper should have been a warning sign... the beginning of the end in terms of ME3's storytelling credibility

I guess our philosophies are at odds then. Also, it's possible Synthesis isn't even against the will of the people. If the decision was a democratic one, maybe Synthesis, given the outcome, would be what people of the galaxy would choose?

You roleplay as Stalin, I guess.

This doesn't even sound like it's worth watching the videos. Utterly disappointed in this shit-fest.

I like the updated endings. Before I didn't like the ending, but I didn't slash my wrists over them. This makes them a little bit more enjoyable.

The real question is, how long we will have to wait before we got another epic action RPG saga like this, whether it's from BW or not.

Probably no less than 3 to 5 years.

Yes, because clearly everyone in the galaxy was clamoring for the opportunity to be cyborgs....

Its terrible that the options come down to 1) Genocide 2) Eugenics 3) Being Assimilated

My Shepard was supposed to be a badass who took on all odds, human, husk, reaper, and even political. I beat everything put before me and yet in the last 40 minutes the game tacks on a transhumanism theme instead of the spaceopera I had been playing for the last 2.5 games.

Actually, if it had been handled better and layered in the delivery, those 3 (+1) outcomes wouldn't be terrible in an RPG. The problem is that the outcomes are tied to an illogical and retconned story. A 100% happy ending in an RPG doesn't usually sit well with me. That's not how things work. However, all endings should be accounted for during the writing of the story, not tacked on at the end by people who didn't even storyboard this shit.

CDPRed is doing a Cyberpunk RPG. Expect better writing, but hopefully they don't go the "epic heroz" way that people seem to enjoy these days.

CD Projekt RED's Cyberpunk RPG may replace my need for an awesome sci-fi experience. BioWare has fallen off of the map & into oblivion.

If Witcher 2 is anything to go by the first half will probably be good, but then fall flat in the end.

So a Kotaku editor posted his thoughts about the "not needed" EC......

http://kotaku.com/5921535/i-really-didnt-need-those-new-mass-effect-3--endings

And "Tony Danza" posted his comment which I will post here because it made me laugh out loud here at work and almost applaud.....

"Look at how the expansion's extra dialogue also chips away at the shock, wonderment and awe of encountering the Catalyst. Before I felt like I was meeting a god. Now, I'm meeting a construct, built somewhere by someone at some time. It's the same thing but all the explaining changes the context, making it more knowable and less thrilling."

That's good! What the fuck man? That's good! The Catalyst ISN'T a god, he's a fucking machine. He's an AI, he isn't a god. He seems to think he's a god but he's no more a god than you or me.

It's the duty of an author to provide ample content in the story for the readers to decipher everything. An author does not need to explain everything, indeed the best one's don't, but an author DOES need to fill in and prevent plot holes, and, again, provide the necessary information so that an astute reader can understand it.

That didn't happen with ME3. You say you didn't need to see Shepards parting with Liara. Ok, fine, but that was a fucking plothole in the story. We go from "3 of us running into a laser" to "1 of us alive and the other two on a ship flying away". What the fuck are we supposed to think? That Joker flew down to the planet, picked them up, but left Shepard lying there half dead? Something entirely out of character for him?

"I had an ending that felt like its creators respected my intelligence enough to trust me to fill in the blanks."

Oh fuck you. Fuck you for even implying this had jack shit to do with intelligence. How fucking dare you. Where the fuck do you get off? If this had anything to do with fucking intelligence you'd recognize horrible fucking writing for the shit it is. You want to talk about intelligence let's talk about how Bioware constantly falls on tropes and cliche's, how they throw diversity into their work and make the characters ABOUT their diversity and not about something unique. Let's talk about how the usage of Earth was a blatant emotional ploy because Bioware is too incompetent to make us care enough about a foreign world.

You don't get to talk about Bioware being a good writer and then claim the intellectual card. No fucking way in hell. You leave that card at the door the moment you praise the plothole filled shitfest that Bioware released.

You know what? I'm glad YOU enjoyed the original ending. Good for you Evan, but I want to point something out:

On Kotaku's poll the other day asking what we wanted from the Extended Cut, only 11% of people said they either 'Didn't care about it' or they were 'Fine with the original'. 11% out of over 7000 votes were content with the original ME3 ending.

That is NOT good writing. That is NOT a quality job on Bioware's part. That is NOT an acceptable product to be released to the product at a $60 pricetag. I am, quite frankly, appalled and stunned by those numbers, because Luke was the only member of the major video game sites to come out and say "The endings to ME3 were bad." Every other outlet, including Kotaku, defended Bioware's ending. Every other outlet condemned the Retake movement.

The Boss just owned that entire nonsense article by Failtaku. That article is almost pandering to Bioware in the saddest way , you can't honestly tell me any of ME3's endings were satisfying compared to what could have been done with an indoctrination story line. I mean the fans actually came up with a HUGELY more impressive ending to the ME series than an entire team of paid writers ..

If only there were mod tools for ME3 , someone could fix this tripe.

That's how said Bioware has become.

Well I've finally watched the endings and the new scenes and I think I'm OK with them. I liked the extra goodbye with Liara and hope they do that with whoever your love interest is cause I'm always bangin' Tali and her goodbye scene was kinda flat. I like the extra info you get with the Catalyst. Doesn't answer all questions but gives me enough I can figure the rest out.

As for the endings themselves, they're still not ideal or what I would've necessarily done but if those 3 choices are it then I think they did a good enough job in showing what each one meant for everybody else and how they played out.

Like everybody else I am disappointed that your prior decisions still have little effect and it doesn't seem that you need to worry about maxing out your EMS which sucks.

But in the end, I'm good with it. I still think the whole game is superbly done and the series as a whole is the best in gaming history. The ending isn't perfect but its good enough.

And I know its not popular but I gotta give cred to BioWare for putting the EC out. Gamer's demands are almost always ignored by developers and for them to go back and do this is pretty cool in my book. They could've easily told us to go fornicate ourselves but didn't and we got a substantially better ending and extra content out of it so I'm still a fan of BioWare.

They had no choice but to put it out. Bioware keeps telling everyone that they "care" and that they give a shit about the gaming community. It wasn't done for our satisfaction it was done for good PR. Now they will use this as an example in the future of how they "care".

They also didn't keep the promise of the game premise at all , you do not get to influence the out come greatly. You get to make small choices that are truly insignificant to the result in pre-determined endings that actually follow a percentage. The only "choice" you get depends on your "war" rating basically. Even if you argue the choice factor it doesn't change that some of the endings are just absurd and make little sense and are poorly explained. In fact much of what happens in the final hour of the game is highly questionable.

You know honestly now that I think about it , the Kotaku editor is right , they didn't have to do an EC .. because it served nothing and took a sad situation and made it even sadder. ME was a fun experience but a huge let down at the end and the EC was like taking a fresh shit on a rotting cake.

Eh, to each their own. I'm just trying to keep a positive outlook on future RPGs. Most released lately have been a bit rough around the edges or complete crap.

Well don't get me wrong. I did enjoy the Witcher 2. I was just disappointed by the 3rd act.

If they cared they wouldn't have released shit.

Why would anyone buy another Bioware game after Dragon Age 2, TOR, and the way this worked out?

Because we all remember when Bioware wasn't so shitty and we have buried hope that they can "come back".

I'll continue to keep an eye on Bioware but the next game they release isn't going to be a day one buy for me anymore.

Almost 0 people are left over from the Baldur's Gate/BG2 days. It's a completely different studio with a completely different focus.

Interesting. I wonder if that DLC content occurs before the ending or after?

If it's up the standards of the ME2 DLC, then I'll definitely give it a go.

If it's "up" to the standards of the Dragon Age DLC, then I'll pass.

If it's like "Lair of the Shadow Broker", it should do quite well.

lol @ Danza...

Another sucker who thought the accumulated actions of 3 games were going to give him a personally unique ending tailored specifically for him, all explained and laid-out for him. He'll cry all the way until his next EA Bioware purchase.

Like the rest of you ME3 game ending whiners.

No Earth in the ending? Are you kidding me? Wasn't the whole driving force of this drama that final show-down was going to be on Earth? Or would it have been completely kick-ass if we fought the last battle on the planet of blue lesbians? The whole series centered on Earth and the newness of human involvement in a galactic community...but the blue lesbians with the Lisa Simpson hairdos should have the final honor.

Should have just had Sheppard kill a master control big boss reaper at the end and save the universe and live happily ever after...everybody would be fapping over that ending.
